Well, I personally, disenchant stuff only when I need that dust in order to craft something I want to play. Because it's always sweet if a card gets nerfed and you happen to have 9+ of it, even if it's just a lousy Bonemare ;).

It all depends on if the card is nerfed by Blizzard. If that happens you can disenchant for full value. With extra cards you will get more dust. But if you need to disenchant to craft cards for a deck, its likely better for you to build the deck rather than wait on a future nerf that may not happen.
Cards that see a lot of play I tend to keep just in case the nerf hammer comes down (the obvious ones like Call to Arms, and even cards that are just heavily used like Tar Creeper because you never know). I only dust cards when I need the dust as well. When I do dust, I stick to cards that you can fairly certain will never see balance changes (Stegodon as a random example)
Speculating on possible nerfs only makes sense if you already have a good collection. (But if you have a good collection, why are you being so greedy about dust?)
If you are still building your collection, you should go ahead and dust all your extras, including golden copies. Only keep a golden card if you don't have two normal ones.
Of course, if you LIKE golden cards, more power to you!

I always disenchant extras that are non-golden. I keep all Golden cards, even if it is for a class I don't play, as they are just so neat looking to me personally. I also like to insure my collection stays neat and organized as I am way to OCD about it. I will often go through my collection from beginning to end to insure I have only two copies of a card. lol.
Well I just let the system dust dupes. I then use the filter "extra" and if I have say two regular copies and 1 golden I then dust 1 regular and keep the golden and 1 regular. That way I always build my dust but have 2 of each and those sweet sweet goldens.
Only reason not to is if you think a card will be nerfed. Trouble with doing this is losing access to mass disenchanting extras, so DE’ing becomes a pain in the ass.
Personally, I always just hit the button, disenchant extras. I guess it's probably not too bad of an idea to hold off on a new set for a little while, there may be some Bonemare and Corridor Creeper that get the nerf bat pretty quickly, but it never seemed worth the effort to hold off from just hitting the button.

This sounds like a nice lazy option. I can relate to it!

This is a prime example of why I don't hit the button. My golden Corridor Creeper turned into a free legendary ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But when new to the game, I understand the need to get dust more immediately.
There's really no true downside. You only need 2 copies to play, and blizzard does not nerf cards often at all, so for a player with less cards waiting for nerfs is a waste of your time unless something is obviously going to be nerfed or blizzard hints at/acknowledges it.
Personally i always hit the disenchant all duplicates button, and when i want a bit more dust i can type 'extra' in the search field and it will show all cards you have more than two copies of still (because you can have 2 normal and 2 gold copies, which is 4). The auto disenchant won't go that deep, it doesn't take into account the total of normal + gold, only >2 of them individually. Unless you really like gold cards, disenchanting them is probably the best source of dust. Assuming you have two normal copies already that is.
I have seen people go back and forth on this but I don't see the downside of disenchanting my dupes? Am I missing the point?
Firstly, let's split this between two situations: dusting to craft other cards and dusting and holding the dust.
For the former: no there's no reason to NOT dust dupes in order to craft other cards, flat. Just about everyone talking about NOT dusting is NOT talking about this situation.
About the latter: Well, it's like this: both dust and duplicates do nothing for you if you aren't actually crafting the cards. A spare epic and 100 dust is exactly the same thing... EXCEPT for nerfings.
If a card gets nerfed you get the full value of the card. Now this isn't common but it's still noteworthy. If you had, say, a 3rd Corridor Creeper a while back then that was 100 dust to you. If you dusted it before the nerf, it would still be 100 dust. If you held it and found out that it was nerfed, you would've gotten the full 400 dust instead.
Holding duplicates is sort of like leaving things in the bank. It doesn't harm you to leave it there as you can always dust it when you need to craft something. Meanwhile, if it somehow becomes nerfed you can suddenly dust all o fthe duplicates for maximum value. There are folks who have held 9+ of a copy of a card that got nerfed and got the full value off of ALL of them.
So short of it is: if you need the dust RIGHT NOW go ahead. If you don't then might as well let it sit until you do just in case.
I keep all my dupes until I need dust this has gained me a few thousand bonus dust from nerfs in the past. When I do need dust I just filter for extra and dust cards I am very confident wont be nerfed. Also on standard cycle I dust all extras from rotating sets because Blizzard don't really nerf stuff already in wild. I always keep at least 2 of all wild cards though.

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
Ya but if I have 3 copies of a card don't I only need 2 for a deck?
keeping is only a consideration if you have 2 copies of a card but also have a golden copy or two golden copies

EDIT: decidedly I agree with everyone else, I don't care about dusting my extras or not I guess. that's my opinion lol

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
i only do it when i need reasonable quantities of dust.
