I “read” about 80 books a year. The majority are audiobooks, played at around 1.75x speed (so around 8 hours per 400 page book), about one per week. These are listened to during my commute, household chores, the gym, and walks. I read about 20 physical books a year, several at a time that I cache in the living room (for when my wife steals my laptop after the kids are in bed), next to my bed (insomnia), and the office (work related books). I also read about 5 on my Kindle / Kindle app, on airplanes or other times I have poor reception (like the throne in my office). I’m middle aged, and have at this point read over 1500 books as an adult, including every book on multiple “best of” lists, most winners of awards like Hugo/Nebula, Pulitzer, Nobel, etc as well as books by authors from the majority of the world’s countries. It makes me a better person.
I set aside an hour a day for reading... just to be sure I'm not on Hearthstone too much. Have 3 kids and a startup to juggle... so reading kind of takes my mind off the hectic work.
I read non-fiction books. So the books I'm reading are kinda of boring to most people. "Company of One" and "Profit First".
Sure, I read about 70-120 books a year. My favorite authors are: O.S.Card (I love Ender world !!! Love you Jane!) P.K.Dick (he is a master. Real true MASTER!) J.Piekara (inquisitor Mordimer is a crime detective in alternative middle-aged europe where Jesus come from cross, and bring for people sword and pain) M. Huber (cities under the rock, one of the best books I've read!) B. Sanderson (Mistborn <3)
But of course I read many more. My adventure with books began with Harry Potter. Since he came into my hands, I love books and I can't imagine that it could be otherwise.
Words of Radiance from the Stormlight Archive, Warbreaker, Annihilation, The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged, The Three Body Problem, The Name of the Wind.
Enjoy reading a lot, even though i was not able to for a while. Just finished a book i started on ages ago: John Grisham's Het Eiland (Camino Island). ( do read dutch as well as english books.
Now that i can finally read again the next one probably is a Stephen King or similar.
Oh I saw the mentioning of Garcia de Marques-100 jaaar eenzaamheid (100 years of solitude): Respect you finished it. Got the book for so many years and tried it many many times. I just can't get through it, maybe one day....
Wow, Hearthpwn is truly an incredible place! Not only do we have the best HS players in all the world ever who would absolutely destroy any of the GM's if they didn't have such bad luck with RNG, we amazingly also have people who read more than 100 books a year! A true melting pot of genius if you ask me.
Sorry, but I don't buy it. Unless you are unemployed and spend all your time reading there's no way you read more than 100 books a year. Comics and manga 'books' don't count. Some of the most productive, successful and well-read people I've ever met read about 60-70 books a year and they spend a lot of their free time reading. Audio books don't count as reading either.
You would think that people who read so much would be able to string a decent sentence together... Guess I’m wrong on that one!
I started reading the book a Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Stephen Hawking was a great writer! I need to write an essay on this book and I think I should write it myself. But now there is no time for this, so I think that I will just buy essay https://anonymous-essay.com/college-essay.html.

Agreed. I personally would love to read a lot more, than i do (still, I'd estimate I read like 40 - 50 books per year), yet between my job, girlfriend, gym and friends I have like 1-2 evenings each week just for myself.
One thing to note though - a lot of kids and teenagers play HS (which to be honest explains a lot, both on this forum, and in the game itself) - they do have time to spend on games and books. I am fairly confident I used to read something around 100+ books per year, during my 10-17 years old period.
I read a lot of books when I was still younger. I used to imagine myself reading all the popular and highly rated books but it wasn't long until I realized that reading as a hobby takes a lot of time and I only have a finite amount of time being awake and alive, I accepted my fate of not being able to read everything I want to read in my lifetime. Perhaps, it was because of the realization that made me drop the hobby, I'm not sure. I still read some books every once in a while. The last book I read was just a month ago.
My love for books translated into love for movies. At least, watching all the great movies is a realizable task but reading all the great books is not. I'm more proud of my letterboxd list than my goodreads list.
On a side note, I'm really interested in Haruki Murakami's books as all of the movies I've seen that were based on his books/short stories are all great.
I have a two year old (three in September!) that I or her mother read to every night. Her favorite jam right now are the Pete the Cat books.
Reading was a huge hobby of mine in my younger years, when more time was available. I am so thankful for the knowledge, vocabulary, and curiosity that reading inspired and instilled in me. I hope to pass that down to my little one.
when i can be on pc im on pc. but during travel time i read a lot. i read scifi & fantasy.
my favourites : artemis fowl, sandman slim, percy jackson, Rivers of London, Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, time riders. i can go on but most of these are series of books.

What I have read so far this year:
Words of Radiance from the Stormlight Archive, Warbreaker, Annihilation, The Blade Itself, Before They Are Hanged, The Three Body Problem, The Name of the Wind.
I only read non-fiction.
Currently reading "Punk Rock Dad" by Jim Lindbergh, lead singer of Pennywise.
"The world outside is so big, but it's safe in my domain
Because to you I'm just a number and a clever screen name..."
I THINK FOR MYSELF, THEREFORE.... I'M AN ATHEIST !!!
Great thread. Doing a zoom book group with some friends reading Simenon's roman durs. Starting with The Widow.
Nice to see a thread like this :)

I love war literature - Hemingway, Dos Passos, Crane etc. I did my thesis on Dos Passos btw, great writer.
Why don’t audiobooks count? My retention level is actually a bit higher in my experience.
I never learned how to read :'(

For all fantasy lovers, I can recommend my favorite author - Brent Weeks. His books are simply great, although pretty complicated and long.
