I'm disgusted with Team5's approach to the game. Since beta they are actively making Mage class worse and worse while turning it into a meme class with the expansions.
They nerfed
- Pyroblast from 8 mana to 10
- Frost Nova from 2 mana to 3
- Cone of Cold from 3 mana to 4
- Blizzard from 5 mana to 6
- Mana Wyrm from 1 mana to 2
They rotated Ice Lance and Ice Block to Hall of Fame and gave crappy cards instead like Icicle.
Every expansion since forever there's so much garbage for Mage. Most of the stupid random bullshit goes to Mage. Servant of Yogg-Saron of course goes to Mage. Deck of Wonders, Spellslinger? Sure, why not. Even good cards are random. Legendaries are also crap. Flame Leviathan, Anomalus, Toki, Time-Tinker - what's this meme idiocy? Inkmaster Solia is another level of bullshit - the devs made Kazakus for Mage at first, but then decided it's not fair to give good cards to a class they don't like and changed it to Solia.
There's never a tier 1 Mage deck, everything's a niche gimmick, yet every time an expansion is announced there are these guys who scream WOAH Luna's Pocket Galaxy is nuts! Mage will dominate everything!! Faceless Summoner is insane value, how could they release something like that?!
Then there's this even/odd deck archetype. Of course they both suck for Mage. Yet the devs just have to release a card to tease. Couldn't Black Cat just be a good value minion without shooting yourself in the foot for once?

im not sure about this card... you usually mulligan for early game (doomsayer/ravens/tarcreepers/ etc) to survive till round 5-6-7 where you can clear board with aoe... So why would you want to duplicate early game stuff on round 9+... It's also so slow to drop 8 mana cost minion without immediate effect vs most opponents... So far it looks BAD

I used to play big spell mage with Jaina Alana etc but when firelands portal and medivth rotated out i switched to tempo with Aluneth and then stopped playing for 4-5 months... Now I returned 2 weeks ago but big mage uses like 5 new epics and Lich King (and it rotates) I can't afford so instead I de'd some old stuff (temporus, gold cards) and made stargazer... Imagine my face when I logged in today... Holy shit blizzard really hates mage class

played vs very similar deck but im not sure if he had naturalize... he ramped with greedy sprite and nourish then played hadronox on turn 6... i silenced and killed it but then he used witching hour and cube... it was early so hadronox rezzed like one tar creeper and applebaum... I sapped the cube... and then lost in late game when he used the second witching hour + second cube... this time with board full of taunts like primdial drakes and shit... anyways this is such a cancer that can't be played around... another control warlock / big priest mechanic... i hate this design

The truth is that this game is unplayable for new f2p players.... even if they'd focus on a cheap (4k) meta deck like spiteful priest or secret mage (worse choice) it would take them months of grinding and more expensive ones are beyond their reach... i'm f2p player since nax who has always mained mage & it's the only class I have cards for... Maybe I could make 1 more class work if I disenchanted all wild cards from the last 2 years but that would have been one time trick... Actually the only reason why I can play with expensive mage decks is cos i DEd lots of crappy legendaries from wild and past adventures (which don't exist these days), got refund on sylvanas, lucked out with alana and alexstraza, medvith was free etc. A completely new player would never gain so much dust to make a 8-12+k cost deck currently and with this wild/standard rotation system... Also back then you didn't meet fully fledged meta decks at rank 18 like you do nowadays. Cheap ~2k decks were very effective at getting you to rank 10-5...

pretty sad day for a f2p player who mained mage... basically big spell / burn / control mage is all i've got and now some of my decks will get much easier to beat... tbh i dont get the whining about this card as imo it was barely used in this hearthstone year (not used in big spell or secret tempo till recently)... freeze mage was a tad dead since they removed emperor and icelance and added all the cheap healing to the game... and all those control mages were like 3% of mage dekcks at most? so what are u celebrating? more faec aggro? ok...
also control mage power level was like ridiculously low compared to real cancer such as razakus, big priest, aggro pally or cube and control warlock (which are supposedly ultra interactive... dont make me laugh)

0% winrate vs aggro/murloc paladin no matter which mage deck I play... in over 20 games... from now on I'll just concede when I see one...

This deck does a pretty well against control warlock with Rin unless he also has N'zoth (this can lead up to 8 big void walkers which is a tad too much to handle) or gets great dirty rat rng and pulls Alana or Medvith out of mage's hand... Anyway regular version is not that hard to beat (you simply save one sheep for Rin). what trully rapes this deck is razakus priest and secret tempo mage (this deck has 0 responses to counterspell)
