THIS IS NOT UPDATED TO THE OLD GODS, I DON'T KNOW WHY IT IS LISTED AS SO.
Please ignore.
Finished r22 legend! Hype!
EDIT 10/11/15 - THIS IS A TEST version. Secredin is cancer.
10/12/15 - Hit legend with this current build, however I don't think the build is good.
Works well in the meta, nothing special besides no sylv. Just standard CW.
Mulligan
I'm going to just write-up special cases here. In general:
VS Aggro: Fiery War Axe, Cruel Taskmaster, Any 2/3 drop is fine to keep.
VS Control: Death's Bite, Justicar Trueheart (You can keep slower cards if you have a weapon/shield slam in hand. I keep slower cards anyway, but be careful with guessing what deck it is.)
Special cases:
VS paladin, If you're going first, I'd highly recommend keeping Brawl, assuming you have high drops in your starting hand. This can at least get you back in the game if you have a bad starting hand. Also, keep 2/3 drops for shieldbot.
VS CW, if you know it's control, you can beat other control warriors easily by forcing them to shield slam/execute your shield maidens/belchers. Aka try to mulligan for an aggressive curve. I've only lost to 1 other control warrior in my climb to legend, and quing into legend the past week. It's easy to outplay other control warriors.
VS Shaman, Value brawl highly here. Remember bloodlust and flame totem as you play cards and play around lethal. Geddon is the best card here. I played 0 shamans LOL
VS Druid/Priest - It IS 100% worth it to keep Execute in your hand. Druid is especially frustrating to play against, and if a priest gets an early velen's chosen, and you have no removal, you probably just lost. If you have a shieldblock+shieldslam, you could technically keep that aswell.
Will write full guide later tonight - In Progress
Explaination:
Double Brawl and Baron Geddon because CW struggles with tokens and somewhat riddler, depending on your draw.
Varian Wrynn - I don't like this card. Personally, I think it's useless in CW. Replace it for Sylv, it's in the decklist because I did run this card and VS something like Dragon priest it wins games (Assuming you baited out lightbomb)
Justicar Trueheart - Simply amazing. Won me plenty of games
x2-Cruel Taskmaster - More useful than you'd think. I hated this card originally, but it puts a lot of bigger minions in reach when used on Belcher, armorsmith, or AoP or an execute-enabler. Can be replaced with Revenge
Replacements
- Varian Wrynn + [card]sylvanas windrunner[/card]
-Shieldmaiden +Harrison Jones (Please note Harrison is extremely slow vs a lot of aggro, so this is a personal tech if you want it.)
-Baron Geddon + Sylvanas Windrunner OR Ragnaros the Firelord (Keep double brawl if you sub Geddon)
-Cruel Taskmaster +Revenge (If you do this, replace a Brawl With something like Emperor Thaurissan. That much AoE isn't healthy for the deck.)
(Also -1 shield block -1 shieldmadien +2 sen'jin would probably work well)
*Due to popular suggestions I switched x1 Shield block with x1 Bash
I'll try to answer all questions as best possible, but I prefer to be asked in this thread (Would make it easier for me): http://www.hearthpwn.com/forums/class-discussion/warrior/61776-top-200-legend-cw-advice
No Whirlwind or Revenge?
With the number of secret palafuck it's not a must have ?
I had no issues. I think revenge is fine to add, that's why there's a replacement list! But to answer, no, I don't think it's a must have.
I have a lot of problems playing versus tempo mage, like I'm dying on turn 5-6, or just cant establish board control and losing. What's the problem? Am I doing something wrong?
Gave an answer with tempo a few comments above.
I'm facing a problem where I have to use weapons to remove early threats from snowballing, however this leaves me with ~15-20 health and it's very hard to win the board back even with brawl. Once I've won the board it still quite threatening being in a position where a good combo will take down the remaining health I have. I'm trying to armour up as much as possible. Any ideas?
And also, turn 4 for example with: Death's Bite, Win Axe in hand. Would you play DB or Win axe and armour up? (with no shield slam in hand). It's tough to make the calls of board control vs an attempt at longevity (of health and cards).
I have the similar deck but I am keeping Varian Wrynn he might give value if you are struggling. I have - 1 Shieldmaiden for Justicar as both can be played on turn 6 and once Justicar is out gaining armor is not an issue.
I agree with your view on varian and list looks solid. But I really think you need Harrison or Ooze in a CW deck.
Harrison is too slow VS a lot of meta. Especially paladin. Even if you draw 3 cards off mister you just give them 3+ cards more of threats. Hunter is easily manageable with proper usage of removal, and Harrison CAN be great here (midrange) but not enough to make a difference. The biggest thing is few patron decks, if they pop up a lot remove a shieldmaiden.
Remember my goal with this deck is for people to climb 5-legend! Also, I could easily be wrong about this, change the deck to fit the meta you run into. If you don't know what the most efficient subs are, ask!
Completely agree with you. Haven't had issues with patrons though. I have always kept a weapon equipped with brawl for them.
You could have called it "Standard CW" and it would have been a much more appropriate description.
Lists exactly like this have been played since naxx release, you can find some with the very same cards posted months ago.
When will this agony of "XXX's legend warrior" end? It's ridiculous to see this upvoted.
The deck isn't bad, we know it, but we know it because we all have been playing it for over a year. Stop posting the same list over and over.
Few things. Under the "proof" I mention it's just standard control warrior. The goal of posting this on a fansite is to help new players and or people trying to hit legend use a list that I know works in the meta.
I just put "mendi's CW" because I played WoW and got r1 a few seasons ago and hoping a few old friends might see it and PM me. Sorry if that offended you lol, but as I said it's just standard CW.
Why I don't like this deck?
I respect your opinion on Varian. He's being replaced by Baron Geddon as soon as I earn the dust.
Running the exakt same deck except that i swaped bash for varian, works pretty good.
I used Rag for awhile until I crafted Ysera. I personally dislike Rag in this format right now because of the plethora of shit that paladins, warlocks, patron warriors, and shamans like to fill the board with. It was better when the board used to be filled with maybe 2 high valued minions at most.
I'm playin same deck this season doing:
-1 Alextrazza + 1 Rgnaros
-1 Justicar + 1 Harrison Jones
I only have dust to craft 1 legendary, alextrazza or justicar? TY.
I would say go with Alexstrasza for the late game pick me up or the minus sometimes 15 dmg. However I would also rly try to get Justicar Trueheart because it is most of the time slam turn 6 into infinite value.
Alex is a necessity. Justicar is provides great armor but Alex is crucial. It gets you out of a tough bind or enables lethal the following turn for you.
I crafted Varian Wrynn like a week ago. Maybe I should have made Ysera. Crap.
I'm running Kel'Thuzad, Nefarian, Dr. Boom, Varian Wrynn, Sylvanas Windrunner and Sneed's Old Shredder on the top end. Maybe I'm being a bit too greedy? I've never lost to another control deck but I do lose to Face/Midrange Hunter and Dragon Priest sometimes. Those matchups are probably only a little under 50% for me though, so maybe it's worth it to have that shiny 100% vs. control. Not sure.
Mech mage is laughable, which surprises me. How am I managing to lose to hunters sometimes, but crush mech mage?
In my opinion all of those are fine, except it's Alex that you really need. Anything else in CW is mostly a meta call. And yea, I know how it feel with Varian. I didn't craft him, but I was really excited to open him, and he's such a cool card, but he is getting phased out of all my Warrior decks. He's just not that great. If you'r ahead or behind against control he either rockets you into fatigue, or over extends you into removal. The small chance that the opponent won't be able to handle the board state is not enough for me. Against aggro you're usually too pressured to commit 10 mana to a single anything.
