I'm very interested in theorycrafting with Shadowcaster. However, there are some limitations right now in that we (or at least I) don't entirely know how this will work. I've tried asking these questions on the card discussion but they get buried by theorycrafting and arguing about how overpowered/overhyped/useless/cool this card is. Here are the questions I would like to discuss:
1) Is the 1/1 effect a transformation (i.e. Polymorph where it's a completely new card) or a buff (i.e. Bolvar Fordragon where it could be silenced)? Or something completely different?
If it's a transformation...
2) Does Anub'arak come back to your hand as a 1/1 for 1 with the amazing deathrattle? Similarly, does Shadowstep make it a 1/1 for 0 mana?
3) Does Gang Up create copies of the 1/1 for 1 or the original minion?
If it's a buff...
4) Is it a traditional buff that can be silenced to bring back your minions regular stats?
5) Is the buff removed when it's returned to hand?
If it's neither...
6) Official Blizz statement says that minions copied by Herald Volazj (very similar effect) and resurrected by N'Zoth the Corruptor get the original stats back (no longer 1/1s). This seems like the Volazj change is a buff, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Anyone have insight on this? I feel like the Volazj effect would be the same as the Shadowcaster effect in the way that it changes a minion.
If anyone has some insight, please share. Experience from that one tavern brawl or official posts about Herald Volazj are very relevant to this discussion.
did you play the "miniature warfare" brawl? it's probably the same ruleset about silence.
About bouncing back I doubt it keeps working after bouncing back..
I did not play that brawl. I was referencing it in my last comment there. How did silence and bouncing back work there? If there is a transformation (i.e. Polymorph), bouncing a card back keeps it as the sheep. I would assume that if this effect was a transformation, the same thing would occur and it would keep its 1/1 for 1 stats. That's why I'm curious which of the two it is.

silence didn't work it also doesn't work with the priest legendary.
bouncing back worked in the brawl but it was part of an aura more than a mechanic like here.. it should revent to normal cost after bouncing the card. it's still not sure.. but I am basing the revent on how shadowstep works.
Interesting. Good to know that's the case. I feel like it will result in a ton of confusion when its released. I wonder how Gang Up interacts with this?

All will be revealed in time, my son.
My name is ProudNitro. I am a theorycrafter and a custom card creator. I also make tier lists for expansions. Here's one for Whispers.

Yeah same deal with Shadowcaster minions. I've found out that it's only a buff. If you return them to your hand they go back to normal.
