Why does nobody ever put what ranks they played to get these huge win percentages?
I think I am like 5-2 right now against trap hunters using Kolento's Mid range hunter at rank 3-4. Hunter Traps are too easy to play around and getting random ones off of the scientist just isn't that great... This is basically the hunter deck I was playing last week and got stuck at rank 7 with except has scientist instead of more removal... doesn't seem worth it to me.
I went from rank 13 to rank 8 in the play session described in the post.
And traps aren't always that easy to play around, especially if you don't have charge minions or weapons. And the random aspect isn't that terrible. There are only two types of secret in the deck. So it's a 50/50. I never felt I lost any game due to Mad Scientist pulling the wrong trap. The deck has a bunch of other DPS tools.
Does Mad scientist pull a secret from your deck and put it into play, or does it simply put a secret into play (from your deck), without actually pulling it?
It removes the secret from your deck. If you have no secrets left in your deck, then the Mad Scientist deathrattle will do nothing.
After playing all those games, are you comfortable saying that it's Mad Scientist that's made the difference? Does getting the trap for free outweigh the fact that you no longer get to play them situationally? I haven't played a lot of Hunter, but it's always seemed like it's an important piece to be able to judge just how long to wait before laying down an explosive trap against zoo, or playing freezing trap it bounces something more than a Squire.
Knowing when to play a secret becomes knowing when to play Mad Scientist, since he becomes your secret engine. And he does make a difference, because when he dies that two mana you don't have to spend, and no worries about having not drawn a secret.
Not sure how your record vs Warriors is so good.. been playing control warrior a lot recently and it seems to be dominating the current versions of hunter.. Is houndmaster that good in this deck?
Any taunt on the field is useful, I find. And if you can control the opponent's board around a particular minion, you can usually decide what is going to get freeze trapped.
Why does nobody ever put what ranks they played to get these huge win percentages?
I've been wondering the same. Just today watched my friend climb from rank 13 to 8 with a huge streak and a winrate of 75% with this deck, BUT got stuck there instantly. Rank does indeed make a huge difference what deck to play and what winrates you're getting, so these winrate topics that don't mention rank or are below 5 should be taken with a grain of salt. Not bashing this deck, just a general notion.
You're right, I should have mentioned the ranks at which I played (which I have now done in post #26). I will also say that most of my 6 losses happened at ranks 9 and 8. So it will get tougher going forward. I do think I can probably get to rank 6 comfortably.
I found this deck to be gorgeously awful. I did not find that flare did remotely anything in 70% of my games beside cycle. The whole point of this card is to counter all the meta hunters right?? Guess what, most hunters run a one of secret, if that at all. Well, the midrange ones at least. Terrible meta call. I wanted this card to be a tracking in literally all of my games, even when the magical moment came that my opponent did play a secret.
What really confuses me is why Reynad thinks removing 2 of the best cards in the entire hunter deck was a remotely good idea. Tracking is literally a one mana tutor. And when it's not, those top 3 cards that WEREN'T answers were going to bone you anyways. That's the power of tracking.
The average hunter deck plays 12-14 beasts. 10 is unacceptable when 8 of your cards in your deck are based around synergy/combos. The number crunch just doesn't work. I've had Houndmasters sitting in my hand for ages and Kill Commands just waiting for that bless my life topdeck for a beast tag.
This deck just throws up when it sees a heavy taunt. Like what the hell do you do vs a Sludge Belcher. That card has wrecked this deck so many times in my opinion. Pffft. There's no hard counter to this deck like there's no hard counter to Zoo? A sticky taunt is literally all you need to wreck this deck.
BUT REALLY BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION. WHERE IS TRACKING. This deck NEEDS Eaglehorn Bow to function and if you're trying to mull for that card there's a good chance you're doing something wrong.
Are you just trolling or is Reynad trolling? The deck gets destroyed by anything rank 5 or above.
I played against someone who had this deck on ladder earlier, it was super easy to beat with freeze mage. Granted there are very few freeze mages in the meta right now. Also, they seemed to run 2 Tracking over Flares, which was helpful for me. Mad Scientist is a fun addition to the mage arsenal also.
Yep, and you might be one of the last freeze mages out there. Just shows how awful this deck is, as hunters wreck city all over both handlocks and freeze mages normally. It's why a lot of builds run tracking and a one of deadly shot and flare. They're such good tutor targets which can be binned when not necessary.
Went from rank 4 to legend in a few hours, one afternoon bascially. Win rate was 80%. The majority of matches were mirror matches which obviously the best way to win was mulligan for flare. Basically tossed back any card except webspinner or mad scientist to get flare. In the non mirror match I only lost like twice once from shaman and once to a aggro rogue, the deck was that good.
I don't understand how this deck is good? He just added the two scientists. I dont want to be forced to play my traps. That seems like a waste. It could get placed at a bad time and set off on like 1 enemy minion. timing is everything when you play hunter traps. Yeah its nice to get placed for free and has potential to be good when you need it, but the scientist could potentially be a dead card in your hand if u dont want the trap to come out. I Think the card should be changed to Deathrattle: "add a random Secret from your deck to your hand" way better.
Needed to make a hunter to play a in-house HS tournament today. This was my starting point, changes are: -1 mad scientist. -1 freezing trap, -1 bow, -2 flare. +2 oasis snapjaw, +1 deadly shot, +2 tracking.
I'm running into this deck non-stop and it makes paladin and shaman a headache to play, I wouldn't be surprised if this became the new Miracle/Zoo epidemic.
Yeah thats exactly what im saying. Your wasting a trap on turn 3 when he probably only has one minion out anyway. So your explosive trap goes off on one minion instead of an aoe clear. Or your freeze trap is used on a two drop instead of a higher cost card. The value seems wasted. If it put tge secret in your hand. That would be so much better. Then I could play it when I want to
The only time I use Explosive is as a substitute card that adds a bit of very potential removal in a very slightly modified Hunter deck I found here. Snake is never a bad thing when used with some other hunter cards, and in this deck the change makes sense.
At that level, there's not really any zoo, so explosive isn't so important. Snake gives much more value there. Card draw with buzzard on the field.
Wouldn't it be helpful vs. mirror, though? Most times I'd imagine explosive being good when you're expecting an unleash and the only way to counter it would be a flare, which most decks are running tracking instead atm.
If a hunter plays UTH when the other player has a trap, unless you know it's not explosive, then you would deserve to lose. In the mirror, snake can allow you to clear out some of his guys.

Warrior doesn't always get the opportunity to get to turn 10. I just make sure to shut down their draw and shield engines early.

Played a lot of these hunters and I must say that Im usually happy to see the mad scientist on the other side.
Imo its a waste! Every hunter uses one of two traps (explo/freezing), so I just act accordingly and be happy he´s short a trap

Interesting. Did he say why he made that substitution?
Thanks for posting this deck btw. It's been very fun to play with the past few days. :-)
