Hi guys.
I decided to go for legend with my Spiteful Mage and got stuck around rank 3. After making a few key changes I got to legend with a record of 15-3, so I'm sharing!
Update: Latest version has a few anti-aggro/meta techs, -Mind Control Tech, -Giggling Inventor, +Zilliax, +Gluttonous Ooze
Showcase (Thanks to kiwiinbacon)
Match-ups
+ Druid
+ Hunter (Kathrena deathrattle can be tricky though)
+ Pala
+ Shaman
~ Rogue (Baku can be tricky but any other is easy)
~ Warlock
- Mage (ouch)
- Warrior (but still winnable)
Mulligans
Basic mulligan: If you don't get Prince Keleseth in your starting hand, try to find enough 1-drops to play minions on both turn 1 and 2 (1x Fire Fly + 1x Argent Squire/Glacial Shard is ideal). If turns 1-2 are covered, keep one of the stronger 3 drops (Tar Creeper/Coldwraith) and so on.
Vs aggro: Keep a Tar Creeper no matter what.
Vs control (especially Druid): Keep one of the 5-drop minion boosters (Fungalmancer/Cobalt Scalebane).
Guide (in progress)
Before I go into deck-specific strats, I want to mention a few things about a couple of cards in the deck.
Coldwraith - This is the card that people have questioned the most. As I have posted in the comments, 90% of the time this card is played for the 3/4 body alone, and the draw should be seen as an added bonus if it happens. A strong curve is much more important than drawing, so never sacrifice tempo to set up a freeze combo for Coldwraith.
If you feel uncomfortable almost always missing the combo, there are several (untested) alternatives: Blackwald Pixie(double Jaina/normal ping), Nightmare Amalgam(Extra Jaina lifesteal), Vicious Fledgling(Probably too hard to defend), Thunder Lizard (probably good but inconsistent).
Frost Lich Jaina - Looking at the stats of the deck I see that 20% of people are holding on to Jaina in the mulligan. Jaina is not core to this deck, she is there as a Plan B to save you against aggro or in case you can't beat control mid-game. Spiteful Summoner is a better choice if you feel the need to hold on to something big.
If you feel Jaina isn't contributing enough, possible (untested) swaps are Zilliax, Bonemare or Arcane Dynamo
Feel free to experiment with the deck and post your results. I will add any user-made guides to the description.

First game my hand on turn 4 was 2 x Spiteful Summoner, 2 x Pyroblast and 2 x MC Tech haha... just my luck, I'm sure I will have some better games with this deck.
I have a really good win rate with this deck. Most of the times I don't even draw Prince Keleseth in my early game, but I have enough control to get at least one, maybe two Spiteful Summoners up. Frost Lich Jaina really wins you the late game most of the times. The heal is just insane.
Thank you for sharing this deck with us. <3
What do u think about Stargazer Luna ???
Think it can beat some trouble before ooc, dont know about the card value cause miss one Pyroblast so cant test the deck atm
yeah that would be a really funny comb. but i mean only Luna without the Galaxy. maybe instead of an coldwraith or control tech for card drawing
I am currently testing it. Swapped out 2 Coldwraiths and Water elementals for Stargazer Luna, Harrison Jones and Amalgam. Don't have Jaina so Amalgam basically for additional sync with Zilliax. Got some nice draws with Luna, but nothing extraodinary or gamebreaking as it could be in Tempo mage.
All in all feels in place. Played only like 5 games, but had Luna played in 2 of them. She is also not crucial for game plan, but scares opponent and forces removal.
So additional situational draw, removal bait and still nice 4-health body is better than 1 more attack of Amalgam I suppose.
What I also did was adding Alexstraza. Theory was - if I get Spiteful + highroll, then it's straight win on turn 9, if they do not get answered. Or Alex, 5 damage + pyro next turn. And it worked: https://hsreplay.net/replay/tE4iJ7UxBG2JMTwYFZcE9T
Also had some awesome time watching how Big Spell mage tried to pull his big spells with that 2/2 minion, rolling into my pyro (of course) two turns in a row :)
thought that it makes no gamebreak, cause tryed luna in bigspell for drawing but most of times is any acolyth better
But yeah the surprise effect is very hard for the most oppenents (have made a few smiles in my face when played) :D :D :D
anyway luna is only amazing in tempodecks i think
Spiteful Druid is better if you are interested in playing spiteful deck.
Only two spells? Any options for at least a third?
wow nice deck. Replacement for spiteful summoner ?
Nice deck, any replace for Prince Keleseth
replacement for lich king guys ?and second pyro
its tempo is great and pyros can be lethal also. I just tried it and odd warrior survived 10 turn. I am at rank 10 right now and it seems I will go with that. thank you
Whats a good replacement for a 2nd pyroblast? you think flamestrike would suffice?
You want to pull that 10 mana cost for spiteful. I mean it might work, but I don't think it will have as much impact.
Great deck! Although I don't usually appreciate winrate as hook in the title when there aren't at least a 100 games played samples, I tried this one out and won 5 out of 5 for now, including a really tough game against an Odd Warrior (brought him down from 40+ armor and finished him with 2x Pyroblast back to back after he was in Dr. Boom :D), a Deathrattle Hunter, an Odd Rogue, Odd Paladin and Zoolock!
Currently 1 star away from rank 3, probably gonna try and get Legend with this, it seems pretty strong and fun! Good job :)
edit: beat Quest Rogue just now, too :)
Got to Legend with a combination of Spiteful Mage, Deathrattle Hunter and Odd Quest Warrior; played about equal number of games with all three (played some Big Spell Mage along the way too)...was kinda slow this month because I have A LOT of problems irl so didn't have enough time to really grind; but just wanted to say, Spiteful Mage was pretty good - there were of course games I lost to aggro pretty convincingly, but there were also games I piloted pretty well, even if I say so myself - winning against Warrior, Toggwaggle Druid, Shudderwocks, Hunters, Odd/Quest Rogues, Zoolock, Odd Paladin etc., sometimes even with drawing both Pyro's before Spitefuls...
The best feeling was around 3 stars away from Legend when I queued in a few Quest Rogues in a row, and got a pretty good curve with Coldwraiths they just couldn't respond to adequately. Tempo'ed 'em out from there.
I did make two changes tho; -1x Mind Control Tech, -1 Giggling Inventor, +1 Zilliax, +1 Gluttonous Ooze.
I felt like I've needed weapon removal against a lot of my opponents (aside from the obvious Twig, Skull, Vinecleaver etc., Collider is especially worth removing quite a lot of the time!), and I don't really like playing double Giggling because of the counters in the meta, and Zilliax was able to save my skin a couple of times with the 3 or 4 Health heal.
So, once again, kudos to you OP for the idea, even if it's frustrating to have 2x Spiteful and Coin in hand, only to draw Pyro on turn 5 AND 6 (happened to me twice :D)
I replaced Coldwraith for Zola the Gorgon and an Water Elemental for Harrison Jones, workes fine for me
Not really, bloodnight is a crucial card in like 80% of the meta decks you see because giggling inventor is in every deck regardless of the deck being control, aggro or midrange. If there is anything to replace bloodnight just as a 3 drop alone, i suggest thunder lizard like the OP said to another guy. or if you have nightmare amalgam, then use that instead.
Just Replace Cold Wraith with Nightmare Amalgam. Same cost, same stats, and works as an elemental. You're welcome. Not a difficult choice at all since almalgam is the best option as a replacement.
