Played for an hour, and already loving it. Something fresh and fun to play.

Betrayer... In truth, it was I who was betrayed. Still, I am hunted. Still, I am hated. Now, my blind eyes see what others cannot: that sometimes the hand of fate must be forced! Now go forth... unleash the tides of Doom... Upon all those...who would oppose us.
Idk if i'll play it. From how it sounds it seems a little too easy to progress, just by handing out legendaries and making their drop rates pretty high, seems to me like there's not a lot of value to them in the first place. Also the way it works just seems convoluted.
Yeah cause why bother working for something when it can just be handed to you? It's literally like just handing out loot like it's Destiny or something. One pack for 3 wins? That's ridiculous. You can't even make money off of that kind of model. Why should I spend a single dime on Legends when they just hand me all the cards I'll ever need?
You get a few Legendaries for playing the Story mode. But so does everyone else, they are there to make new players have good cards, all of them, not as in HS where some players are lucky opening packs and some are not, getting stuck with a garbage deck for weeks.
Garbage decks? A lot of decks that work well in Hearthstone are pretty cheap, with plenty of working decks with only a few epics in them. The fact that Disneyland Warrior is a thing proves that cheap decks can work, you just need proper understanding of the bloody game, I'm fine with it Legends being pretty liberal with their card distribution, but at this level I don't see their game surviving much longer if they don't give people a reason to actually spend money on it. Also I don't trust Bethesda to make a decent multiplayer game.
Hearthstone is F2P friendly? Sure if you spend 5-10 hours/day.
Everything is expensive. Arena gives you a lot of cards but basically there is no way you can go infinite arena. Even if you win whole thing you shouldn't expect more than 300 gold (entrance fee is 150 gold)
Isn't it same in Hearthstone too? Not every time you are rewarded with lot of gold. Sometimes you get more pack and less gold and vice-versa.
Second, getting 300g/run makes infinite runs, no? You pay 150g -> you get bunch of packs + ~300g. Spend 150g again. Repeat.
The best part is the SOLO arena. If you are not comfortable or not familiar with game very well, you can still have Arena experience against AI and get very good reward. The AI is not dumb either, which makes things more fun.

1. Card quality (common, rare etc) seems to directly affect card strength. Basically you can't compare epic and legendary with common cards. I don't think you can make quality decks after few days of playing. In HS you can easily reach rank 5 with super cheap aggro decks (obviously cards are not everything). Hs id definitely more f2p friendly
2. Everything is expensive. Arena gives you a lot of cards but basically there is no way you can go infinite arena. Even if you win whole thing you shouldn't expect more than 300 gold (entrance fee is 150 gold)
1. Not true, last beta season rank 1 Legend deck was Archer (Strenght/Agility) with 1 legendary, 6 epics and 8 rares (including 2 epics and 4 rares that you get from story) out of 50 cards, other top10 legend deck uses only 4 epic and 9 rares. If it's not cheap then i don't know what is.
2. You can be infinite when you win 6/7, so basically same like hearthstone, the difference is in Legends 6-7 wins net you 500+ gold value, while in hearthstone it barely give you entry back.
I played this game last 3 weeks pretty heavily, it's improved Hearthstone with deeper strategy and much much less rng (still exist to some level), tho it lacks few important features like spectator mode, yet it obviously have 0 chance to compete hearthstone cuz Bethesda is not Valve/Blizzard and 10 milions of people won't instantly play their copy of the game that already exist even if it's better.
The story mode takes place after the High Elfs took control of the capital (before the ESO timeline). It's good and you can get really nice rewards. The game in general is a copy of HS BUT the rune system is awesome, as it gives you an opportunity with the summon card effect to get back into the game.
The two attribute system is good, it allows some balance but it can be quite confusing sometimes.
A bigger card pool. The art is good in general.
The most negative part for me is the store option. The great advantage of Blizz is they manage the games locally (i.e. local currency and the local language) and the rate between currencies is a PAIN when buying stuff.
The deck limit goes up to 60 (?) with at least 30.
No health cap (you can go beyond 30) and 12 max magicka (but can go beyond with some cards)
In conclusion, is good alternative to HS as it allows different strategies (the decks size does matter) with the local spirit HS gave with the magic curve. Play it, you will love it because it's too similar to HS.

"There are bad ways to win-- and good ways to lose. What's interesting and troubling is that it's not always clear which is which. A flipped coin doesn't always land heads or tails. Sometimes it may never land at all..."
Awesome, thanks for the link. Pretty sure that one will get banned if the curse guys going for a hearthpwn like Elders fanpage! The site is made by the guys from hearthstonetopdecks, so a direct competitor.

I need to heavily disagree here with you and it looks like that you are either speaking of the solo arena in low difficulty (which is more of a basic training and has lower rewards) or that you did not finish anyway near a 7 win in arena.
You are paying 150 gold and if you win 7 times you will get 3 booster, gold, soul gems (dust in HS) and some rare or better card. Depending on the card you are looking here at 450+ gold for your play. I got 3 booster even with 5 wins the other day. Not sure how you can find the HS system any better?! I would also expect that they might consider expanding the number of wins when more player are in the game, so you might get even better rewards.
In the solo arena the AI difficulty will increase over time and so do the rewards but they will always be lower (still you are looking at 2 booster packs + gold + soul gems + cards).
I had the chance to play it at pax, it is really fun. I think it is the only card game that could compete against hearthstone.
What about Gwent? especially the people who don't buy packs, that game will be perfect for them as everyone will be equal footing as far as collections are concerned. It's a completely different style of card game though.. if you haven't played it I'd recommend trying to get on the beta.
I played through the entire story mode yesterday, it was easy but the point is to teach you about the game and give you cards. I am coming to this game the same as I did to Hearthstone, with no prior knowledge of the franchise it is based around. So I know nothing of lore, races, the storylines of Elder scroll series, etc. This is my first thoughts (of course for most people this is very important as many people try a game for a little bit then either quit or continue)
Pros
1. The 2 lanes do change things up a lot. It is like playing 2 games simultaneously, but then spells and battlecries can effect the other lane, some creatures can spawn copies in both lanes or are free to attack either lane. The shadow lane protects your creature.
2. The runes...this adds a layer of strategy, however in the pvp environment I can see this leading to some negative feelings. The free card draw is one thing, however the playing prophecies for free seems like it can swing the whole game from a win to a loss. I don't know how people will react to that.
3. More mechanics than found in hearthstone
4. More potential for deck variety with the 5 colors, and various combo colors (some cards can only be played if you are running 2 specific colors)
Meh...
1. The story mode reminded me of Magic Duels, it was alright, a bit generic. For people who are unfamiliar with the Elder Scrolls universe, I think it won't have much impact. It is also quite short, but I expect more chapters in the future (it seemed like a prelude). The cinematics and stuff were decent.
Cons
1. The game is very imposing. I can't imagine casual game players jumping into this game. Being able to build between 50-70 card decks, and combining colors and all that, will seem overwhelming not just to people unversed in ccgs but to people coming from Hearthstone. There is a lot to take in, and this game seems more geared towards hardcore card players which makes it harder to explode in popularity.
2. It obviously borrows a ton from Hearthstone. On the surface particularly this is going to lead to many people not giving the game a chance to judge for themselves.
3. The card art. A lot of creatures, cards seem very generic looking. This is more a D&D serious fantasy art type thing but it also seems very bland. It is detailed, but there is nothing like Ragnaros or Ysera or whatever that just wows you when they enter. They also mostly talk serious it seems. Now Magic also has a serious style, but it grabs you a lot more and is beautiful in its own right (I am not a magic player, just a little experience with Duels Origins).
4. You have to install the Belthseda client to play. A lot less convenient than just using steam, but Hearthstone required the Blizzard client as well.
I would assume that (moving forward) every new Bethesda game requires the launcher, so that one will be on many PCs just like the blizzard client, which should lead to a rising interest in a free to play game when people see it in the launcher.
I just installed it and I have a ton of questions, started with what Avatar to choose. Can you change it later or not? What classes in HS similar in gameplay with what colors/attributes in ESL? Or with MtG?
Is there some guide I can read about this game to learn basics at least? I prefer to read, but also could watch, if it's short.
I prefer aggro or combo decks in HS, but sometimes play control/midrange also. My favorite classes are Warlock(handlock/reno/demon midrange)/Warrior(patron/dragon/otk)/Druid(old combo/maly/a little ramp)/Shaman(aggro/otk)/a little Rogue(miracle/maly).
In MtG I played various decks: white/red, red/green, green, black. Only color I don't like in MtG is blue. But I don't play MtG for years, so it's not so important.
So what deck/color in ESL should I choose to fit my playstyle?

Looks really interesting, definitely will give it a try. Thanks for this thread.
Release the Kraken!
legends-decks.com is probably the hearthpwn for this game.
Check out this Legendary crafting list if you are starting out! http://www.legends-decks.com/thread/29/legendary-crafting-tier-list
Got invited to closed beta literally the day before it went to open beta. haha
My free arena went 9-0. The rewards feel preeeeety good.
Can you play it on your phone? If not, it's already a failure
