Hello,
this is my version of TTK Exodia Mage, which is incredibly strong on today's meta...
Vote up if you like it ;)
Introduction
Hello, I'm JaMMeX, and I'm simply no one. But I want to show a you deck, which is incredibly strong on this meta, full of Jade Druids, Control Priests or Control Warlocks...
The main strength against all of control decks is simple. You just have a lot of time to draw your combo before your Ice Block even gets popped. Your matchup is 85/15 here.
Against aggro decks, like Token Druid, Pirate Warrior or all kind of Hunters you have bad matchups, but if you can survive first 4-5 turns, then there is chance to win. All of these matchups are like 25/75 :/
This deck, is one of these "OTKs", where you have to draw a lot with Arcane Intellect, Novice Engineer, Coldlight Oracle or Acolyte of Pain ...
Your main combo is completing your Open the Waygate by spells, which are mostly generated by Cabalist's Tome, Babbling Book, Primordial Glyph or Mirror Image from Ghastly Conjurer
Then, 2x Sorcerer's Apprentice -> 1x Molten Reflection on one of these, cast Time Warp, next turn Archmage Antonidas, another Molten Reflection for Fireball from Anton, and OTK has been born...
25 Upvotes here, and its time for mulligans and matchups!
Matchups and mulligans!
Okay, since we hitted both of these goals at the same time, it will be even easier for me, to show you mulligans for every single matchup :). I will start gradually with the most played class on ladder :)
MAIN MATCHUPS :
Druid
Since Druids are slower decks, which needs more time to go on board, because they firstly ramp with their Wild Growth or Jade Blossom, you have enough time to draw all of your freezes and combo pieces. On ladder are 3 types of Druids : Aggro, Midrange or Jade...
Against Druids, it's questionable what to keep, but always keep your Open the Waygate, cause even against Aggro Druids, you have chance to beat them through your quest... I keep Doomsayer, cause Druids have poor, and sometimes really unvauleable answers, so turn 2 Doomsayer can stop them really well! Good keep is Primordial Glyph too, you can find a lot of answers against all types of Druids...
Midrange&Jade
All-in-all, against Midrange or Jade, you have almost 90% chance to win, since they are slow on board, and you simply don't care about their "value" strong cards, because Freeze solves everything! Dont be scared, to at turn 3 and 4 draw through everything you can, because you wont die, and you have a really big chance to draw some Freeze on their board, and once you equip your Ice Block, you can draw more aggresivily for your combo pieces, and dont really care about their damage on board.
AGGRO
Against aggro it's harder, but I would say its 60% to win for you, because your survivability against fullboard is good. Dont be scared to use your Blizzard or Frost Nova without Doomsayer just like that. Because if you clear the board, anyway, Druid gonna fill it again until 2 turns. If you are able to destroy their board, and next turn drop Archmage Antonidas, you want to do it, and then use Fireball for board clear, or if you can drop atleast 2 Sorcerer's Apprentice, you can use Fireball to burn them down!

Im not ambitious at all with this deck guide, but I hope you will have best luck on ladder with it :)
Feel free to ask me if you have a question about this deck
ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING - My English is simply bad. Im Czech, and I write with my Czenglish, which means that my sentences doesnt even makes a sence... Please, if I will have some really huge mistake in this guide, write it to comments, and I will fix it :)
this deck is retarded.. EVERY SINGLE GAME my Molten reflection is the last card in my deck i think, i always lose by the time i have 2-4 cards left in my deck because i run out of freeze. unless you are super lucky and get all 5 cards in your hand before your opponent eventually kills you its an automatic loss.
Just crafted antonidas after 2 or more years of play because of this deck, never had so much fun in my entire playtime!
Btw i swapped out the Acolyte of Pain for one more Ghastly Conjurer
Thank you for sharing!
Good luck on ladder mate! :)
I took out an Acolyte and teched in a Volcanic Potion; it has helped me a couple of times, especially against Evolve Shaman and Midrange Paladin. Having 2xGhastly Conjurer is a bit too slow, ane the Acolyte does not seem to help that much.
Preety good deck imo. Its my first time playing Quest Mage but I used to be a Freeze Mage player so Im not completely new to this type of deck. In my first 10 games my winrate was 70% (7W - 3L) but wouldve been higher as I missed lethal in my second loss wich was my second game with the deck.
My losses were to: Control Lock, Tempo Mage and Midrange Hunter.
I havent given other versions of the archetype a try yet so I cant really compare the decks in strength but this deck seems to be working out fine for me at the moment.
AGree. Only match I've been able to win was against quest warrior (another slow deck). As soon as people see that quest pop out they go for face.
Your version of quest mage is not bad but its really iconsistent: like if you dont topdeck your gastly conjurer or books just in time, in the late game you can not use it properly and its gonna be just a burden. I really like 2nd cabalist and simulacrum instead of 2nd book and gastly because you increase your chances to get 6 random spells as fast as you can. And even if you cant use it because dont have enough space in hand you can just wait for 4 girls (2 girls-2 copies), use simulacrum, 2 tomes and do the quest in one turn.
Does this only have 46% win rate like it says on the front page for mage decks? Sounds a bit low for a metabreaker.
it's not an autopilot deck, like PW
I've climbed rank 5 from 12 with 40w 28l. I believe this deck is clearly a metabreaker.
It has no chance against any aggro deck but almost all my games are against priest or druid. So as long as that many control decks around, exodia mage will work.
Tips: When you dont have to spell for activate your first fireball, right combo is---- 2xSorcerer's Apprentice -> 1xMolten Reflection - then cast Time Warp and end turn. Next turn play Antonidas and cast second Molten Reflection.
Thanks for the deck, its so fun to crush these meta slave druids :D
Being determined to win with this deck has cost me 10 games in a row so far....
isnt mage supposed to beat jade druid
From my humble expreience with freeze / Exodia mage :
- Never draw with the Oracle at the start, that's why its always a bad card to draw early on especially vs aggro.
- U didn't use the potion + ping on turn 3 but its seems ur Doomsayer/nova did the work...
- Never clear with Freeze effects if you have other alternatives, the goal isn't really getting the board control back but surviving until u have the combo... u had the option to use the potion and save blizzard but u didn't, maybe u could have survived with the second doomsayer drawn if u did that, but generally the token duid matchup is hard for exodia mage.
Had a ninja edit idea: Swap out Acolyte of Pain for ANOTHER Ghastly Conjurer. Been finding Acolyte to be very awkard in this deck, in every game i've used him he's better for draw than nothing, but that's not good enough). Ghastly always has a nice delay effect and pushes the quest further forward, which is ultimately what a lot of the value yu are trying to get from Alcolyte. NOT to mention it's VASTLY better against aggro decks to throw down more of those stooge taunts.
What do you guys think?
Is it worth to craft the quest? I own the rest of the list and i like mage
The quest is kind of a Niche, but VERY unique and powerful. If you love playing mage this can be a very fun and cool deck to play with. Once you get that INFINITE Fireball going on your opponent it's one of those high points of playing this game.
EDIT: its impossible to win agro decks with this, i mean really impossibble if they have a perfect curve, you die at turn 4~5 cause it have no removal, maybe trying to put more armor or some kind of removal works
struggles very hard against agro decks
pirates, murlocs, shamans and hunters , maybe even zoo can beat this very easy
but against controls this deck is amazing!
Simulacrum is not considered?
