And I for one am very hyped! In fact how come there is not more hype for Classic? Let's change that shall we ;)
I am kind of tired of the randomness of the game now, infinite values, especially tired of the Discover mechanic which has kind of totally overtaken Hearthstone. I am looking forward to more down to earth games of Classic. I also like that the power level was lower, it seems to me also that the plays were a lot more tactical then. Maybe a lot of that is rose tinted glasses but hey nostalgia is a powerful drug so bring it on :D
Do you guys think the meta is solved? Will it just be wallet warrior, ramp druid, burn mage, miracle rogue, handlock and face hunter to annoy them all over again? I think it will start that way probably, people are nostalgic for those decks and with the possible exception of face hunter I am too. I especially wanna try miracle rogue, but all of those popular archetypes were too expensive for my card collection then so now I get a second chance to try them all out. BUT, has there been some brainiac out there thinking about this since Classic was announced, trying to come up with a meta breaking new deck? Well probably, lots of people out there :D Not sure they can succeed though, millions played then and if this groundbreaking deck was not found then it probably won't now. Still would be fun if even this settled meta was shaken up by some clever invention, maybe even now waiting in the wings.
Finally even though it hasn't even started yet, thoughts on the future. Should Naxxramas be eventually introduced? Should Classic instead get its own mini-sets? Some card balancing? I like all of those options since being eternally the same might get old, BUT I think if those are added pure Classic should be preserved. Kind of like they are doing now for WoW Classic come to think of it.
I don't care if the meta is already solved. I missed the first year of HS and I'm quite hyped for classic. I've stopped playing HS, cause it's just time and money eater if you want to have most of the decks every expansion. So for me classic will be just a few games every day just 4fun and done.

Yes not having to be on a constant card treadmill will be a huge appeal. Also for the first time ever I have an almost complete collection so I can play any deck I want really, switching to counter the momentary meta, teching or just building the kind of fun decks you always want to build but realizing they would be Tier 2 or 3 you just can't spare the dust. It promises to be very chill, if quite static as well.
@Krishno_NL good question, I was only able to find Kolento's Miracle Rogue which is arguably the top deck of this meta:
Finding good examples of others proved difficult so maybe someone who is better at finding decks can do it instead. However in general you had ramp druid using ramp cards to get to high many quickly and play powerful legendaries and their ancient tree buddies, think it usually ran one copy of FoN+SR combo, note FoN trees charged back then. Handlock which had a huge hand and played giants with taunt givers for power, also ran a combo. Control warrior just controlled, had big beefy minions and tons of armor and removal. Burn mage turtled with freezes and life saving secrets while burning your face with spells and chargers. Face hunter... is just face hunter.
Anyway we are so close, not sure when it launches today but THE END IS COMING. Weird that the season begins on the 30th of March, would that mean it lasts for only two days, seems highly exploitable. Probably the season will just last from late March to May, still something to ponder. Until the 30th I am guessing only Casual Classic will be available...
There is crazy RNG and infinite value in classic too. I do agree that plays were more tactical and meaningful back then.
There was much less infinite value in Classic. An unhandled Ysera or Jaraxxus were as far as it went, and both were slow (one extra big of value per turn), predictable (1 of 5 dream cards, or a 6/6 hero power) and came late (9 mana). Grind Midrange Paladin had an advantage against Warriors because of its Hero Power, a concept that has been entirely forgotten. Nothing else even compared, and few decks ran either of those cards. It was a lot more card-for-card, or about efficiently using burn resources. RNG decided draw and decided a few early game board engages (storm, knife juggler) but wasn't overbearing, and the ranges were tighter. The concept of "one card plays other cards" was very, very rare if at all there. No massive 8-10 that replay all of x card you've played. No soularians. No discover.
I’m freaking over the moon about Classic coming out today. I started playing during beta and Hearthstone drew me in with its simplistic charm but yet diverse class roster. Yes there is better classes then others but it made it feel extra rewarding getting those high ranks with those less popular classes. I’ve already started brewing up decks and I can’t wait for it to be released. I’ve already accepted my fate that my dust will disappear when I play classic more. haha
This is definitely one of the best decisions Blizzard has made for hearthstone in a while and wish Leeroy was 5 mana but we shall survive xD
Classic was within the better part of a year essentially the same format of decks. But there was a pretty wide variety. No single deck really shined as the best, and so there's always going to be a variety of options to climb. It being an incredibly cheap and permanent mode also helps that.
The problem after a few months is just that nothing will change. Also no balance. A tier 1 deck will forever be tier 1.
They will add Naix and GvG and do balance if they see the mode is well loved. They basically said that they will wait and see how the mode go before planning for more

Even Goblins v Gnomes, which was regarded as a bit of an RNG fiesta when it released, is tame compared to what we have now. I never thought I would be longing to return to the days of Piloted Shredder but here I am.
I’m sure the early Trolden videos would be pretty mundane viewing now, but for anyone who doesn’t fully understand the impact of RNG i’m sure they would highlight a lot.

Cards like Starving buzzard and Knifejuggler could go sort of infinite too if left unchecked.
No need to explain the classic format to me, I was there lol ! And I agree with you for the most part.
And there's Tracking that discovers not only a card, but a card from your deck.
I'm just saying, everything we hate was already there, it was just dormant.
Classic is Classic. It is preserved. They even changed everything back to original. They cant add new things because then they need to change them again. Like I said: no changes. Enjoy it as long as you want.

"... but not less than (1)" is needed now more than ever!
Personally, I wouldnt mind going up to GvG in classic in due time (I am going to enjoy the meta while we have it haha) but after that it wouldnt really feel like a "classic" format. I do remember the good old days of Black Rock Mountain but after GvG, I might as well play wild.

That's what they said about classic WoW at first, now it's just Back to the Future WoW, in a decade Classic WoW will be launching shadowlands it's hilarious.
I suspect the same thing will happen to classic hearthstone, they will start adding balance changes and new expansions to keep things fresh because you can't keep a game alive on nostalgia alone. People who are hyped about classic HS today, will be bored to death in 2 months to constantly face the same 2 decks with no RNG and incredible winrate and consistency.
I was going to make this thread, but OP beat me to it :-)
I've been playing since vanilla HS and played a lot until early 2018. Since then I've barely logged on. Partly because the game became a randomly generated clown fiesta. Partly because Blizzard didn't uphold their promise we'd be able to play with our previously acquired cards. Technically we could play with them ofc, but the reality was that old cards got nerfed into the ground and new cards got powercrept dramatically meaning your old cards and decks were rendered unplayable (unless you'd be happy with something like a 10% winrate).
I didn't expect to ever return "properly", but the news about classic mode and reverting old nerfs has got me very excited for this game for the first time in many years. There's obviously nostalgia involved, but the classic mode is so much more. It's getting a brand new (old) game. Current Hearthstone is nothing but a glorified slot machine imho. You press play and spectate as the game decide the outcome via 1 gazillion randomly generated effects. Classic is a game were your decisions matter and you can influence the outcome of the game. It may be simpler, but you get to actually play the game. If you weren't around at the time you're in for a treat!
As for decks I believe OP missed at least 2 important ones + got the name wrong for 1. Namely Combo Druid, Zoo and Freeze Mage.
I'm pretty sure they'll have to eventually add expansions, but I hope they leave it be for a long time. I know this will keep me entertained for quite some time :-)

When is the first day we can play classic?
To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffer!
25 of march, so in 2 days :)
Favorite Cards: 1. Lord Jaraxxus | 2. Malygos| 3. Edwin VanCleef | 4. Zephrys the Great| 5. Deathwing
Buzzard hunters and wallet warriors all round, will still be fun though.
Any decklists from the past?

Playing classic was almost like playing chess.
No, it wasn't, lol, but it was fun. :P
