Both need to be a part of the equation for Hearthstone to exist as well as retain interest for the players. Blizzard needs to sell cards and they are as expensive as they are. Both pre-purchase sets are up there in terms of cost for what you are getting. You can buy whole new release games, at times, for less money.
Not everyone pays in to get the pre-purchase sets and they save their gold (if they are smart) and end up getting lots of packs without spending a dime. If Heartstone didn't have a F2P option then the cost would be dramatically lower for the sets and even for individual card packs. Everyone has to buy packs and sets so they could have lower priced cards and make more money, when it comes to it. The ones who purchase packs and pre-purchase sets are paying for the opportunity for F2P players to play the game and have the option for them to buy packs with gold. They are riding on your money spent.
But without the F2P players there wouldn't be enough players to create a dynamic and active Heartstone community so they are needed otherwise there would be long waits for new matches and players would tire of that wait and leave for greener pastures. The P2W players are paying for is that guarantee that there will always be someone to play against.
One side needs the other and that is a model that won't change as Hearthstone couldn't exist without having both models present in the game and remain as popular as it is.
Sad, but true. But I would want at least to introduce more paid skins, card back and other cosmetics and lower the price of pre-order. 50 euro is a bit much for me, as my currency is around 4,5 times less worth than it and I don't have that well paid job. I can manage to pre-order 1-2 times a year with saved money. But this is Just selfish wish :P
Why are people allways misusing the term P2W? Do you know what it means if something is P2W? It means people who pay have an advantage in gameplay against F2P players. Like items that boost your character stats which is only available by buying for real money.
A F2P player can get the same deck as a paying player. There is no limitation. It would be P2W if you could buy something like a Prince Keleseth buff for 1$ a game or something like this.
The only fitting categorie for Hearthstone would be P2P, since there is almost no way for a F2P player to have access to all the cards and with this all decks.
Except its not P2P either. As its F2P. Free to download and doesn't cost anything to play. At all. So that's wrong as well.
I kind of agree with the OP. Those that pay for thier cards keep those that don't in a game and those that don't pay keep those that do with enough opponents to keep it interesting.
If you go too far either way (Artifact) it goes wrong.
It's difficult to parse the English of the OP, but F2P is a very viable method of play.
I have a secondary account used primarily for Arena that has never had a cent spent on it, and yet I could craft any 4 standard or wild decks I would like to play on it. Given that I spend a very small minority of play time on that account, it is clearly possible to stay current with standard if you put some time into it.
The desirable relationship between time and money in a digital card game is that money should save you time and time should save you money. This describes HS quite well.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Nothing you've said excuses the disgusting price hike that took place way back whenever it was. The amount of money I'd be up right now were I not paying an extra £12 for each batch of 60 packs I buy. Literal daylight robbery, =/
Extra £12 is less than pocket change, especially for 60 packs but sure, literal robbery

I think there's an obnoxiously stubborn notion that this game is somehow Pay 2 win and not Free 2 Play friendly. Both are horribly false. There's no Pay 2 Win so much as there is Pay 2 have options. Doesn't matter how much you spend, you can still get your ass handed to you by some F2P zoo deck. On the flip side this game is really easy to play for free. Just dicking around since last expansion I've saved up over 5k gold and that's with missing probably a month's worth of quests give or take and using some gold on the last expansion. You can put next to nothing time wise into this game and have easily enough gold for 70-80 packs every expansion which gives you some solid options. It's even easier if you're like me and you don't play wild. Every rotation is a huge dust party for you. Get your free pack every week from Tavern Brawl. The free packs they give out randomly. On top of that Whizbang is a thing and that's 18 decks for the price of one legendary. A buddy of mine barely plays the game much but I went through his collection and thinned out the garbage and crafted golden whizbang for him and he has a blast. This game has a lot of F2P options, people just like to complain.

To combat players who are more knowledgable or more skilled you need a full collection with multiple meta decks to experience the game on that high (highest possibly) level. Only way to do this is with money...so yes TECHNICALLY the game is F2P (I've been F2P since Mean Streets), but it's completely disingenuous to say you don't need to pony up big funds to complete multiple meta decks...a top player can play 1 deck to climb exclusively but that is not how it is done. Fighting the meta is how and why the ladder is competitive, and this is entirely due to players being able to switch to vastly different archetypes for matchup variance.
tl;dr If you want to fight the meta like EVERY SINGLE SERIOUS PLAYER DOES, you have to spend money because you will never have enough to complete even half the decks you'll need...people need to stop the polemic mongering and be upfront with how this game actually functions, especially and specifically at high levels...the meta for this game is shaped BECAUSE of this high level play, if affects everything and everyone. That something is possible (being competitive while using 1 deck exclusively) does not mean it's wise or reflective of how reality works.

No, you don't need a full collection. There are always 2-3 tier one decks. You go in, as a new player, you gather dust and you make one that you like. You play it and slowly accumulate gold for shit decks that ''meta combating snowflakes'' like so much. There, done.
I don't know where you get the P2W from? Buying packs with money doesn't give you an edge or wins a match for you. It simply allow you to play with more cards, but everybody can craft the needed cards or be lucky enough to open the ones they need from gold packs.
We need to stop using the term P2W in the Hearthstone community. It should rather be "Pay to collect".
ya i agree with you, this games F2P design has failed.
i have stopped spending money on this game and mostly use old sets since iam in wild.
and dont be surprised if the nerds on this forum rage at you. if someone didnt like this games monetization, they probably quit the game and are not on this forum.
So the players on this forum are the ones that defend the game no matter what.cause they dont understand if F2P players go, the game will die. like HOTS .

Well, the F2P design obviously hasn't failed when there still are plenty of people here, meaning that they haven't quit the game :P
It is not a F2P fail. Plenty of users who QQ about F2P being unfriendly also state that they play 3-4 games a day. No wonder that you can't build up your collection.

Why the ''sky is blue'' type of thread?

As are most of the posts started on here. It's all useless thoughts being shared. Thanks for sharing yours.

I throw in 500 euro’s a year so 10 others can continue F2P. No worries, i am happy to.
This game is F2P, what's the point of thread?
If they didnt have free to play, the game would have flopped hard and called pay to win
If you have a deck idea might as well go full ham on it.
