Tombs of Terror Heroic Guide - Tekahn, Plague Lord of Flames

Tekahn, Plague Lord of Flames

Overview

As you may already know, the difficulty of this fight largely depends on how many personal treasures you have collected over your entire adventure in Uldum. This guide will give several tips for every hero, their decks, and their treasures.

Stage 1

Takahn’s hero power will constantly create Enflamed Golems that can keep disrupting your board. He has 10 Sanctum Golems, so be prepared to fight a lot of them. While it does affect his own minions, a ton of them are 4/4s. Since they’ll survive with 1 Health after a golem dies, so Arcane Craftiness, Starseeker, and Spread Shot are good hero powers to use to pick off the weakened lackeys. Finley’s Sandstorm Elemental

and Brann’s Ol' Faithful are also good follow ups to this situation. Truesilver Lance may look like a good way to pick off a Lackey every turn, but he runs a pair of Gluttonous Oozes that would stop the infinite cycle.

If you’re Elise, then this is the stage to try to stock up on as much value from Lyra the Sunshard or whichever Navigator you have. The remaining 2 decks have WAY more removal than his lackey one, so buffing them up is safer during this time.

Stage 2

Tekahn abandon’s his lackey base strategy entirely and swaps to a hybrid deck that’s half C'Thun support and half N'Zoth, the Corruptor/Hadronox support. He’ll protect himself by resummoning as many taunt minions as he can. He runs 2 copies of Abominable Bowman. Unless something like Faceless Lackey or Witchy Lackey produced a beast for him, it will summon another Hadronox. It’s very important that you save an answer for it before it dies, or this fight is going to be much harder.

Addarah and Scales of Justice are good ways to eliminate the threat while preventing him from reviving his spider (at least until the next stage). If you’re Reno or Brann, you can get a few copies of Hadronox of your own with Shadow of Death and Dire Frenzy. Reno can also straight up steal one of Tekahn’s powerful legendary minions with Reno's Crafty Lasso if you’re lucky. Hopefully you’ll be able to snag his other game changers like Shudderwock or Kel'Thuzad

Stage 3

Tekahn typically starts out this stage by casting The The Final Plague?! This will produce a huge board consisting of all 4 Old Gods. If you don’t have a card that can kill everything, you should at least have a way to get rid of C'Thun and Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound. They’re the real threats while other 2 are there for flavor. If you haven’t used Addarah or Scales of Justice yet, this is a great time to do it to keep from falling behind.

Beyond this, his strategies remain mostly unchanged aside from a few cards that either negate or take advantage of the Health cost of his hero power. Karl the Lost and Staff of Renewal can protect you if you can’t exactly get rid of them. They’re also very cost efficient ways to fill up your board, which is necessary now that cards cost Health as well. Reno can armor Up with Arcane Artificer to effectively block out the Health cost of his spells. The Gatling Wand is a fantastic finisher if you’ve cast enough spells.

Combos & Synergies

+

The fight against Tekahn doesn’t allow you to bring the minions you would normally combo Evolve with like Doppelgangster or Desert Hare. However, if you save if for when you change into a different hero, you can make even bigger plays with it. Evolving a board filled by Swarm of Locusts or The Forest's Aid will give you a serious comeback if Tekahn destroys everything with a Plague of Death or Twisting Nether.

If you worked hard enough to get the Sr. Tomb Diver, then you definitely have the ability to activate its amazing Battlecry in this game. But Reno Jackson only has 2 of the 3 secrets needed. You could potentially generate one, but Sir Finley has the third secret you need if you don’t want to leave it to chance.

Tekahn has an arsenal of extremely powerful cards. Your treasures can win you the game, but they can’t do it by themselves. Your other cards as well as generated cards need to be used strategically to keep you in the fight. Vargoth doubles the effectiveness of one of your spells, but you won’t be able to choose the target. If you’re still holding onto him after dying as Elise, efficiently generating more cards isn’t a bad idea.

These 2 are capable of game-winning combos, but to reliably pull them off, you need to stall Tekahn out until your deck is empty. That can be tough since you not only have to withhold resources in a boss fight, but you need to survive long enough to draw out your whole deck. But if you accomplish this, there is certainly payoff. One option is to cast Shadow of Death on Lei Flamepaw, then use The Gatling Wand the following turn, which Lei will copy 6 times. If you don’t have The Gatling Wand or Lei, then you can cast Shadow of Death on one of your Sorcerer's Apprentices while holding onto another, and have your Archmage Antonidas produce free Fireballs next turn.
