Quick question, why are most players so proud that they never paid anything to hearthstone?
Yes it's a free-to-play, yes the concept is that you can play free.
But seriously, I'm not saying that blizzard is poor or need money but don't you think that all the work they are doing, all the dedication and all the passion for games deserve at least a little contribution?
I did buy some booster and I'm proud of it. It's my contribution and thanks to Blizzard.
I think TGT will be great and I love Hearthstone. Sorry but saw so much complaining thread, needed to send back some love!
People who earned all the cards being F2P are missing out on other important aspects of life (sex life definitely, raising kids, having a career, education etc.) so their actually at an even bigger loss than if they paid a few bucks for some virtual card game packs...
Money is important to life - but not always the #1 priority. People are in denial about their greediness,.... hence the hating on paying for cards. (and while they are endless doing arena runs till 3am, the rest of us are satisfying other fantasies ;) )
I would rather meet a F2P that is proud of accomplishing such "challenge" than one bitching about it because his parents don't let him their credit card.
Some people don't understand that time is more valuable than money and others don't understand that it takes money for the game to exist.
It's OK to be proud of getting your collection with no money whatsoever (i myself haven't spent a lot of money and i have all the cards i need), but don't disrespect the guy that pays the big bucks. It's because of him that you get to play the game.
It goes both ways. On one hand many people cannot afford to pay for a game like this, and are challenged more to be good at arena and/or use their resources wisely. On the other hand, any money you spend contributes to the game, and you get what you want more easily. You can be proud of contributing and not having to work as hard, and you can be proud of being successful despite having less resources.
And yeah, why I dislike a lot of F2P's is that they are actually criticizing the ones who pay a lot. Jealousy? Pure salt? Stupidness? Anyway, that's what makes most of them silly to my eyes.
Just to say, this thread is not for hating the f2p players.
But just didn't get this proudness of not paying when playing a good game developed by people that are working hard for it. I did pre-order TGT and for me it's like buying any other expension for any other game I like.
I've put about $25 in on the US server and am considering doing the $50 preorder deal. I can craft most of what I want to play several t1 decks, sometimes with an occasional substitution. It's easy mode most of the time grinding ladder with whatever class I happen to have a quest for, etc.
I'm completely F2P on Europe though and I started that account much later. It's much harder given that my card pool is so much smaller and I don't stick to a single deck archetype. It's painful. I lose far more often there. But it's also more satisfying when you beat someone's t1 or t2 deck with River Crocolisks and Stormwind Champions.
Also, people like to brag and will often find any excuse.
I don't think being F2P is something to be proud of, nor is buying packs with real money. Heck, even if you donate 1 million dollars to Blizzard without asking for anything in return, that's not something to be proud of.
People should be proud of how they contribute to the society and mankind, not for playing a freaking game or achieving some make believe goal in a digital world.
I bought Naxxramas and Blackrock for real money, also for the reasons you listed.
I take pride in gaining whole card collection by gold however, as its a "journey not the goal" that matters for me, and I can feel that everything I have is the result of my dedication.
I personally do not like F2Pers either. They're more likely to run the cancerous and flat out annoying decks, because they're too dust poor for anything better until they've grinded for months with face hunter. I've personally spent around $200 on cards, which isn't a lot considering I've been playing for about 15 months and it's the only game I really play. If you are F2P and play enough to compete to Legend ranks, then you obviously like the game and spend a lot of time with it, why not pay people who make it possible? Also, if you're over 18 and have enough time to play this game as a F2Per and hit Legend, how about you move out of your parent's house and get a job? No gainfully employed adult should be playing this as F2P, do you like to work for free?
I'm not a psychologist, but this is how I've always thought of it:
The vocal F2P player = Wants others to perceive him as "good" at the game or as an "honorable" person. I find that this player also attempts to cast himself as superior to players that pay for cards.
The quiet F2P player = Takes pride in playing within a set of self-constructed rules.
I think the same ideas apply to conversations about "net-decking."
For some I would imagine it is a challenge to be successful as a ftp. For others they are forced into it because of economical reason. I find the latter are more vocal about hating on folks who pay to buy packs. Then lie to themselves about their reasons (petty jealousy) and lash out at Blizzard for trying to pay their employees well and for running a business in general.
;) At any rate, it takes all kinds of people to make the world go around. :)
Not sure I can say I'm proud to be F2P or not. I do actually encourage people to spend money on the hobbies they enjoy. I know I've spent my fair share of cash on games in general and I don't intend to stop any time soon.
That being said, I also like the idea that being F2P can be considered a challenge. I find it rather enjoyable to work at remaining competitive through gold packs and arena runs, trying to get as much value as I can and crafting the necessary cards I need for the decks I want to build. It adds an element to the game that I find rewarding. I may not get the instant gratification of being able to open 50 packs and then immediately be able to jump into some games with some new legendaries, but at the same time I also get a different feeling of satisfaction when I just went 11 wins in an arena and then I'm rewarded with 310 gold and a pack with 2 rares and an epic.
In short, to each their own. Play the game the way that makes you have fun with it!
I only play this game casually so I never really feel the need to actually buy packs (although I did buy naxx when I started because I'm not gonna waste hours of my time grinding when I can just "put in" a couple hours of actual work). So to be honest, whether you're f2p or not, it doesn't really matter. It just shows people where your priorities lie/how into the game you actually are. And that's probably about it

Whatever your job is, i doubt you are happy with it, seeing as every single post you make is full of vitriol.

If you are doing things 10 times harder than others, you need some way to justify it. And you can somehow allways justify things with pride ;)

Maybe buy just ten Packs, as a gratuity for all the hard work Blizzard puts into this game.

I make a decent amount of money and I like being able to play whatever idiot deck idea I've come up with, so I don't mind paying.
At the same time, being able to make legend with a comparatively limited card pool, that's fine too, isn't it?
Play the game how you want, and let them play how they want.
For some I would imagine it is a challenge to be successful as a ftp. For others they are forced into it because of economical reason. You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.
Not sure I can say I'm proud to be F2P or not. I do actually encourage people to spend money on the hobbies they enjoy. I know I've spent my fair share of cash on games in general and I don't intend to stop any time soon.

I think everyone is going crazy there haha!
