Updated for Rastakhan

So you want to play the Discard Warlock quest Lakkari Sacrifice. Well buckle up, pal, this one ain't for the weak of heart.

What you may be noticing is that this deck is almost entirely cards that deal with discard. The deck originally started off as an aggro Warlock shell with some discard payoff in it, but gradually grew to its current incarnation as I played. The madcap secret of the Warlock quest is that Blizzard actually made the deck for us, all you have to do is assemble.

This deck is midrange with a potential for an explosive opening. You may or may not finish the quest or even use the quest if the chips fall correctly. I have drawn all the cards in my deck by turn 6 and still won. I have pulled Deathwing from an on-curve Cruel Dinomancer. I have also thrown away every tool I needed and lost horribly.

Spin the chamber and put the gun to your head. Only then will this deck show you the way.

Opening:

You want to mulligan for your low-range as is usual for a Hearthstone deck. Look for any 2 drops, and if you have the coin a Lakkari Felhound. If you have huge brass balls, you can keep Cataclysm against aggro decks to play the portal on turn 5.

Tiny Knight of Evil is a good turn 2 threat on an empty board. The dream is to play a Succubus or Darkshire Librarian that pulls out a Silverware Golem. The omega dream is playing Malchezaar's Imp and The Soularium to draw three cards and finish half your quest for 2 mana. Maybe there are two Silverware Golems and a Clutchmother Zavas in there, who knows.

The Quest:

The Warlock quest card Lakkari Sacrifice is the least used quest for a reason. Every other quest lets you gain value while you work towards the goal, while the Warlock quest has you pitching away options at random. In order to really get the most out of the quest, you have to go all in on a seemingly inconsistent deck.

Utilizing The Soularium, Howlfiend, or Cataclysm you can get the quest out on turn 5. Cataclysm especially can make for some nut-clenching plays against aggro. Having the quest out early usually drowns midrange and control decks in value. The imps it spawns can easily clear out many taunt-focused survival decks. However, against face aggro like Hunter you usually can’t get it out fast enough even on turn 5.

The short answer is to almost always play the quest and the portal as soon as you can, but against what you know is a face deck you may consider throwing it away from your opening hand.

Rastakhan Update:

Rastakhan brought a lot of great new Discard cards, but most of them are geared towards the control shell. After a lot of playtesting, I decide -2 Fist of Jaraxxus +2 Reckless Diretroll and -1 Spellbreaker +1 High Priestess Jeklik. Fist just wasn't pulling enough weight for me, and Jeklik is a must-include. I strode the dark path of no Howlfiend for a while, but brought him back over Fist.

The Cards:

Malchezaar's Imp: One of the cards that makes this a wild-only deck. This guy is great to negate the card disadvantage generated by this deck. If your opponent is smart, he’ll try and kill this guy first. If he’s galaxy brain, he’ll try and let you hang yourself from exhaust.

Soulfire: A no-brainer in this deck, 4 damage for 1 that also assists in the quest.

The Soularium: An excellent tool for aggro has become maybe the single best card in this deck. When comboed with Malchezaar’s Imp, becomes draw 3 for 1 and finish half your quest on turn 2. I cannot stress enough that this card is crucial for this deck’s most insane plays.

Clutchmother Zavas: Discard payoff cards are scarce, and Zavas is unique in that she provides infinite discard value. Don’t be afraid to play her as a 4/4 if you just need bodies. She also makes Howlfiend way better when she is in your hand. Always consider keeping her if she shows up in your opening hand.

Darkshire Librarian: Discard and draw! A solid minion for this deck that can be a lifesaver if you just need another card.

Succubus: More like succu-busted. Play her turn 2 for some early aggro and hope you discard the shiny Silverware Golem in your hand for laughs. Nothing makes the opponent sweat more than staring down a 4/3 and 3/3 on their turn 2.

Tiny Knight of Evil: This guy can get out of control fast if left unchecked, espcially with a Howlfiend or Soularium. Slap him down turn 2 if you have a followup discard the next turn. Don’t play him against an opponent’s board unprotected if you can avoid it.

Howlfiend: Probably the most contentious card in the deck, Howlfiend is the card so bad players are literally looking to give him away. People worry that he will allow the opponent to discard the portal from your hand, and he can totally do that if you don’t play him carefully. Slap him down turn 3 and don’t look back. A technical note, a single card like Arcane Missles cannot make him discard the quest, as it spawns after the card has finished dealing damage. Oh, and if you’re a huge coward you can replace him with Imp Gang Boss.

Reckless Diretroll: The 3 slot for this midrange deck has always been tough. Thankfully, with Rastakhan, we have the best answer we could have gotten. Targeted discard that keeps us alive until we can fire off the portal. He'll handle this.

Silverware Golem: Discard payoff! One of only 3 such cards in Hearthstone currently, he is an auto-include. Don’t be afraid to play him turn 3 if you have to.

Cataclysm: This card can easily turn a slow start into a turn-5 portal. If you happen to have a Malchezaar's Imp out, you will refill your hand as well. Don’t forget that you can retain board control with Silverware Golem, Cruel Dinomancer, and of course the Nether Portal if it is active.

Lakkari Felhound: This guy is one of the best in the deck, and at common quality too. The huge body on this guy is real difficult to deal with. He also accelerates your quest on turn 4, and can potentially help in getting that coveted turn-5 portal. He should be a high-priority play.

High Priestess Jeklik: The single best payoff card in your deck. If you can duplicate her even once before slamming her down, you've basically won the game against aggro. Also is a pain in the ass for anyone trying to finish you off.

Blood-Queen Lana'thel: More like succu-busted! Wait, I already made that joke. She can turn the game around very quickly if your opponent doesn’t have a way to kill her clean. She is not essential to the deck, but good if you own her already. Usually gets discarded if she shows up early.

Doomguard: The king of Warlock aggro is even better here.

Cruel Dinomancer: This guy is hilarious, but can be hard to get into play. If you have a good opportunity to put him on the board, you won’t regret it. Having a Doomguard, Blood-Queen Lana'thel, or even Deathwing pop out is sure to ruin your opponent’s day. If you use Cataclysm he can spawn cards that were in your hand when you played it.

Deathwing: Big Daddy D. While rarely played, you’ll be glad for his topdeck. He’s also hilarious when he pops out of Cruel Dinomancer on turn 6. If you have the portal on deck, you’ll also get 2 3/2s to back him up as well as any Silverware Golems you have in hand.

TL;DR This deck is an expensive way to make opponents furious at your high-roll garbage.
