So basically I don't have many cards besides AoO and Classic, but I don't have the right ones to make powerful decks or adjust the ones I already have. I was trying to play today with pala and Gala shaman (the free deck I got with some adjustments, no evolvings) and literally only faced dh and priests. You already know dh's state and priests can completely out-value me.
I understand that's how ladder works and if I want to simply have fun, I'll have to play casual, but all the opponents I face in casual seem like really newbie players, making a lot of mistakes and finally defeating themselves. Basically, on ladder my decks aren't competitive enough (at least to have a ~50% wr against meta decks) and on casual I hate to roflstomp newcomers.
What can I do in order to have fun? I really want to play competitive and got something like 2,5k dust, maybe crafting a cheap deck is an option, but meta is still changing and I might be broke again without a guarantee of having a good deck. I really don't know what to do.
Nowadays, your best option is to play a different game.

Standard, Wild, and Classic player.
Losing to Sire Denathrius makes me not want to play this game anymore. The Sire Denathrius nerf makes me want to play this game again. Losing to Deathrattle Rogue makes me not want to play this game anymore. The Prince Renathal nerf makes me not want to play this game anymore.
but most if all you should learn how the decks you are facing often work and thatway you with time know what and when the opponent will play.
Also try wathing streamers play,it helps and just plain fun, I higly recoment watching trump and regiskillbin, in my opinion atleast they make fantastic content.
plus trump is just plain hillarious, he posted a video with him and pornactress mia malcova singing the song from aladin while playing the piano..Im not joking
How much gold do you have? Have you ever opened wild packs? If you haven’t, I’d suggest opening ten packs each of Un’Goro, Frozen Throne, and Kobolds and Catacombs. Wild is far more rewarding and fun than standard, and you won’t lose money every year when cards rotate. Un’Goro, Frozen Throne, and Kobolds are the best expansions in terms of legendaries, and the chance you’ll get a build around legendary is very high. Also download the Frozen Throne expansion and get the free death knight hero.
To be honest it really depends what you want. I like winning, but I don't care too much about ladder. As long as I am playing a deck that I enjoy with a positive winrate, I am happy.
I am a f2p player, started playing in Gadgetzan, but took a year and a half off at the end of boomsday. This is my second expansion back.
Because I currently have a pretty small standard collection, I turned to wild. There were several wild decks that were very cheap for me (secret mage, even shaman, cubelock). Secret mage just because it only has one legendary (which I have already), even shaman because it is also very cheap and I already had Genn, and Cubelock because I had played the standard version in Kobolds so there weren't very many cards to craft to play the wild list.
I played Cubelock and even shaman to legend (first time yay!) without spending more than like 5k dust total for both of those decks.
I don't have Vessina or The Storm Bringer, and even shaman is viable without them. Just add extra 4 mana 7/7s or the 4 mana 5/7 dragon instead. Tempostorm has the deck at 7.8k dust, and without these two legendaries it will only cost you 4.2k dust, which should be manageable. The bulk of that comes from Genn Greymane two Splitting Axe and two Sea Giant, which are 3.2k dust. Genn is probably one of the safest crafts you could ever have, and although I'm pretty sure even shaman is the only deck packing Sea Giant right now it has in the past had a place in zoo, and I wouldn't be surprised if it pops up in other decks over the years. Splitting Axe is key in standard totem shaman (also a good, cheap deck) so it's a pretty safe craft.
Anyway, my advice to you is to craft either even shaman or secret mage and play wild. I personally dislike secret mage, and really enjoy even shaman, so the choice was obvious there.
These decks are competitive, and you should be able to get better at the game while having a positive winrate and climbing through the wild ladder.
Also as a bonus low ranked wild is typically filled with meme decks and people completing quests, so it shouldn't be too hard for a newcomer such as yourself (if you got a free deck you can't have had your account for long, I'm assuming you haven't played in the past)
Spell druid is also really cheap in standard, so you could try that too.

I had played in the past a little, about 1 or 2 years ago, but I didn't open many packs. I was thinking about joining wild, but I was scared that I'd need a ton of cards from past expansions, I'll look for more info about deck posibilities in wild.
Tempo/aggro dh is a solid investment, blizzard wants dh to be good because it's new. Maybe with some variation but it will probably be good even if the meta shifts, and it's T1 right now and it will stay there until next expansion. It requires 2legendaries and 1epic and those will definitely see play in future.
Also spell druid is good and it only requires 2 epics. Someone say it's boring, but it actually takes some decision making and it's fun to do big swing turns with exotic mountseller or kaelthas.
If you don't want to craft anything at all, I would suggest you to try thief priest or thief rogue. They have a lot of cheap class cards to generate value/ steal cards from the opponent deck, discover stuff from other classes...and good class removals. Like today I played against a rogue with a deck like that, he was playing weird off meta stuff but he stomped me with value. I think you can be at least semicompetitive with a deck like this. Definitely better than some cheap paladin or shaman, sadly they are not in a good spot right now.

Play DH to earn gold and build towards crafting a deck you want, or drop a few $ if you don’t have the time for that.
Build a cheap deck that makes good progress is my advice. Use guides on disenchanting and what are must have cards.
follow some tutorials and watch streams. It's a grind all the way. Grind to ladder up and grind to build your collection.
It takes time
Play dragon hunter ir murloc paladin.
cheap decks that you can climb easy with.
but most if all you should learn how the decks you are facing often work and thatway you with time know what and when the opponent will play.

It might not be your cup of tea, but murloc shaman is a good budget archetype. I don't know how well it fares against DH though.

After 5 years of playing Hearthstone, I finally started playing other games, thanks Blizzard for the last expansion and the introduction of DH <3
