Just want to point out that I am numerous time legend player with handlock and it is my favorite deck ever. I have 3,9k wins with handlock in constructed atm and I mean classic handlock, not renolock.
Update:
Ok so after playing with the original decklist, I realised it's a little bit rough and made some fine tuning.
So I noticed there are a lot of 3 health minions that you really want to remove in the meta and Drain Soul can't do that. It's great against smaller minions or for finishing off the damaged ones. So I realised Shadow Bolt is needed.
Replaced Mistress of Mixtures for Voidwalker. Demon synergy and I thought the additional heal we get from Drain Soul can replace the effects of Mistress of Mixtures. But if you are meeting a lot of mages with burn or aggro in general it is better to replace them with Mistress of Mixtures.
Added Dread Infernal. Demon synergy and it is quite a nice card both against control and aggro. Has a huge body, can be comboed with Faceless Shambler on turn 10 if needed and works great with Despicable Dreadlord, since in two turns you pretty much make a Consecration with those two.
Added Elise the Trailblazer as alternative win condition/value card. Lots of other lists run The Lich King, which I don't really like in this deck, because most of the time it will give you one card and it can be a card that you don't want to play at all. Elises pack provides additional value while you are in DK mode and running out of resources slowly. It allows you to refill your hand with new resources.
Not sure about Bloodmage Thalnos or Tainted Zealot, Defile is there to help against aggro/token decks, and it does well even without those 2. Plus there is a lot of 3 damage AoEs in the game and AoEs in general. I'm not sure they are worth the spot in the deck.
Is there some reason why you didn't put Lakkari Sacrifice in the deck?
God job man.
What do you think about including Alexstrasza to this list?
thank u, I love this deck
I replace some card like -1 Faceless Shambler -2 Mountain Giant (since i dont have it) with The Lich King , Sea Giant , Arcane Giant
lot of fun
Max after your most recent changes I practically flew from 20 to 15 in a streak. The voidwalkers definitely help with the Gul'dan drop.
You can try Bane of Doom, The Lich King or maybe Defender of Argus for additional taunt. There are a lot of cards you can replace it with really.
Certainly not Bane of Doom. Played with it, didn't find it useful, it's too weak for a removal and the RNG of getting an anti-synergetic demon is too high.
stonehill defender work better than 2 faceless shambler
isnt this deck played by Kolento on stream?
He played a similar list.
Finally! A deck that doesn't require a billion legendaries right away. I'll give this a try tonight and post back later with results.
I thought about that. I also agree too much AoE might be an overkill. We need to see how effective Defile is. But against some token/aggro decks you really want those AoEs, you want to guarantee you will have them in hand when needed. I can see where cutting 1 Hellfire might be a posibility. And same goes for Abyssal Enforcer. 2nd Enforcer is definitely here mostly for DK, I wouldn't have put the 2nd one if it was regular handlock. I'm actually thinking about adding Bane of Doom into the deck instead. I think average demon from BOD right now is 4/5, so its quite good, but it can give you Howlfiend, which might just cost you the game. Also I'm thinking about alternative win condition, apart from DK, I expect a lot of control paladins and some fatigue decks, so Lord Jaraxxus might be actually an option for that, hopefully it won't make the deck way to heavy.
Hey Maximal! I was waiting for your theorycraft and i have some questions about it.
First one: could be Tainted Zealot better than Bloodmage Thalnos with Defile (or maybe with anything else) in most of the time? If you play Thalnos it is a guaranteed 3 damage AoE, but if you play Zealot it could be 4 damage AoE if anything dies in the first cast of Defile. Sure, we need to test it but what is your opinion about this thing?
The second one is the importance of Skulking Geist. Especially in the first days of the new evolving meta there will be Jade Druids and this guy could also destroy important class cards in any other matchups. Maybe it will be a reasonable tech choice. But will be enough place for it?
Hey, mate.
Tainted Zealot synergy with Defile is obviously great, but if we look at the meta, there are a lot of minions with 3 hp being played now, more than 2 hp minions, so when you will be using Defile to clear the board chances of you not getting the 4th tick if needed will be quite low. That's why I prefer Bloodmage Thalnos, it gives spell damage and also draws a card, something handlock wants to do.
Skulking Geist will be needed for numerous control decks if Jade Druid will be popular, handlock doesn't reallly need it that much,, it beats Jade Druid with midrange game and tempo and the hero card will increase the tempo even more. Besides as a 1 off in the deck, sometimes you won't even draw it, so is it really worth it including in the deck, just to counter Jade Druid pretty much, which is not that bad of a matchup for handlock? So far I don't think so. And I don't expect to see much of jade druid in the early days of the expansion.
Almost identical to the deck i have in mind to try as soon as the expansion launces. What i will change is :-2 Mistress of Mixtures +2 Voidwalker,-1Faceless Shambler +Twisting Nether. The shamblers have always been inconsistent for me and the ability to wipe the board no matter what with one card is more preferable imo, even if we already have 6 other board clears.
Anyway i think you made a really good job, people missunderstand Bloodreaver Gul'dan thinking you need a billion demons to make it viable. You need just a few since he should be a finisher and stabilizer not the main win condition.
Hell if the meta allows it which i seriously doubt,Bloodreaver Gul'dan and Lord.J might have a place in the same deck.Guldan might actually get his revenge from more than 4 years of abuse by EREDAR LORD OR BURNING LEGION.
There is definitely room for improvement. Everything depends on the meta. The idea is you survive till the mid game and turn the tempo around with strong mid game allowing you to drop DK while having the tempo. So I not sure Voidwalkers will be really needed, I mean if you survived till turn 10, you pretty much won against aggro anyway, against midrange they might be needed from time to time, against control it makes your board more "Brawlable". So I want as much effective healing as possible, especially in the burn mage meta, plus mistresses are great mirror entity/frost clone triggers against secret mage. But Voidwalker is definetely a consideration.
I can agree on shambler, the card sometimes is way inconsistent, but it is great against Jade Druids, Control Mages and Taunt Warriors, really depends if those decks will be popular in the meta, but since the deck now features 2 great 5 drops, it might be actually good to remove 1 shambler.
Twisting Nether is a consideration, again depends what kind of decks will be played. If there will be N'Zoth type of decks 1 copy is great. But in general I don't really like it in handlock, because most of the time by turn 8 you are ahead on tempo and it becomes a dead card. Its a great stabilisation tool after you played Jaraxxus, but I dont think it is worth putting Jaraxxus in right now, the deck becomes way too heavy. But I mean if the deck becomes really consistent against aggro and midrange and there will be a lot of fatigue decks, Jaraxxus might be worth including.
It's also questionable how good Drain Soul and Defile are in the early game and if it is enough to not include Doomsayer in the deck.
