Baby Deathwing except not nearly as good! :D
Weak to silence
Theoretically good in a Dr. Boom deck, since both the 2/2 and 7/7 would get Rush.
Just no !
Could be good with Priest's "deathrattles costs less and die immediately" card
Wicked sweet with Doctor Boom hero. Rush the 2/2, then get a rush 7/7.
In general, kinda meh. These weak-body, big Deathrattle cards frequently haven't worked unless they're really cheap (Nerubian Egg, Devilsaur Egg). Twilight Summoner didn't work, this one is... who knows. Mech tag might be enough. Between the increasing frequency of Rush and the new Magnetic tag, it might work, but it seems particularly weak to silence.
Most of the time I would agree with you completely, however recently Hunter has actually found some success running Silver Vanguard, Terrorscale Stalker, and Play Dead in big beast deathrattle/egg deathrattle decks. In a similar way but with a different effect, Dragonhatcher has seen play in big taunt druid. I agree that these cards are extremely punished by silence, however if they are activated on the turn they are played (as is what happens in the above decks) then they become a lot more consistent.
I guess I just think there's a huge difference between a 3-mana card which, when triggered, gives a 5/5, and a 6 mana minion who rattles a 7/7. The initial investment is twice as high, but 7/7 isn't that much harder to deal with than 5/5. Likewise, Silver Vanguard into Charged Devilsaur or Kathrena Winterwisp is huge value and potentially charge. Possessed Lackey into War Golem is a bit less impressive.
But then the mech tag might really matter. It can be hard to foresee how whole decks and archetypes work. Suppose this guy sticks for a turn, you magnetize something onto it, and trade into the biggest enemy minion. That'll be a board swing. I can see it being good, but, yeah. I kinda stick by my initial feelings. Might work, maybe, I dunno.
I'll say this though: this will probably be a really great get off of random or discover sources, like Omega Assembly or the Doctor Boom hero power.
Yeah your analysis is good and on the face of it I do actually agree with you - hard to imagine it working very well at first glance (but also impossible to know how a meta will turn out, as you've said). The whelp is the kind of card which can only ever be viable if you cheat it out, copy its deathrattle, duplicate its deathrattle, cube it, or multiple of the above, whereas you feel a lot less bad about just paying full price for an egg with no immediate manipulation of the deathrattle.
Life finds a way.
"Mechanical Dragon" is a dragon or a mech?
Mech, for sure. It can't produce baby dragons.
Well if go by lore then Alextrasza , Ysera and no other dragon can prodcue baby dragons. They all are litteraly sterallized
Hearthpwn bingo was right
Great synergy with the new priest card Reckless Experimenter
no, 3 mana 7/7
I mean this type effect wasn't that strong before, an ok arena card though.
"Let me change your mind"
Fantasizing about making Zerek's Cloning Gallery work. Perhaps a Quest Priest focusing on primarily big DR minions like Obsidian Statue, Mechanical Whelp, Skelemancer and such. Problem would be consistency I suppose.
why skelemancer?
Skelemancer sucks
