My personal turning point was Ashes of Outland. I had become disillusioned with standard. I took my first lengthy break from the game. I wasn't sure if I would return, or if I did for very long despite having a large & healthy collection.
Thankfully we got Duels which saved my interest in Hearthstone. Duels has been my main mode ever since and the reason I keep this game installed.
Roughly around the time Demon Hunter came out. I don't think it was DH itself that was the problem, but it feels like the game changed around then. Or at least, that's when it hit me. Probably started earlier, perhaps with Rise of Shadows. DH was so clearly based on a lot of cards which had overtuned power levels that needed to be taken down a bit, and there were eventually nerfs, but the game didn't feel quite the same.
Post Stormwind Questline... yeah, things have gotten way worse. The SW Quests create really repetitive and dull gameplay, with each game playing out like the others. I'm glad that Genn and Baku rotated out a year early, and I really feel like that should be the case with the questlines.
To me HS was always frustrating to try and compete. Even in classic, after 3-4 months since the Open beta people stopped playing that much control and minion trade and started playing full charge hunters, rogues and even weapon warriors. Only Paladin could survive and otk mage. As a player who played more or less all the metas except maybe rastakhan, I can say that this year has been the best to me. All classes had control, aggro and combo/otk decks. If you want to have more counters and avoid some of the stale ranks ofc you can play wild and there things change drastically. I am doing exceptionally well with various reno decks, murloc shaman, pure paladin. Will you face more pirate warrior there and shudderwock shaman? yes. Do you have options because of all these expansions available to you? Hell yeah. You just need to understand what people play and build counter decks. Anyway, I think hs as a whole is better now than what it was in the past. Any of the veterans remember GvG bullshit when it came out... :)
I think it was when ben brode quit, like after gadgetzen the expansions became worse and worse.
So tired of hearing this argument. Objectively looking at some of the expansions Ben was responsible for, we've had far worse metas than we have now. Ben Brode wasn't some kind of holy grail in Hearthstone's development but was rather a man with his own beliefs for what the game should be. The same goes for the team now. Is the game perfect? No. But can you really make a game like Hearthstone perfect, to everyone's subjective opinions? No.
What strikes me as even more incomprehensible, is why someone would play a game they no longer think is fun or interesting. If you want to keep playing but are unsure of the direction, take a break and hop back in when the game is more to your liking.
NO! If u think that Ben's time gave bad gameplays u're tottally wrong and doesn't had the intelligence required to play this game before this Autoplaystone that we see nowadays and money grab metas. Old hearthstone required more IQ to play, was more like Magic in the early times, more brain; less broken shit. Now is just broken shit; no brain games. Autoplaystone 2022
When Blizz sold me 130€ pre-order for mercenaries, without fixing it. Then I started feeling really screwed.
This was for me the biggest turning point. If the game company that I pay in order to have fun fuck me it is not fun anymore.
Lol that was 100% your own fault for pre-purchasing content u knew nothing about. U essentially bought a promise that wasnt at ur personnel subjectif standard.
Sorry but no. Has HS duplicate protection? Pity timer? Use of the resources that we don't need with dust?
Yes. So why Mercenaries should not have them?
I purchased because I had faith in the games of the company that I am playing since I am kid. You know how much is 130€? The cost of 3 Triple A. It is a lot in the game industry. What Blizz offers us for this price? Shit. So how can you say that this is a consumer's fault? This a company policy to screw consumers. My turning point.
Blizz changed. This was not acceptable before. They are thieves now.
Agree, ppl still defend them calling up on customer's fault tsk tsk tsk sad
I personally didn't like him too much. But I have to admit that after him the game went in shit. Always always down in quality. HS was far better with Brode. We had the biggest idea with him.
You must like not getting balance changes for 6 months when the meta is stale and boring. I so glad he left. Game is getting proper blanching and more info is being given to community. I am not sure u eyes are open but I suggest u open them and see how much better it is now.
Ben brode you would not be getting any balance changes as much as you are getting now.
yes but frequent balance changes do not seem healthy for me. a balance change is done when someting is wrong and thought unheathy for the game. Therefore, Frequent balance changes = bad initial design and more unfair/unfun meta
also frequent balance changes control the sells made. If you print broken shit people would wanna buy them to perform better. However, after the sales are done, you can make the card less powerful and just give the people (who maybe even paid with real money) a refund, in terms of in game currency. Thus, Frequent balance changes = STONKS for the company

Um so u like stale meta I see same boring decks for 6 months b4 he nerf anything.
Before the kazakusan and the previous two nerfs i saw lots of decks at least to D5 (dont have time or patience to go higher most of the time). Mage had mozaki, questline, hero power, big spell and the standard value with the ingites. Shaman had, elementals aggro and control, burst, bolnar etc etc Warlock had owls, questline, zoo (which still works great and super cheap), druid had beast and normal ramp, rogue had poison, thief, secret, questline. other classes had stuff too, I am just bored of going over everything. How many decks do you want per rotation? Anyway, to me it has been fun.
Edit: Sorry, I must be sleepy. Thought your response was for my message :D haha

he's talking about consumer rights...read again and try to interpret ;)
People talk about Mr Smite, which was obviously a garbage design decision. The devs literally justified getting rid of Leeroy by saying charge was unhealthy for the game, then they printed Smite...
But, in my opinion, the game really went downhill when created cards became a thing. Why? Because you can no longer play around your opponents hand, which was the main area for skill expression in Hearthstone. Take that away and the game just becomes an RNG fiesta.

I agree that with him balance changes were a mess. But HS were in the best situation (as public) with him. Sure time is on his side. Since HS is becoming older a lot of people stop this game due to age. Another consideration is the ideas. I don't know you, but for me, we had the best idea with him. After him, the idea in HS become practically nothing.
HS was not perfect with Brode. But I liked it more.
And I also agree with ArcyroX. Too frequent balances are not good for the game. They are costly for the players. And it is also a symptom of bad design.
Game is absolute shit right now. Ramp Druid, Freeze Shaman, Poison Rogue, Mozaki Mage. Each deck is designed to eliminate any board interaction between you and your opponent, or just allow you to mana cheat your way to an early victory. The development team is awful and has been for years. They need some new blood. People willing to admit, "We've done a shit job for a long time and something needs to change." I'm not too optimistic.
Whispers of the old gods came out which was one of the best metas, then it was followed by karazhan which wasnt that bad, but literally made the game worse and added nothing. All the new cards it added either fit best in decks that were already tier 1 and played to death, or were bad/ too boring to build a meme deck around. Then mean streets of gadgetzhan came out which was god awful. Un goro was good, but frozen throne was sooooo bad, and kobolds and catacombs was even worse to the point where they literally ruined 2 years of HS. Thats when HS went downhill for me.
However, they had a lot of good stuff since. Saviors of Uldum was the best set they ever made imo and that meta was ridiculously fun. Rise of shadows was good too. Descent of dragons was dog shit, but still decently fun and a hell of a lot better than any meta in the year of the raven. When they added DH to the game, I had been playing a lot of WoW and HATED demon hunters in WoW and the DH class in hearthstone was sooooo freaking cancer when it was first released, BUT since darkmoon faire, the class has grown on me and is now one of my favorite classes. I'm in the minority where I actually really enjoyed stormwind. Barrens was a snooze fest. The main reason why I loved stormwind was because most of the legendaries werent good or needed so deck building was really cheap. Alterac was the opposite, but everyone loves that one for some reason... I think HS has a bright future as long as they stop making the best cards epics and legendaries or make packs contain 8 cards ffs. Legends of Runeterra costs like 1/100 as much as this game and you get mostly the same experience. I have EVERY card in that game and I havent spent any money on it and I dont even play it that much. LITERALLY EVERY CARD

That doesn't sound like much of a business model.

Ahaha yes. But I think that we are not in two only. Blizz did a very dirty thing.
lol kinda ironic with your profile pic :D

I think the rotation in a few days will solve a lot of what you're complaining about. At least I hope so.
