I disagree with a lot of OP's post but I want to highlight one thing. You said that priest needs a defence against combo decks. I think that is ridiculous. Yes priest loses to combo a lot but that's because combo is made to beat control. Saying Priest needs a way to beat combo decks is saying rock sucks because it has no defence against paper.
"Can often drag out games" lol what? You have a messed up concept of "often." Priests no longer have early game (resilient) taunts. So yes, if you somehow manage to survive beyond turn 6, you might have a shot at hitting your win condition. Otherwise, what - you throw out a Corrupted Healbot on turn 5 and your opponent just ignores it and goes face for 7 more damage?
edit: While I'm on the subject, what do you guys think about Cyclopian Horror?
I think the Cyclopian Horror is a very good tech card against flood decks like Zoo. Silence is pretty much a thing of the past, and I never have any of my minions silenced since the WOG was released
Priest players who can't deal with aggro seem to be the whiniest scrubs of them all.
Priests weakness is the lack of finishing power against other control and combo decks. As long as the control opponent effectively plays around entomb, priest has no way to prevent their win condition from manifesting absent perfect psychic plays and extreme heart of the cards. The problem is that if priest is given aproactive win condition, it's going to be unstoppable when paired with all the efficient removal and survivability priest has.
People can't bitch about priests early tempo in a vacuum, because when you look at their tools as a whole, it's clear that priest is not designed to be tempo class.
and i think ppl are underating the new 2 cost card thats an auchenai soulrpiest for a turn. i think this will be ran much much more in a few months.i dont think it will be an auto 2 of, but in the "heal priest" shell, it seems incorrect to not run at least 1.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH and you get to spam wow at all these shitters in this game :D
Priest is good, the reason fewer people play it is because it's ot the easiest class to play, but when dragon priest and secret pal were FOTM you could see a lot of priest on the ladder because it countered secret pal, the loss of lightbomb is not that bad.
Priest is easily one of the toughest classes to play, as even their minion-centric decks (hello N'Zoth Priest) are heavy control decks centered around careful trading and removal. Priest is also one of the slowest decks, having no real way of rushing down a player without going past turn 10 first. Because of these two things, it is not very popular amongst the masses, and it is not very well represented on the ladder.
However, it has consistently been one of the top classes for quite a while now, and at the moment is potentially stronger than ever.
And as Poodris said up above, aggro is not the real problem for Priest. Shadow Word: Horror, Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing, and Holy Nova mean you have all types of tools to stop Aggro dead in it's tracks before the t5 or t6 kill. And once you have them stalled, barring some amazing draws, they aren't going to be able to get that killing blow. Control gets to be the bigger problem, assuming of course that the opponent has succesfully figured out your deck, and played carefully around your Entombs and Shadow Word: Deaths. Which still means that even against it';s weakness, it requires skill and careful play to beat.
Or luck, because this Hearthstone, and luck can always win out.

to be fair holy nova and most aoe in general is over costed. if they made things like 2 mana concecrate 2 mana holy nova(like they should be imo) then we could use aoe as effective counter.

You think that kill 3 enemy minions, do 2 damage to enemy hero and heal 2 toall your characters is worth 2 mana?!

i meant to say 3 mana, but yes i do think 3 mana is fair for that, MAYBE 4. all i know is 5 mana is way too slow for this game.
Lol such a joke thread. Priest is strong now with control, n'zoth, and dragon priest decks being the best archetypes. People don't ladder with priest as games take too long and people like fast games while laddering hence why zoo and aggro decks are abundant. Once(if ever) u reach legend or rank 1-5, u will see a lot of priests, as for tournaments...check again as they show up quite a bit. Just because u are awful with priest does not mean they aren't viable in he current meta...far from it.
Aggro/Midrange's win condition is for control decks to not draw removal, which they will not at least 50% if not more. Great you have a single removal spell? I have minions on every turn. You have Auch + Circle? I have two 2-drops and a 1-drop to follow it up, hope you have more circles lol.
It's a good deck if it draws well. Most of the time it won't, and it's not strong. I understand tempostorm isn't always accurate, but they have control priest at tier 4 and nzoth priest at tier 2. Paladin is doing both of these archetypes far better, and in cases, both archetypes simultaneously better than priest doing them individually.

What were you expecting? You're talking about the creators of Flamewreathed Faceless :D

Earth Shock?
Priest involves more planning than other straightforward pew pew classes imo

Trying Real Hard To Keep Hunter Relevant
Priests and their thieving ways need to be completely removed from the game.
There is nothing fun or enjoyable in playing against a thief, er I mean, a priest.

Kaladin's RoS Set Review
Join me at Out of Cards!
Yeah, shadow word horror is such a great card and holy nova is op. nerf! Kappa
I also rekt aggro using power word tentacles. And the lost of deathlord is not a problem. And who cares about zombie chow.
nzoth priest tier 2? this deck is only good against slow decks lol
