Control Druid
(Updated the list to an Astral Tiger version, should be better now)
Hi Everybody,
This is my take on Control Druid. The deck is quite complicated but very rewarding to play. It tries to win through big boards (N'Zoth, the Corruptor, Hadronox) that can even get buffed with Branching Paths. If that doesen't work, we rely on fatigue.
If you face many fatigue matchups you can think about adding Astral Tiger or Jade Idol. I didn't need them so far.
1) Raza Priest: The gameplan is to outarmor them and to mill their combo pieces.
2) Big Priest: The Key card in this matchup is Poison Seeds. It's actually pretty complicated: possible plays are to taunt up and feed them your Deathlords or leave their Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound on board for several turns so you get as many minions as possible with your Seeds. It's also good to play your N'Zoth, the Corruptor or Hadronox into their board, because then they don't wanna scream them and sometimes you can even burst them down with Branching Paths
3) Warlock: Also pretty complicated matchup, where you can make good use of Sylvanas Windrunner. Poison Seeds is again a very important card.
4) Malygos Druid: Same as with Reno Priest, but easier to do: Armor out of range, Mill some of their combo pieces, with Naturalize and Deathlords
5) Aggro Decks: Pretty straight forward: Taunt, Remove, Heal
Mulligan
Against slow decks: Look for Ramp and Draw: Nourish Ultimate Infestation and for Key Cards
Against aggro: Look for Wild Growth, Removal and Taunt
Other Versions
1) Original version
i wouldnt cut the swipe, but rather one poison seeds or wrath, but the idea seems very memy and funny. im not sure about baron or umbra, but oakheart could be really strong in this deck. you should definitely try it out! :)
1 Ultimate Infestation must be enough for this deck, and where second Branching Paths?
i think Master Oakheart and Baron Rivendare - weak cards for this deck. On 5 rank i dont realize oakheart for 3 minions in 7 games (he summon 2 minions in 1-2 games and 1 minion in 3 games). Baron do 0, like 1-7 taunt for 4 mana). 5-2 score, reach 4 rank). I play without tiger (aaah, maybe i will craft him :D). I think this combo (master + baron) better with 2 tigers and cards like 1-5 or 1-6 taunt for 3 mana and 2 Ultimate Infestation
i have reworked the whole deck a bunch of times now and I think I finally reached the "perfected version". you were right, one ultimate is more than enough, good tip!
Man, we created two somewhat similar Fatigue Druid decks in the same day, namely yesterday!
My version is more oriented to board clears and Mill, while yours is more taunt oriented.
I like yours too, and as soon as next expansion kicks in, I'll see if i can craft that Hadronox.
I also like that Sylvanas and I may steal that idea for my own deck.
+1
Hey,
I just looked at your list and it looks really fun. I'll definitely try it out.
For some reasons these control druid lists keep popping up at several places, I just saw Sipiwi (relativly famous wild player and streamer) play something similar today.
stealing ideas from one another is what hearthpwn is for, so feel free. mabey i'll steal some of yours too ;-)
I may tech in an Astral Tiger and a Skulking Geist to deal with the Jade Druids out there. I'm not sure what to remove for them though, possibly the spellstones... What do you think?
spell stones a re very good removal, remove an Iron bark instead to swap for the Tiger as for the Geist i have no i idea
definitely not spellstones, they are absolutely crucial. i'd too would say iron barks, but i don't know how well hadronox works if you do that.
EDIT: just encountered jade druid a bunch of times - don't try to tech against it, the matchups is unwinnable and it's not worth it, you'll just make the deck weaker overall. if you play in a pocket meta where you face a lot of jade druids, you should probably not play this deck, but since jade druid isn't omnipresent by any means, it should mostly be fine. i've seen a lot of aggro shaman lately and that matchup appears to be very favored for us.
I love control druid and have been playing Taunt Druid in standard for a couple expansions now but have yet to try it in wild. Would you say that the Sylvanas is necessary or how do you feel about a big taunt replacement like Lich King?
i like sylvanas in this meta, since it allows you cool plays against warlock and big priest, but you can definitely try out it.
