Quote from BlizzardGather your gear and hold fast to your ambition, newcomer. This is the Barrens. The road before us winds through vast, sun-scorched lands, bringing danger and discovery beyond imagination’s grasp. Thorned dens of bristling quilboar, rampaging tribes of furious centaur, and treetop nests of soaring harpies separate the champions from the weak. The Barrens are the anvil upon which the Horde as we know it was founded: A literal crossroads where the tauren, trolls, and orcs came together for the first time. Heroes are made here. Perhaps you, too, shall be Forged in the Barrens.
Forged in the Barrens will launch worldwide this Spring with 135 new collectible cards! You can find the full schedule for card reveals and see which cards were announced today by visiting the card library here. Check back frequently—the list will be updated with new cards as they’re revealed!
New Keyword: Frenzy
The monsters, minions, magic, and machinery found within the boundaries of the Barrens can turn any upstart axe flinger into a champion of the Horde. Minions with the new Frenzy keyword will trigger a powerful effect the first time they survive damage!
Ranked Spells
Mastering magic is key to surviving the elements (and elementals). All 10 classes will have access to an all-new Ranked Spell that will grow in power as your reach 5 and 10 Mana Crystals, regardless of whether it’s in your hand or deck!
New Mechanic: Spell Schools
Magical Spell Schools are a permanent addition to Hearthstone, which will be applied retroactively to many previously released spells, adding synergies and a new layer of depth throughout your Collection! Spells in Standard and Wild can now have a tag from one of seven different schools:
- Arcane (2 Spells in Forged in the Barrens, added to 44 Spells from past sets)
- Fel (3 Spells in Forged in the Barrens, added to 22 Spells from past sets)
- Fire (2 Spells in Forged in the Barrens, added to 43 Spells from past sets)
- Frost (2 Spells in Forged in the Barrens, added to 24 Spells from past sets)
- Holy (5 Spells in Forged in the Barrens, added to 67 Spells from past sets)
- Nature (6 Spells in Forged in the Barrens, added to 112 Spells from past sets)
- Shadow (4 Spells in Forged in the Barrens, added to 109 Spells from past sets)
Meet the Mercenaries
There’s no shortage of swords-for-hire within the Alliance and Horde. Forged in the Barrens introduces 10 Legendary Mercenary minions, each representing a different class, whose stories will play out across the Year of the Gryphon in an all-new year-long narrative!

to be honest what is different between frenzy and battlecry?
exactly cuz
Frenzy is much more like Enrage than Battlecry... Infact, I can't even understand how you could compare Frenzy to Battlecry.
One happens when you play a minion, and the other happens when the minion takes damage...
I only play 4 days a week and I have 7.5k gold. And I didn’t buy the Premium Rewards track.
I like the idea of Frenzy but Its too early to say if it will work out well or just end up being a different version of battlerage. Either way the Legendary Frenzy card will see play even if its only in a druid or paladin deck that buffs it for greater board clearance.
As for the Spells getting Tags In general I am fine with that but it may effect the rouges stealing other peoples stuff synergy. Because at a glance Bru'Kan having spellpower buff based off spell type is an indicator that they may do this with other cards which will in general weaken the overall power of theif rogue which lets be honest isn't all that powerful to begin with.
It might also effect Mage in the grand scheme of things too imagen Sorcerer's Apprentice 2.0 reading Your mage spells cost 1 less but no less than 0. This would impact their deck of lunacy archtype.
But I wouldn't be suprised in the slightest to see tighter restrictions being added to the new Core set and Expansion that will effect copy/stealing mechanics in the game. I just hope Priest don't get any more bonkers cards this expansion murozond, plague of death, and Mass res were really powerful and are sticking around for another year I think so give priest some Situational cards and rubbish ones for a change.
I'm kinda sure this separation of spells will allow for more powerful spells that cannot be made broken by sinergy with other cards. Look at how the new shaman legendary has a crazy (for the cost) +3 spell damage but limited to some kinds of spells. So it can still get access to a powerful Fire spell that would be OP with those +3 spell damege but it's still balanced.
Of course it's kinda bad news for the stealing classed like rogue and priest, but they will probably hav their own stuff to balance it. (also it helps designing cards for other classes and stealing cards without worrying that the shaman legendary, for instance could be broken in a Rougue's hands, because Rogue doesn't have that many Nature spells)
TBH Thief Rogue very rarely worked out as it was but they keep trying to push it on rogue as an archtype... where as Priest was somewhat reliable but that is mainly due to them always having decent cheap clearance spells or High value minions like Convincing Inflitrator.
I agree it opens the door for more interesting spell design in the future giving them tags but it will most likely kill Deck of lunacy and other cards that are RNG based and make Thief Rogue and Priest more unrealiable.
Reguardless I'm going to continue playing the game but I'd have suited them better adding more Minion archtypes before adding a type tag to spells. The game has countless undead minions yet they still lack their own archtype.
I can imagine they’ll try to make ice Mage, fire Mage, arcane Mage, each with their own synergies.
which is quite flavourful if you think of mages they’re kinda supposed to specialise in one element mostly
I have been playing 3+days a week and i have only 4.5 k gold,I call bullshit on 6000+ gold
I have 6k gold ready and I bought the mini set with gold, it depends on how much gold you saved overall, if you had a ton of gold saved from last expac it’s easier to get the current set quicker and start saving gold again faster, sort of like a snowball effect.
6k gold, and I bought the mini set with 2k gold, + I really had spent everything I had when darkmoon faire expac released in Nov.
I'm level 102, it goes really fast after level 50 and that's where you see this system nets you more gold than before.
(and I'm not farming ranked every day, mind you, otherwise my experience wouldn't amount to much in this conversation)
if you get to level 50 on level track you gain 5650 gold in total, so it is not hard earn and maintain 6000+ gold
If people are maintaining this gold, that means they used real money to purchase packs of the current set, rendering their argument moot. I am level 149, and have 15 gold, because I have to buy packs, still... Have spent 100% of my gold since Darkmoon's release on Darkmoon packs, and am nowhere near all the epics or legendaries.
Nope. Spent 0€ this expansion. I used all my 6k gold for initial packs, then used 1k more gold thanks to the first reward tiers that are super fast, and that's it. I just accepted the fact that I wouldn't get all the legendaries and stuff, which is kinda normal when going full F2P. I guess it's easier to do that when you're like me = a full-on Wild player.
And then, spent 2k on the mini set.
And to be thorough, I had like 8k dust, so it's not like I could craft all the expansion if I wanted to.
Plenty of people will have had gold from before the dark moon expansion and used that. I save gold between expansions and have done for ages.
Who did this to you? You can be saved from your unhappiness.
