I like these changes a lot! The game should adress a wide audience of people. Sexism and violence (even if ever so slightly present) should disappear from the game. So gj blizzard there! Apart from that - the new artworks just look better in my opinion regardless of political stuff going on.
If there are "sexist" female characters in Blizz games, there are "sexist" male characters as well
Well that claim would put the burden of proof on you. I have never been turned on by any male character in Hearthstone so please do tell me which ones of them are being objectified in the game.
Eviscerate doesn't have blood anymore, as well as Deadly shot mild violence (the chest hit) and also Bite and Headcrack had blood in the old art. Succubus it's a word that anybody who looks for it in google involves demonic possession through sex, the same for the word "Mistress", both wearing a thong and showing a lot of skin, the same for the under-boob of the Harpy. The Secretkeeper it's a beautiful illustration but she is showing her butt, actually the but it's way too on focus and way too much underlined, so yeah... CHINA.
Wait wut? How is Headcrack being changed, but cards like Shadow Word: Pain and Shadow Word: Death can remain just as dark & demonic as they are...? Because they're shadow words...? They actually don't exist or...?
If you look closely, you'll see that Headcrack shows spurts of blood. They are editing the pictures that depict spurting blood. Personally, I could never tell what the picture was because it was so dark.
Additionally, the victim in the card is a skeleton, and skeletons cannot be depicted in China.
As for the changes in the sexy pictures: the only one I had a problem with previously was Secretkeeper. Her pose was deliberately sexual in a "come-and-get-it" way. The other ones were just standing around with their hot selves. The new pictures also show skin, just with more particular (i.e., more communistic) standards being applied. Midriffs are A-OK, apparently.
This thread hasn't been locked yet, as it should be fine to discuss changes to the game, and this includes changes in artwork.
That said, we also have members on this forum from all over the world, China included, so please can you try and refrain from making sweeping comments about people from specific countries in a negative light. I'd prefer to let the thread thrive if the discussion is fruitful and about the cards themselves.
Thanks Scorp
Hey Mod,
It's pretty commonly accepted these changes are coming from the Chinese government the comments about it aren't about the people of China but rather the about the insane laws the government makes companies such as blizzard follow and as such Blizzard should be criticized for and the Party should be considered involved in. The people have nothing to do with just like how if the Australian Government banned certain art and it effected the entire world.

Headcrack Had a little bit of blood in the OG Art.
That being said, is this where we put on the tinfoil hats and talk conspiracy theories now? Is it the card or the art on the card that wins the game? As a father of two teen daughters, yes, some of the female depictions are a little too catering to the male eye. First time I ever saw the Succubus card, I immediately thought, “Cool. Big boob demon in a thong.” So if Blizzard wants to tone down some of its gore and sexism for its female players then who am I to complain about it? Eviscerate will still function as intended whether there is blood on the card or not.
Dudes wanting to quit HS over stupid shit that has zero impact on game play I say good riddance.

Grammar is the difference between knowing your crap, and knowing you’re crap.
The old Warcraft RTS games had a lot of blood and I actually thought it was cool as a kid. These are just cards that you hardly even look at it. I don't see why Blizzard can't come upfront with their decision of changing cards and Jaina's portrait. The only real reason I see them doing this is to make it more appealing to China or kid-friendlier for a younger audience.
I do hate that they completely removed the succubus, which is a very iconic warlock pet. The Felstalker should have been a new classic card or something, filling in the gap of early gameish warlock demons.
Blizzard is in the business of making money. And people are incredulous over it. Is funny.
Makes sense, why the fuck would the average person put Blizzard financials interests above their own invested interest in the game.

Can someone clue me in, why are they changing cards becauce of the asian market?
It’s not just because of any one thing. The newfound outlook on sexism and violence in America can be playing just as much of a part on the change as any request a foreign government has made. Apparently some players have grown rather fond of their boobs and blood cards. Mind you, the art change will have zero effect on game play.

It seems you didn`t understand my argument. I say there is no sexist characters in HS. But if someone claims there are sexist female characters, I want an explanation why these characters should be sexist and why the criteria which make these characters sexist don`t aplly to male characters as well.
Blizzard is in the business of making money. And people are incredulous over it. Is funny.
Of course, because there was a time were it seemed like Blizzard didn`t only care about all the possible money but also a bit about "making art" too. Do you even remember Blizz was the company which made Diablo 1 back then? Or think about how "brutal" Star Craft 1 was. Blizz had a "tradition" for being some kind of dark and the playerbase liked it. And today there are a lot of people who miss "the old dark Blizz" and therefor don`t like when Blizz censor themself more and more.
Blizzard should make a special stream lessons or youtube videos in which they explain the the only way hs should be played is with supa dupa 1000 IQ control/combo homebrewed decks and 30 minutes long match is a minimum time period that proves you're not braindead blah blah something etc.
This isn’t Pokémon or YuGiOh. It’s supposed to be (at least slightly) more mature. Nothing was really overtly sexual, not even Secretkeeper. I’m excited for the next expansion but these changes that cater to, as someone else has already stated brilliantly, the soccer mom countries, bum me out.

Because Blizzards ability to continually gain revenue gives these people the ability to stay invested in their game. Simple economics.
Whether people like it or not, special interest groups can affect the bottom line of a business. So if Blizzard has to make a couple customers mad for the greater good of the majority of their customers, then that is just how it goes.

In other news, it is "looking for reasons to be upset" that brings about these changes in the first place, not the response to the changes.
In other other news, objectification and sexism are NOT synonyms and one is NOT a subcategory of the other.
All of the above serve to illustrate the undeniable truth that folks find power in the buzzwords without ever understanding what they mean.
But I will compliment the new mod staff; there's no way this thread got to three pages 2 months ago.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.

at least, the new artworks are better
Good thing I don't particularly care. New art is also refreshing, so that's cool.
There will inevitably be people outraged over the "PC" culture though in their need to be edgy. People will find reasons to be upset.
Not Asian, China. This should clear things up https://www.pcgamesn.com/fortnite/fortnite-china-ban even games that tencent (Chinas biggest government sponsored corporation with over 50% of the market) aren't safe, even fortnite has been reported as having 'Blood and gore, vulgar content', I'm sure if you've ever seen the game it's practically cartoon levels of violence https://fortniteintel.com/fortnite-reportedly-banned-in-china-by-the-chinese-government/8542/
China is a massive emerging market for mobile games and as such their government has a big sway on what is acceptable.
