Let me start off by saying I am new to Hearthstone so the whole point of this post is to A. See if a build like this works well in Hearthstone and B. If it does work what cards should I be working towards/remove. Since I just started playing I obviously only have access to so many cards. I've opened about 14 expert packs and have had pretty bad luck with my pulls. I haven't bothered playing and ranked matches yet but it seems to work well in non-ranked matches. (Maybe I'm just getting paired up with people who have poorly constructed decks.)
Please go easy on me. This is my first time constructing a deck. I normally have friends who are vets to the card games help me out when I build a deck but I don't know anyone else who has received a hearthstone beta invite so I am going to rely on the community to help me out.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.
I would start out by taking out all the taunts you have in your deck. For constructed they're not very mana efficient. I would go with Sejin Shield Masta best taunt for the cost. I don't really like the mage because It doesn't really interest me (not my play style) but she's real good.
You can always look to put in water elemental good card for stopping those weapon decks (rogue/warrior, also druid but). I would recommend looking at blizzard another decent aoe/board clear and since you're running SP can be just as effective as flamestrike it can also delay your opponents attacks for a turn if anything else. Cone of cold I'm on the fence but it's not my favorite so that's up to you again it's another delay card. If you can get your hands on Archmage Antonidas I would say put that in your deck if you want to go more spell heavy.
If you want to go for more damage you can also look at Pyroblast it's great for finishing games and does amazing damage and with the spell power boost it's crazy. I would say also run 2 Arcane Intellect it's great for the cost. This game is a lot about having card advantage and it looks like you only have one other source for that. Ice Barrier is always safe to run as well depending on how many you want ot run if you do, it's an extra 16 hp.
Like I said I'm probably not going to play a mage but I've seen several mages play so just giving my 2 cents. Good luck on the deck though : )
First off, lets address the general aspect of the deck. This is your curve:
I personally feel this to be a bit on the lower side, and a bit top heavy. You probably want more mid-game because that's where the crux of the gameplay is to transition into late game for your heavy spells. Shave a bit off the early and the late. There also needs to be consistency in your deck, try to double up on the useful cards and taunts to draw them more often.
First, we can focus on these two cards:Lord of the Arena and Booty Bay Bodyguard Generally, you want minions with high health over minions with bigger life. Think of this as your actual front line if you're playing an MMO, tanky. You want Sen'jin Shieldmasta, Fen Creeper for good taunters. I find Ironfur Grizzly a great card in its own right for starting decks.
Now, we address low cost cards: Goldshire Footman and Frostwolf Grunt Opening taunts are never a particularly good idea, as a mage, you have your hero power for board control and playing better 2 drop minions such as Novice Engineer and River Crocolisk will help you get past the opening stage of the game with an advantage. If you coin out either one of those, you give yourself a presence and you force your opponent to waste more to deal with it. Acidic Swamp Ooze is another that isn't bad to have
Finally, to address your spells, just one Ice Lance that I feel looks out of place, I'm not really suggesting anything, just pointing out that you should remove it if it isn't useful because you don't have the supporting cards like Blizzard and Cone of Cold. The rest seem perfectly fine to me.
Four cards I'd like to recommend: Gurubashi Berserker: Very fun card for mage, you can sack it into polymorphed things, you can ping it yourself, overall a good threat. Ogre Magi: A bit beefier spell power for all your needs Water Elemental: One of the best minions in the game, you want it. Shuts down weapons, high health, cheap at 4 mana. Mana Wyrm: This card is an amazing early play for Mage and leads into great trades
That's about it, I tried to keep it to basic cards as best I could. Good on you for pulling two Azure Drakes though, all around solid card. I'm not always on forums but feel free to drop me a message in game: Aishi#1473

Ha dang it I forgot all about Ogre Magi. I was trying to think and I knew there was anotthe good SP creature but couldn't remember. Also where can you get the mana curve chart for the decks? Can you get them here on the website and I just keep over looking it?
Good start, lose Ice Lance for arcane intelect as the previous poster said, card advantage is paramount in this game....not to mention even more of a staple for the Mage deck. Drop the Booty bay body guard and Ironfur Grizzly for Senjin Shieldmastas, the reason for this is due to the effects you get for resource cost, all around better taunts and damage dealing for a better cost. Archmages don't do enough for what they cost I would drop those as well, personally I would replace them with Cone of Cold. Why cone of cold over say Blizzard? 2 reasons Blizzard costs to much and all you really get is 1 more damage and secondly if you're playing your deck right there should almost never ever be more than 3 minions out on the board. Lastly I would lose the Darkscale Healer and Lord of the Arena in lieu of either Stormwind Champions or you can veer on the side of safety and just go with 2 Lords of the Arena.
Lastly my parting thoughts to complete this deck, I would grab some Pyroblasts ASAP for that extra cheeseing power maybe pop this in place of the Azure Drakes, and if you evere can manage getting a Ysera go freaking nuts, her Dream cards are insanely good for a mage. I mean seriously it gives you insane control of the game as soon as it comes out and granted you protect her for 1-2 turns she will pretty much last for a full 5 turns...I mean the cards are just great.
Dream Yay you're a rogue now, Nightmare a great game closer card, Ysera Awakens Stupidly cheap board clear keep in mind however it does damage you as well, Emerald DrakeLaughing Sister 2 cards alone that will survive your board clear to end the game. These are all cards you get from Ysera every single turn she remains alive!
Thank you everyone for the amazing advice. It is extremely insightful and a lot of help. I went through all the cards I have and could craft at the moment and this is what I am currently running. Should I sub any of these out for some water elementals ? Suggestions and/or comments would be appreciated.

I mean seriously,
@Bromo: I get it straight from the game, I didn't so much replicate OP's deck as I just shoved in other cards equal in Mana.
