The Nightwell is the Highborne equivalent of the Sunwell. The Highborne of Suramar lived peacefully until the Legion's first invasion of Azeroth during the War of the Ancients. Their leader decided to use it's power to create a shield around Suramar, believing the the world would be overrun by the Demons. With the barrier up, the Nightborne could not see the moon and as thus had begun to lose their power. That is when they began to drink from the Nightwell. Drinking from the Nightwell caused them to become slightly deformed, becoming more slender and darker. The people became addicted and those that did not sate their addiction became Withered, a husk of their old self, maddened, with their only thoughts being how to feed their addiction.
The Nightborne are a sect of the Highborne (Night Elves and Blood Elves) that lived in Suramar and became deformed due to their creation of the shield around their city. During the Legion's third attack on Azeroth, the Demons convinced Elisande, their leader, that if she did not obey the Legion and let them live in the city that they would raze the city and kill all it's inhabitants. This caused her to side with the Demons and fight against her old kin. Thankfully, a rebellion had begun in the city, led by First Arcanist Thalysara. The rebellion would spread as the Demons began killing people on the streets until it had grown so strong that it attack the Nighthold, the center of the Suramar government and the home of the Nightwell. In the Nighthold, they killed Elisande and Gul'dan, servant of the Burning Legion, and destroyed the Nightwell. They did this because they discovered a new way to sate and ultimately heal their addiction, known as the Arcan'dor. The Arcan'dor was a magical tree that bared fruit that could heal the Nightborne and return them to their former selves.
Throughout the campaign, the Night Elves (Alliance) and the Blood Elves (Horde) helped Thalysara and her rebellion, but Tyrande, the leader of the Night Elves, continually said that she did not completely trust Thalysara and the rebellion and thought that they might eventually go back to their addiction and fight against the Alliance. Because of this, the Nightborne decided to side with the Horde and, specifically, the Blood Elves. Due to the Blood Elves former addiction to the arcane, the Nightborne felt that they would be able to form a closer bond with them than with the Night Elves.
During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, Kil'jaeden, the leader of the Burning Legion at the time, sent Gul'dan from the planet Draenor (an alternate reality created by Garrosh and the friendly neighborhood bronze dragon, Kairozdormu) to take control of Suramar. He took the body of Illidan Stormrage, the Betrayer, to the top of the Nighthold to attempt to use his body to summon Sargeras, the true leader and founder of the Burning Legion. Thankfully, adventurers defeated Elisande and managed to kill Gul'dan before he could summon Sargeras. The ceremony had managed to revive Illidan (he had been killed by adventurers at the top of the Black Temple) and he has been able to show the world that everything he had done was to save Azeroth and protect it from the Burning Legion. He was a vital part of the war and without him the Legion may have won.
Gul'dan (from the alternate reality. More on the one from Azeroth at a later date) was born in a village of which no one knows the name. He was born deformed and this caused the clan he had lived in to mock him and eventually throw him out. He decided to seek out the Throne of the Elements, a place where the elements of Draenor all collided, and attempted to become a Shaman. They did not accept him. But someone else did... the Burning Legion. He went back to his village with his new found powers and used them to destroy it, leaving no survivors. He managed to summon Archimonde, the Defiler, but the eredar was eventually defeated. Gul'dan was sent to Azeroth which lead to the events of the Nighthold.
Westfall was once a beautiful zone full of farmlands and green fields. Was being the imperative word. Westfall is the zone humans are meant to visit after leveling through Elwynn Forest, home of Stormwind, the capital of the Alliance. Edwin VanCleef was the leader of the Stonemasons, the guild who rebuilt Stormwind after it was destroyed by the orcs during the Second War. Sadly for them, Stormwind did not have the funds that they promised the Stonemasons. Because of this, Edwin led them to want to destroy the city of Stormwind. They knew that they did not have the numbers or power to take over Stormwind now so they left to Westfall. They took it over and made the Deadmines, a large cave near/under the town of Moonbrook, their home. They took over Westfall without much resistance (the zone was full of farmers). The Alliance had bigger problems and they chose not to deal with what the Stonemasons now called themselves, the Defias (Defias Ringleader is an example of one). The people fought off the Defias, forming the People's Militia. Eventually, the Alliance came and helped them take down Edwin. Westfall had been neglected for so long that the zone had been left broke and destroyed. But there were bigger problems to be dealt with. Namely, the Lich King. Even the people of Westfall knew they had to help and everyone in Westfall used the last of their money to help the war effort and they sent as many people as they could to support their hold on the Grizzly Hills. After the war against the Lich King was over, the citizens of Westfall realized that they had no more money.
They attempted to get the Alliance to help them but they could not. Again, they had bigger things to deal with (namely the return of Deathwing, the Aspect of Death). People had grown bitter with Stormwind and a mysterious figure seemed to be recruiting people into a gang... It wouldn't be until this "gang" attacked the only remaining Alliance stronghold in Westfall, Sentinel Hill, that the soliders found out that they were really the Defias, now lead by the secret daughter of Edwin, Vanessa Vancleef. Adventurers again adventured into the Deadmines and this time they made sure to finish the job.
For now we're just going to go over the recent story of Deathwing (we'll go over the rest at a later date). Recently, Deathwing has broken out of the Elemental Plane of Deepholm, home of the Stone Mother, Therezane, and the original home of the Earth Elementals. This caused an event that changed the world with few places not being affected. This event was known as the Shattering and Deathwing was known as the Cataclysm. During this time, adventurers traveled to the desert land of Uldum in southeastern Kalimdor and fought against Al'Akir the Windlord who had sided with Deathwing who was an agent of the Old Gods, the adventurers traveled to Mount Hyjal, home of the new Well of Eternity that Illidan created, and saved it from Ragnaros the Firelord who was also serving the Old Gods. Adventurers found themselves in the Twilight Highlands where they fought off against the Twilight's Hammer cult, a cult devoted to bringing the Hour Of Twilight, aka the end of the world, and their leader, Cho'gall. They also traveled to both Vash'jir and Deepholm to help out Neptulon, ruler of the seas, and Therazane, the Mother of the Earth respectively. They protected Neptulon from the Naga and they protected Therazane from the encroaching Twilight's Hammer. After the defeat of all his lieutenants, Deathwing decided to attack Wyrmrest Temple, the home of all of the other dragonflights, in Dragonblight. Here, adventurers along with Thrall, the World Shaman, fought Deathwing. They eventually forced him to retreat, but they knew that they could not let him get away. They chased him all the way to the Maelstrom, a raging chunk of sea caused by the destruction of the Well of Eternity. There, they defeated him, once and for all.
Dalaran is a nation-city founded by the Kirin Tor (Kirin Tor Mage). It is a floating city that has been to many places including Icecrown, a zone in Northrend, Deadwind Pass, the home of Karazhan, the Broken Isles, the epicenter of the Legions third invasion of Azeroth, and more. It has helped defend Azeroth from some of its greatest threats, the Lich King and his Scourge minions, the arcane residue in Karazhan, and even defending the world from the Legion. Rhonin, the mage legendary from the Grand Tournament, was once the leader of the great city. That was, until he was killed by Garrosh Hellscream during the Bombing of Theramore. Garrosh used a manabomb, a bomb with catastrophic destruction potential, to blow up Theramore, a military target in the continent of Kalimdor. Rhonin used his magical powers to absorb the explosion of the bomb, saving many important lore characters such as Jaina Proudmoore, the future leader of the Kirin Tor, Veressa Windrunner, sister of Sylvanas Windrunner and Alleria Windrunner, and more. The city is led by the Council of Six consisting of Archmage Khadgar, the former apprentice of Medivh [/card], Kalecgos, replacement of [card]Malygos after his defeat at the hands of the Kirin Tor, Modera, the longest standing member of the Council, Anisrem Runeweaver, formerly the leader of Dalaran, Archmage Karlain, a powerful mage and alchemist, and Archmage Vargoth, resident expert on Outland.
As far as we know, there are 7 major continents on Azeroth, Kalimdor, home of the majority of the Horde forces apart from the Blood Elves and the Forsaken, the Eastern Kingdoms, the home of the majority of the Alliance races apart from the Draenei and the Night Elves, Northrend, the northern most part of the planet, home of The Lich King and the Frozen Throne, Pandaria, the southern most part of Azeroth, home to the faction neutral Pandaren, the Broken Isles, home to an ancient Night Elven settlement among a great many other things, Zandalar, the home of the great Zandalari Troll empire, and Kul'Tiras home of Jaina Proudmore and the Kul'Tiran humans. There are also one other planet available to players, Outland. Outland was once ruled by Illidan Stormrage until adventurers defeated him and his lieutenants. There is also another reality known as Draenor that was opened by the dragon Kairozdormu and Garrosh Hellscream in an attempt to unite the two realities against the Burning Legion. The orcs on Draenor would eventually join the Legion and, led by Gul'dan from the alternate reality, summoned Archimonde the Defiler to Draenor until adventurers defeated him upon Hellfire Citadel.
This thread is meant to inspire people to make cards that are flavorful and make sense with the art. The thread will just be a bunch of random information about World of Warcraft to inspire people to make some cool cards. Without further ado, the first bit of information:
The Emerald Nightmare is a raid introduced in the beginning of the Legion expansion. It puts players up against foes old and new and turns ally against ally, The Nightmare is ruled by Malfurion's old nemesis Xavius. Although, Xavius is merely a puppet of the old god N'zoth. The Nightmare has caused many horrendous atrocities to occur such as:
The corruption of the Druids of the Fang, a group of druids who could transform into snakes and resided in the Wailing Caverns.
The Nightmare Scar in the Barrens caused by Naralex, leader of the Druids of the Fang.
The corruption of Shaladrassil, the World Tree.
The corruption of Ysera, the leader of the green dragonflight and the queen of the Emerald Dream.
And much more.
Any and all information and lore that you would like to share would be much appreciated. :)
Can you tell me the lord behind the Hearthstone Djinni?

Sure! The djinn are a form of air elementals that serve the elemental lord of the wind, Al'akir, the Windlord. The greatest of the djinn are part of a council known as the Conclave of Wind which are second only to Al'akir. They can be found in the Skywall, the elemental plane of air. They live in southeastern Kalimdor in an ancient land of the Titans known as Uldum. They have the power to bury entire cities under sand (they've done it to a city known as Orsis).

Thank you good sir for the quick response. I tip my turban to your excellency.
Originally, all the continents of Azeroth were one extremely large mass of land called Kalimdor. In the center of this continent was the Well of Eternity, the blood of the world soul of Azeroth, created when the Titans ripped the greatest of the Old Gods Y'sharaj, Rage Unbound out of the planet. In the beginning, there were only trolls in the land. The trolls that lived near the Well of Eternity would eventually evolve into the Night Elves and create sprawling cities all around the Well. They were ruled by a beautiful and loved queen, Queen Azshara. They lived peaceful and prosperous lives up until they attracted the attention of the demon lord Sargeras. He promised Azshara and her advisers limitless power and knowledge if they used the Well of Eternity to summon him and his Legion to Azeroth. They attempted to do so but were stopped by heroes the like of Malfurion and Illidan Stormrage, Tyrande Whisperwind, and friends. Just as Azshara was about to summon the demon lord, the Well exploded, turning Azshara and her people into the Naga and separating Kalimdor into the six continents.
The Old God C'Thun was located in the Southeastern part of ancient Kalimdor (It can still be found in the southeastern corner of Kalimdor as we know it). His servants adapted to the desert they lived in and became known as the qiraji (Skeram Cultist [/card]) (Ahn'qiraj sound familiar anyone?). The servants of [card]Yogg-Saron, Hope's End were the Nerubians (Fal'dorei Strider), spider like beings devoted to their master. The servants of Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound turned into the matid (Klaxxi Amberweaver), very similar to the mantis we know in real life. We don't know what N'Zoth, the Corruptor's minions were back then but we know that he currently controls the naga (Naga Sea Witch) and other notable personas such as Deathwing
C'Thun lives in the Titan city known as Ahn'qiraj. Slowly, over the millennia, it has managed to weaken its prison. All of his minions had been sleeping under the land since their war with the trolls. Eventually, the night elves would awaken the qiraji. This led to a war known as the War of the Shifting Sands which led to the death of the son of Fandral Staghelm, driving him to madness and leading him into his eventual service to Ragnaros. Eventually, the Army of Kalimdor managed to stop C'thun and construct a massive wall in front of the facility, preventing any of the Old Gods' minions from escaping. In more recent times, adventurers have taken down the wall and attacked the Old God himself. They defeated its lieutenants, most notably the Prophet Skeram, Adventurers also defeated well known monstrosities such as Princess Huhuran, Twin Emperor Vek'lor. After a fierce and long battle, adventurers killed the Old God, or at least its avatar. It is not known if C'thun is truly dead but one can hope.
Nagrand is a zone in Outland north of Zangamarsh, a dense marsh full of humongous mushrooms. The history of Nagrand is best accounted in the story of Durotan, the father of Thrall. Nagrand today is a beautiful land, where nature thrives, much as it was before the orcs fell into corruption and crossed into Azeroth. Nagrand is the original homeworld of the orcs, where they once lived in a peaceful, shamanistic society. The orcs lived in harmony with nature, and formed their religion around ancestor worship. Oshu'gun ("Mountain of Spirits" in Orcish) still towers in southwestern Nagrand, and houses an ancient Naaru spirit called K'ure, which drew in the spirits of the Orcs. For many years, the orcs held the Kosh'harg festival in the shadow of Oshu'gun, so that the shaman might commune with the ancestors' spirits in the mountain. Though the orcs lived in a society based upon elemental worship, the slaughter of the draenei at the urging of Ner'zhul, a pawn of the Burning Legion, led to the abandonment of the orcs by their elemental allies. Upon the arrival of Kil'jaeden and the induction of the Orcs into the Burning Legion, Nagrand, as well as all of Outland, was left to wither and die by elements turned uncaring to the orcs' concerns. The land suffered from a great famine in the aftermath of the battle at Shattrath City, and it took years for it to return to its former self. This is due in part to the elemental protectors at the Throne of the Elements and the efforts of the uncorrupted Orcs, the Mag'har.
The Wyrmcult is a group of Draenei, Broken, a devolved form of the Draenei, Humans, Orcs, and Black Dragons devoted to serving Blackwing, a group of powerful Black Dragons in Outland. They have lived in the Blade's Edge Mountains in Outland for quite a while before Azerothians came to Outland. The Cenarion Expedition, a sect of the Cenarion Circle, a powerful group of druids, were sent to Outland to heal the catastrophe that nature has had to endure. When they got to the Blade's Edge Mountains, the Wyrmcult did not want to give up their land and fought to protect it. The Cenarion Expedition wanted to negotiate with them but it was their land, they had no reason to negotiate or compromise or give anything to the Cenarion Expedition. The Expedition eventually recruited adventurers along with a defect from the group to take down their leader, Maxnar the Ashmaw, who was eventually killed. It is unknown what the Wyrmcult's plans were but most think that it had to be something nefarious.
The original homeland of the goblins was an island near the Maelstrom named Kezan. They lived in relative peace with each other (apart from the fierce battles to take the spot of Trade Prince from Trade Prince Gallywix) until the Cataclysm. Deathwing traveled to Kezan and caused an inactive volcano on the island to explode. This forced the Goblins to travel to the sea on boat and being accidentally attacked by the Alliance thinking that they were a Horde vessel. This is why the Goblins are officially apart of the Horde although the majority remain neutral, siding with whoever is willing to pay them more money. The Goblins ended up in the Lost Isles and eventually built a settlement there. After a while, they managed to arrive in Kalimdor in a zone known as Azshara. One of the first things they did was carve a giant stone statue of Gallywix.

Tales of Azeroth- 150+ card expansion!
I do cards and stuff. I'm cool, right? :3
Feel free to ask questions if you don't understand any of the lore or are just confused! I or anyone who knows their lore would be happy to help you!
Three pieces of lore in one!:
The Nightwell is the Highborne equivalent of the Sunwell. The Highborne of Suramar lived peacefully until the Legion's first invasion of Azeroth during the War of the Ancients. Their leader decided to use it's power to create a shield around Suramar, believing the the world would be overrun by the Demons. For this who never played wow. This will help you understand where the cards and design came from.
Illidan has a reaaaaaally long story so I'm just going to leave a link here for all those who want to know.
