I like Hearthstone and I love the fact that they took full advantage of the fact that the game is digital through card geberation, damage done randomly to different targets, etc. The problem that I have is the fact that they took this RNG that makes the game special to a whole new level. There are 3 classes that have 90% of their late game be random card geberation (mage, priest and warlock).
A solution I thought about is nerfing some of this card generation by making it discovery but cost more (Galakrond priest hero power to cost 3 and discover a priest card, or maybe cost 2 but discovers priest cards that cost 4 or less), or Reno casts random mage spells, or spells that cost 4 or less. Because right now you feel really frustrated a lot of times when losing to any of these classes.
Idk man. While sometimes RNG really makes me furious, I think its one of the things that makes Hearthstone what it is. I dont have any idea about competitiveness, but who doesnt love to play a Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron?
I'm not talking about competitiveness, but the fact that these classes seem to be a bit too reliant on RNG. I love the box too, but Reno is all RNG, the prime minion is also casting random spells. Some randomness is really good, because it makes the game less repetitive, but sometimes it seems to go overboard.
They indeed do. But hey, i dont know bout you, im enjoyin it ^^
It doesn't matter if you are enjoying it or not, only matters the fact this company doesn't know what being consistant means anymore (and no, I'm not talking only about RNG). I would enjoy a lot playing an official porn version of Hearthstone, but that doesn't mean it would be the right thing to do considering people of all ages play this game.
Vin Shane Diesel as the main Warrior Hero would be awesome, don't you think so? XD

The RNG is both fun and frustrating. On one hand you get loads of effects and abilities that couldn't be done without it. On the other hand, every game is decided by RNG and a rigged system.
The players aren't in control of the outcome, the game is. We are just along for the ride, which again is both a blessing and a curse depending on what you want out of the game.

Yeah, I agree. Taking something to extremes is usually not a good thing.
I think Discover might be the worst mechanics they ever introduced.
What? That's nonsense. The game had RNG before Discover. Discover just made certain cards way more consistent which reduced the absurdity of gameplay variability.

I don't think Discover is that bad but it's still random generation. Discover adding consistency to random generation isn't always a good thing. Galakrond, the Unspeakable would become a nightmare if he had discover. Priest would always be able to hand pick any of the best minions and it would be insanely difficult to deal with him as many of those minion provide insane value or good answers in the late game. One of the things that made Dr. Boom, Mad Genius so hard to deal with was his ability to hand pick his mechs from Discover which always provided him with immense value and consistent answers to anything the opponent played and thus he could just drag the game as long as possible. People really disliked that and he got nerfed. His nerf was reverted only when he was about to rotate as he isn't a big deal in Wild because the power level there is much higher. Discover isn't always positive and shouldn't be so prevalent in the game but it shouldn't be removed either.
But picking the best of three cards is way better than just... getting whatever usually. Both if you lose to it (they made a good choice) and if you win with it (you made a good choice).
The problem with discover & randomly generated effects is that the pools have way too much variety. The priest discover/random generation effects are a lot fairer because the pool doesn't have so many extremes. They're frustrating to play against because the priest can't really outright fail, as is the case with a lot of random/discover effects, but it's overall a better design. And something to aspire to, rather than malign.
Like the mage spell pool is godawful in that there are some EXTREME high rolls that can win you a game right then and there, and then some cards are just flat out DUDS (like Ancient Mysteries with no secrets in your deck). The mage secret pool should either only include certain things, specific to each card effect. Or there should be cards that just aren't included in those pools.
How can anyone enjoy extreme RNG like Box or Reno? Bunch of flashy animations, that cannot be controlled nor predicted, really gives you any satisfaction? After all, this is no different from a coin toss, except it takes a lot more time. And it doesn't bother you at all, when someone does this to you, taking away your well-deserved victory?
I'm not trying to be rude or arrogant, I just don't get it.

If you are talking about chicanavass' post, he clearly stated he likes such things, but is not totally ok with them. Or are you talking about the user MakeWarlockWinGamesAgain?
this is purely anecdotal but I find that RNG seldom ever has negative effect and that is completely contrary to the notion of arbitrary results. I say that as both a beneficiary and victim of RNG. I've seen both sides of the coin and so has everybody else--it's no secret that playing supposed "random" cards yields big benefits to the player. It's why so many use them--consistently--for their consistency in positive outcomes.
e.g. in arena earlier, this guy pulled two Deathwings (from azure explorer, back-to-back) of all the dragons in the pool. I'm not of the position that it is impossible but that is a serious outlier in the domain of probability. two consecutive board clears--because hearthstone; bear in mind he dumped his hand after playing the first one...in a draft deck.
I remember when old school yogg-saron was truly random and you'd pay a steep penalty almost equally as you would reap massive dividends. Their algorithm needs a legitimate revision and could definitely do with adding more mutators and sampling pools. Just sayin'... I don't think anybody takes the devs seriously in terms of their RNG deployment.
the current state of puzzlebox and solarian make playing against mage horrible. Any lead you build is going to trigger worse rng, it turns the game into a rigged slot machine and removes all pretense of skill.

Do you have any opinions regarding this topic?

I will say this. I love playing Yahtzee ... but I wouldn't like it nearly as much if somebody else was rolling the dice for me.
You used to be able to play around cards, i feel that in 2017+ Hearthstone that is barely possible there is just too much card generation.

RNG was super fun when the game was old. These days now, they are just really frustrating and not enjoyable.
The game is much faster that now the RNG decides the game in just a single turn... I absolutely remember the game wasn't like this.
I like elementals and totems.
