Tekahn, Plague Lord of Flames
Overview
As you may already know, the difficulty of this fight largely depends on how many personal treasures you have collected over your entire adventure in Uldum. This guide will give several tips for every hero, their decks, and their treasures.
Stage 1
Takahn’s hero power will constantly create Enflamed Golems that can keep disrupting your board. He has 10 Sanctum Golems, so be prepared to fight a lot of them. While it does affect his own minions, a ton of them are 4/4s. Since they’ll survive with 1 Health after a golem dies, so Arcane Craftiness, Starseeker, and Spread Shot are good hero powers to use to pick off the weakened lackeys. Finley’s Sandstorm Elemental
and Brann’s Ol' Faithful are also good follow ups to this situation. Truesilver Lance may look like a good way to pick off a Lackey every turn, but he runs a pair of Gluttonous Oozes that would stop the infinite cycle.
If you’re Elise, then this is the stage to try to stock up on as much value from Lyra the Sunshard or whichever Navigator you have. The remaining 2 decks have WAY more removal than his lackey one, so buffing them up is safer during this time.
Stage 2
Tekahn abandon’s his lackey base strategy entirely and swaps to a hybrid deck that’s half C'Thun support and half N'Zoth, the Corruptor/Hadronox support. He’ll protect himself by resummoning as many taunt minions as he can. He runs 2 copies of Abominable Bowman. Unless something like Faceless Lackey or Witchy Lackey produced a beast for him, it will summon another Hadronox. It’s very important that you save an answer for it before it dies, or this fight is going to be much harder.
Addarah and Scales of Justice are good ways to eliminate the threat while preventing him from reviving his spider (at least until the next stage). If you’re Reno or Brann, you can get a few copies of Hadronox of your own with Shadow of Death and Dire Frenzy. Reno can also straight up steal one of Tekahn’s powerful legendary minions with Reno's Crafty Lasso if you’re lucky. Hopefully you’ll be able to snag his other game changers like Shudderwock or Kel'Thuzad.
Stage 3
Tekahn typically starts out this stage by casting The The Final Plague?! This will produce a huge board consisting of all 4 Old Gods. If you don’t have a card that can kill everything, you should at least have a way to get rid of C'Thun and Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound. They’re the real threats while other 2 are there for flavor. If you haven’t used Addarah or Scales of Justice yet, this is a great time to do it to keep from falling behind.
Beyond this, his strategies remain mostly unchanged aside from a few cards that either negate or take advantage of the Health cost of his hero power. Karl the Lost and Staff of Renewal can protect you if you can’t exactly get rid of them. They’re also very cost efficient ways to fill up your board, which is necessary now that cards cost Health as well. Reno can armor Up with Arcane Artificer to effectively block out the Health cost of his spells. The Gatling Wand is a fantastic finisher if you’ve cast enough spells.
Combos & Synergies
The fight against Tekahn doesn’t allow you to bring the minions you would normally combo Evolve with like Doppelgangster or Desert Hare. However, if you save if for when you change into a different hero, you can make even bigger plays with it. Evolving a board filled by Swarm of Locusts or The Forest's Aid will give you a serious comeback if Tekahn destroys everything with a Plague of Death or Twisting Nether.
If you worked hard enough to get the Sr. Tomb Diver, then you definitely have the ability to activate its amazing Battlecry in this game. But Reno Jackson only has 2 of the 3 secrets needed. You could potentially generate one, but Sir Finley has the third secret you need if you don’t want to leave it to chance.
Tekahn has an arsenal of extremely powerful cards. Your treasures can win you the game, but they can’t do it by themselves. Your other cards as well as generated cards need to be used strategically to keep you in the fight. Vargoth doubles the effectiveness of one of your spells, but you won’t be able to choose the target. If you’re still holding onto him after dying as Elise, efficiently generating more cards isn’t a bad idea.
These 2 are capable of game-winning combos, but to reliably pull them off, you need to stall Tekahn out until your deck is empty. That can be tough since you not only have to withhold resources in a boss fight, but you need to survive long enough to draw out your whole deck. But if you accomplish this, there is certainly payoff. One option is to cast Shadow of Death on Lei Flamepaw, then use The Gatling Wand the following turn, which Lei will copy 6 times. If you don’t have The Gatling Wand or Lei, then you can cast Shadow of Death on one of your Sorcerer's Apprentices while holding onto another, and have your Archmage Antonidas produce free Fireballs next turn.
I sure had some fun, pure luck, didn't really read anything, the card was 30 damage or something when i drew it, then I try to stall the game till I could use it for one shot.

Stealing Rakaishu, something I've not have to privilege of doing, seems SOOOO satisfying. Good job.
Thank you, this guide helped me to beat him first try. Went with Reno and got lucky to draw Reno's Crafty Lasso on turn 1. Stole his Rakanishu, so his lackeys were regular size. From there, I settled on Sorcerer's Apprentice Shadow of Death Antonidas combo, since I didn't have Lei Flamepaw unlocked on Heroic yet. Went smoothly, although I believe it's very hard to execute this gameplan when his lackeys are 4/4s (Arcane Craftiness in theory should help clean up them after you kill a Golem).
I've beaten this heroic boss six times now, most recently a 300-0 with Finley only. I still think Finley is the best to start with.
I held on to the Lance and Sr Scout until Tekahn was out of cards, built up a board with Bubble Blower and Finley's Hat every turn to avoid fatique. I hit face a few times using the lifesteal from the lance to get back to 50, while letting him fatique out to 204, then used a Bloodlust to take him below 150 with a non-special board. I discovered a Rebuke somehow(I think off a Lackey I got off the Slurper), so that I could do another turn of massive damage in Phase 2 before he wiped my board. I also saved the Murloc treasure so I could deal with The Old Gods.
Elise has a nice way to ramp up to 10 mana crystals quickly, but her minions are weak, so killing a 6/6 Golem and then the 6/6 golem that spawns on the same turn is VERY HARD, but for Finley, it's easy. Bubble Blower is so good because it allows you to contest the board, kill the 6/6 twice on the same turn and have a chance. You can low-roll and discover some bad minions, but even the weak ones tend have to useful battlecries.
It is amazing how TERRIBLE the decks are and that you can't Mulligan. Draw all spells and you have to restart, the Devs really need someone who is good at the game to help them.
I did this with out unlocking all treasures, and only 2 heroes died. Here's how!
Stage 1: Play Elise, and take the hero power where you can heal for 2. Only focus on control, and save your one treasure card where it's a 3/6 minion that clears your opponents board and shuffles it into your deck. You NEED to save her for Hydronox and use it then so he can't constantly fill his board with taunts. DO NOT LET Hydronox die, or it's a wipe. Once Tekhan is outa cards, drop down Lyra and chain cast spells stock piling a hand full of board clears and control cards. Once you have a full fat hand, and a full board, push him to Stage 2.
Stage 2: Pick Reno once Elise dies from an empty deck, and keep controling Tekhan while getting jabs in when you can. From this point you want to out tempo him, so play Reno like a Casino Mage tempo deck. He prob will die but you will exhaust most of Tekhan's answers. If you are lucky you can Entomb his C'thun totally removing that threat, and once Hydronox is out you want to remove that too. Keep turning spells into other spells and save one more board clear for the final phase. Try stealing cards from Tekhans hand with the lasso, getting a twisting nether is key for the final phase!
Stage 3: Burn burn burn! Once Reno dies, play Sir Finley and get that Lance up with the hero power to discover a card at the cost of 1 mana with overload 1. If you keep swining with the lance you'll always have a steady stream of heals, and just keep droping taunts. The one spell that kills two minions and you gain armor from them, is your best friend here! That card is a Brann card though, and he's your final line of defense.
Good luck!
Elise was really better for Phase 1 than Finley has been on Heroic. Thanks for the tips. Three Victories now.
Hi everybody!
I did it without unlocking all the treasures! (I actually only unlocked Finley completely, other heroes almost no treasures). This was my tactics:
Don't go to second phase! Don't go there until you have everything prepared.
I started with Bran and there it's just surviving as long as you can, when he dies you pick Finley and choose hero power that gives divine shield and windfury. After you exhaust Tekahn completely you build up your board like CRAZY! There are some really strong minions you can get, i cant remember everyone but i know that the beetle is great and Bolvar and the little chick that gets +1 dmg for every summoned minion. Anyways, try to put 7 minions with HUGE attack and give 'em all windfury. When Tekahn has gone to deep fatigue (about 201 hp) you hit him with all you got!!! When he clears the board you play the scout (charge windfury) for some more damage.
After that he should have only about 50 hp, depends how lucky you were with minion attacks. Then it's Elise and Reno (i didn't even play Reno, Elise got the job done!). The thing is you completely SKIP 2nd phase, and on 3rd phase Tekahn can't do much because he has low health.
I know it's not easy and a lot of RNG needs to go your way, i had to retry about 5-8 times, but i made it!!! I really didn't want to grind every hero treasure after completing every boss with Finley.
GOOD LUCK!
Thank you, your instructions allowed me to win:
- started with Bran, focused on the minions and Tekhan had about 15-20 cards left when Bran died
- switched to Finley, still focused on the minions, not the hero, until he had no cards left. Just before, killed my small cards (1-2 attack...)
- When he had no cards, put all my big minions on the board and gave them windfury. The one that gets +1 attack for every dead minion was at +60 attack. Gave it windfury => 120 attack + 2x bloodlust for everyone.
- In one turn he got from 201 to ~30 life!!
- Then it was easy to bring him to 0 using the 2 other heroes (did not even need them).
Got that cardback :-)
I'd mention that Finley's Senior Scout Treasure is *REALLY* important for Phase 1, as is the Lance, for swinging the board back in your favor, so you can get to Phase 2. Without them, I never would have made it out of Phase 1. I like going to Elise 2nd, so I'll have Adarrah for Phase 3's start. I used Adarrah to get the Old Gods, and won with C'Thun dealing the final Battlecry Damage to Tekahn's face for my first Heroic Full Clear.
I'd recommend all the treasures for heroic, including the Senior ones. On Normal, Finley alone with all of his treasures can 300-0 Tekahn. A helpful trick for getting them all: Use Brann+Flo+CallForHelp+Dino, or Finley+Lance+Bubbles+BackInAction to get a final wing's boss to 1 health, so the trash heroes like Reno and Elise only have to get to the Final Boss of a Wing to start unlocking their treasures.
For example, from a fresh heroic start, Play FInley as much as it takes to get to Finley+Lance+Bubbles+BackInAction, then clear all 4 wings. Go back and get 2 bosses to 1 health with Finley, then play Brann on those wings until you unlock Flo. Then Take Brann+Flo+CallForHelp+Dino beating the remaining 2 wings. Then go back and play either Finley or Brann to get the 4 wings bosses again to 1 health, concede, and beat all 4 wings with Reno, and repeat with Elise after getting bosses to 1 Health.
It seems like it takes longer on paper, but it's faster, IMO, because you are basically 2-shotting every boss, since Brann and Finley can 300-0 them the easiest, IMO, because the odds of anyone taking a fresh Elise or Reno and 300-0'ing the boss is pretty low, so prep'ing them for a quick death should save time for most everyone.
For me, Reno and Elise are SO TREASURE DEPENDENT , that unless you get really good ones to start, it's a waste of a run. YMMV, but the above worked for me to clear Heroic pretty quickly.
I’m glad Truesilver Lance works for other people. I would always get screwed by the ooze vs stage 1 Tekahn. I had all of the treasures going in, so I just tried a bunch of different things.
I also cheesed it when it came to earning all of the treasures, except I used a calculated Gatling Wand to bring them down to 1 every time. When the next chapter came out, I’d instantly get 2-3 of the hero treasures for 1 damage. Reno Jackson is personally my favorite hero and not just because he’s Reno Jackson. Sr Tomb Diver really helped me make these guides. I got the Hero Power and trolled the Plague Lords for an hour so I could take notes on their deck lists.
I didn't claim the Lance stuck around for that long against Tekahn, but even a few turns to help regain control of the board can be very helpful. :)
