Mate this thread is not about Standard/Wild comparison. It is more like an advice to the newbies.

Rofellos posted a message on Cart Crash at the Crossroads - Tavern Brawl #65Posted in: Tavern BrawlI had an epic game in this brawl, but it was due to a massive brainfart by the opponent:
He had 3 minions on the board, rather large ones too, and I only hadAnomalus. It was looking pretty bleak, as I was down to 17hp and he could do at least 14 damage that turn.
Then he made the MASSIVE mistake of playing Moat Lurker. Result: Anomalus' deathrattle triggered, clearing the board and ended up being resummoned.
Game over.

Right... He is more than likely watching something in the background not giving two fucks about being roped or your emotes. You're the loser in that relationship. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

So I've been waiting all weekend to hit the arena hard tonight, using up my last tickets. The IN-GAME warning was that we had up until midnight. So what do I find instead: "This Arena will end soon. Signup has been disabled."
Blizzard, why can't you seem to make sound decisions more often. They're probably worried about all the people bitching that they started a run tonight and didn't finish. What about all of us that love this arena and wanted one more good night of it. You betray your own warning and end it way early. What are you thinking? Does anybody get together there and discuss pros and cons of decisions???

Utter lack of imagination of game modes. There will always be exploits and nerfs. Dominant meta will always be figured out super-fast. If all we're truly rewarded for is grinding, it will simply cease to be fun. Every year will be the same pattern, with different card names and pictures.
1
The highest level problem is game modes (ladder). That they will fix it "later" (for years now) tells me all I need to know about how much they understand their own problems. They need some modes that will let you use your whole collection in new and original ways, by introducing more complex quests that put in deck constraints forcing creativity.
They seem to think they can fix the game with nerfs and expansions, yet every time, the community boils down the meta in weeks or days and we end in the same horrible grindy place. They're missing either the a) resources, b) smarts or c) guts to overhaul the game modes.

There seem to be quite a few people to whom it matters what color the pixels are on their screen. Gold cards. Gold heroes that you stop playing altogether. Cardbacks. Now the crafting screen. Maybe I'm kind a killjoy but it's all kind of insane.

I think you're over-reacting. Are you new?

So I played the current Tavern Brawl. And while I usually enjoy these off-the-wall ones, I realized losing streaks were just too punishing. So I just came up with this half-formed idea:
I wish Brawl had its own set of quests that came with it each week, that had nothing to do with winning, and had some relevance to that Brawl. Some super-quick examples for the current brawl:
Destroy 20 enemy minions with random spells (40g)
Destroy 20 friendly minions with random spells (40g)
Lose 1 game by dealing fatal damage to your hero with a random spell (60g)
etc.
I'd replace the free pack with these weekly quests, but still let brawls count toward normal dailies and 10-gold at the same time.
These would be 1) fun to try for, 2) possible any given turn regardless of whether you're winning and what RNG swings do, 3) getting more people into Brawls but less salt, 3) replacing classic pack on a single win with gold toward what you need more but getting more brawl commitment out of you, and 5) allowing you to progress with dailies and 10-gold but still make you feel like you got somewhere during losing streaks.

I champion brawls like this against the ladder babies, but I have to say, losing streaks in these kinds of brawls feel so f'ing bad. But the problem is not the brawl, it's that Blizzard has every sense of forward movement in the game built around WINNING.
My hopes and expectations are 1) to get a pack and 2) to progress on dailies. But both insist that I win (at least, I seem to always get the "win" dailies). So I play a 10 minute game, lose at the end, and then do that 3-5 times in a row, and I just want to light shit on fire. I turn the game off hating everything about it and having felt like I've wasted an hour of my life.
It doesn't have to be this way. It would be better to not offer a pack and not apply brawl to dailies, because then I would play without any mental tie to winning, and I would enjoy it so much more. You can call me an idiot and say "hey idiot, if you don't like it don't play -- this is a free pack you entitled jerk!" But our brains don't work that way. Most of us enter brawls prompted by the idea that it will move us forward in the game, not just purely entertain us. The other dailies like casting spells are perfect, but they're not all that common, and they could be so much more imaginative with those kind of quests.

This is simple logic in action. Every new meta will get figured out over time and large samples will make brutally clear that one or a couple decks are better than the others over time. To not expect that is kinda silly at this point. The best we can hope for is some kind of rock-paper-scissors scenario so at least it's not all 1 deck.
Ladder is the problem. We need way more innovation in game modes. Rank floors are nice and all but it's like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I like one or both of: 1) rewarding new accounts with a bunch of classic packs, or offering a very cheap pack with no or reduced chances of legendaries. As a long-timer, I would be salty to see every new account getting all the legendaries, but aside from that, I say give them a big head start on classic.
