Heroic Loatheb - Priest's lifeforce deck

Consistency: Reliable (expected number of tries 1-3)

Introduction:

Loatheb is a very aggressive boss with a very unfair start. And creating consistent decks to beat such bosses is always a challenge.

There are basically two popular approaches for this battle. The first one is to use a lot of cheap minions and spore activators to outspam Loatheb's Hero power, but I don't really like it. It is way too luck based.

The second approach uses a defensive deck with a lot of healing. Such decks are designed to win in the mid- or late game and certainly are much more consistent. I spent several days trying many different cards and variations of this deck, and I think I finally hit the spot, where significant improvement of its win rate is no longer possible.

General strategy:

As I said this is a defensive deck, which is able to keep you alive pretty much until fatigue.

In the early turns try to don't lose the board as it is basically the main thing, which decides the game's outcome.

You will need right cards to defend yourself from the initial onslaught, but if you survived, in most cases you are going to win. Loatheb has a relatively weak late game, so you will be able to use your bigger minions to capture the board.

Deck composition:

This deck is soaking wet with lifeforce. More than half of this deck can heal you.

There is no minion spam strategy involved, so most of the minions in this deck cost 3-4 mana and are supposed to take over the board in the later stage. Almost all these minions have some sort of healing attached to them and have 6+ health, so they don't die to Loatheb's removals. Tournament Medics are absolutely awesome in this deck.

I was a bit skeptical about Elven Archer, but she has proved to be useful. She is a great buff activator and a potential 1 mana removal for the initial Fen Creeper, even though it rarely happens.

Mulligan:

Mulligan for Power Word: Glory, Shadow Word: Pain and Elven Archer. Spirit Lash also helps.

You need to Shadow Word: Pain the initial Fen Creeper, but I think that Power Word: Glory is better used on the next Loatheb's minion.

If played on the first turn, Elven Archer often dies to 1-mana AoE, but it is ok, since she delayed aggro for one turn. If the boss did not draw AoE, then your archer will remove either Deathcharger (good) or even Fen Creeper (insanely good).

Tactic tips:

Dumb Loatheb will attack with a Power Word: Glory-buffed creature even if its attack is lower than 4. Use it for your advantage.

Don't play Northshire Cleric on turn 1. Fen Creeper will kill her for free. Blizzard improved AI a bit, so don't let some older videos deceive you.

Always consider a possibility, that the boss has Poison Seeds, which transform all creatures into 2/2. So don't overcommit.

Try to keep your later minions in full health to protect them from Loatheb's 5-damage spells.

Consistency notes:

During my final tests I won 6 out of 10 games. Yep, this is 60% win rate, but I think it will be safe to assume, that its actual rate is somewhere around 50%.

This deck however requires careful play and good decisions, so if you do a lot of mistakes your win rate may be significantly lower.

Blacktiger's Naxxaramas deck collection:

Provided win rates are approximate. They are based on my tests and so partially depend on how lucky/unlucky I was during my testing. Also keep in mind, that you need a bit of experience with a deck to use it to its full potential. So first attempts usually have lower win rates, than suggested in this list.
