This thread hasn't had a post in a few months, I hope people haven't forgotten about it. I definitely haven't although I've not been posting much lately I have been checking each day as I said I would! I thought I could use this time to talk about my favorite space mercenaries, The Ethereals. Due to all the speculation of it being a potential future race to play in WoW, there's been a lot of buzz about them lately.
The Ethereals weren't always incorporeal masses of energy loosely held together by bandages. They were once one of many sentient races on the planet of K'aresh, a planet with an arid ecosystem. The Ethereals aren't quite sure how Dimensius the All-Devouring were drawn to their planet upon that fateful day. Many years ago a void lord, named Dimensius the All-Devouring, began to envelop their planet in twisted arcane energies by opening numerous portals to the void, surrounding the planet and slowly enveloping it into the Twisting Nether.
The Ethereals panicked and used all their advanced technology to try and shield themselves from the creature. However their attempt was only partly successful. The immense arcane power stripped their bodies down in a powerful blast only leaving a mass of energy able to take form that was their soul, barely hanging on as it was. They used enhanced strips of cloth to bind their souls to and help keep them stable. The altered state, although a shock, was a bit of a blessing because it gave them enhanced magical power, leading them to be able to hold off the Void Lord for some time at a stand still. However, such a thing did not last forever.
Over the years Dimensius grew stronger and stronger and all the time he was boding, waiting to open the floodgates with his massive army. He succeeded in eventually overrunning the planet and destroying it, forcing the inhabitants to leave in desperation into the twisting nether. The Ethereum, sinister group of ethereals swore vengeance against the creature as the delved into darker and darker practices. They were ruled by a group of Nexus Princes, one of whom formed the Protectorate the main body force of the group. Another formed the Consortium a group more akin to space pirates that were smugglers, thieves, and traders.
There is another group known as the NExus-Stalkers, a malevolent group of Ethereals fused with the void. The Other ethereals do not approve and essentially exiled them. It was thought at first their goal was simply revenge but later it turned out their true goals were to become pure void energy.
They are largely a neutral race, mostly working for their own interests whether it being profit or otherwise. HOwever the Consortium eventually allied with the Sha'tar, a faction of draenei under the command of the Naaru A'dal. Their political system is similar to that of Goblins where a head person rules, in this case a Nexus Prince. They are also quite greedy, seeking anything that will further their profits. They are a technologically advanced race capable of creating eco-domes and other technical feats. They also are unique in knowing Technomancy, a form of magic that is able to 'transmogrify' gear in World of Warcraft. Transmogrification is making a piece of armor look like something else. Mostly a commodity.
I'm loving this thread! One thing I'd suggest though is to take all of the explanations and edit them into the initial post, so if this takes off (which it seems to be), newcomers or people looking for specific already explained lore can look for it in the first post!
So, they've been mentioned a bit but never asked about directly, so my question is:
What all do we know about Void Lords? I find this topic fascinating because lots of speculation about the next WoW expansion involves these beings as potential focuses.

They are primordial entities that existed before reality itself, where only Light and Shadow were born. They want to engulf everything that exist into darkness and madness but they're forced out of the existing universe by the Naaru (an incarnation of Light itself as the Void Lords are an incarnation of Shadow) so they've planned to find and corrupt a sleeping Titan before its awakening and to do so they've send the Old Gods around the universe.
When Sargeras discovered their plan, he decided that to prevent this the only solution was to burn everything to ashes because a dead universe will anyway be better that a corrupted one. So the now Fallen Titan recruited the Demons he had once imprisoned to form its Burning Legion.
Oh dear. Sorry guys I've been incredibly sick but it's really nice Argentium is here to help out as well. Much love my man. <3 Yeah, Varian Wrynn is one of the most lore rich characters although the expansion he came in never really jived with me. Varian deserves another take some-day, much like Deathwing in my opinion.
Oh yeah I love talking about the lore that's why I made this thread. It's definitely fun to talk about and incredibly expansive. There are ton of things with lots of information and then some things that might be expanded on but aren't yet. The next expansion is going to add some more lore to it as well. I might do a breakdown of some of the things added. It's fun to note the Tortollan are making an appearance in warcraft meaning they liked the idea of the Hearthstone race enough to add them to Zandalar and making them officially canon. (Hearthstone is Non-Canon, which I'm sure most of you know.)
Anyway I love the story of Sir Thomas and the tragedy of the Headless Horseman myself. Such a creative and horrifying boss and a way to incorporate a popular mythical character in an unique way without copy paste.
This thread seems like it needs to be revived but since I have no questions and am a bit of a lore freak here is a small tibit of information:
The new expansion for World of Warcraft will be called Battle for Azeroth and is the climax of the war between the Alliance and the Horde. Something happened (we don't know what yet but we assume that it was the burning of Teldrassil, homeland of the Night Elves) that caused the two factions to go into all out war. There are two new continents that we will explore in the expansion: Zandalar, an ancient Troll empire, and Kul Tiras, Jaina's homeland. There will also be six new races added to the game with each faction getting three. The Alliance get the Void Elves, Blood Elves that the city of Silvermoon have rejected due to their connection to the void, Lightforged Draenei, Draenei that are members of the Army of the Light and have been infused with the Light, and the Dark Iron Dwarves, one of the three clans of dwarves, led by Moira Thaurissan. The Horde get Zandalari Trolls. the original Trolls from Zandalar, the Nightborne, the people of Suramar, originally Night Elves but rejected by Tyrande, and the Highmountain Tauren, Tauren who hail from the land of Highmountain in the Broken Isles. We know that the war is somehow related to N'zoth and that we will fight and defeat Queen Azshara at some point in the expansion. Welp, that's it. Thanks for reading!
Is there any more info on who burns down the world tree? I think this is what is meant to spark the war between alliance and horde right?
Indeed Sylvanas assault upon the Night Elves homelands and Teldrassil will be a large part in sparking all out war next expansion. However we do not yet know the exact cause of what happened. Blizzard did say 'Why would the horde burn Teldrassil' in the expansion reveal so it's assumed the horde did it. But we don't actually know yet.
Sylvanas' war path takes her through Ashenvale, Darkshore, all the way to Teldrassil. Data-mining is going on at the moment about the invasion and such, along with some early alpha builds being rolled out to a select few. It remains to be seen. The last pre-launch event from Legion took a lot of time to finalize with certain things being changed very late in development, the same might happen here. When it does launch after a couple weeks I plan on doing a full write up of where the story is at.
I think this;ll be fascinating to see what kind of Warchief Sylvanas will be. And I'm reallly hoping that there'll be some ingame tension between the Windrunner sisters. Thus far, the trial of Garrosh in Pandaria showed us some excellent moments between Vareesa and Sylvanas. Now Valieria is back....I'm hoping for some angst.
And for anyone in the know, (I'd intentionally not looked for this) is there any significant lore on Lunara. I think she was added to WoW after she was whistled up for HoTS. I'd have much rather seen Hamuul.

Nope. Nothing significant about her in Warcraft Lore, other than being the first dryad which was carried over from Heroes of the Storm. She shows up in a Legion zone but is just a generic NPC. I'll take this time to give you some interesting fact about Dryads recently revealed.
Dryads are grown from enchanted acorns tended to by druids(Or in Lunaras case I guess Cenarius). These druids whisper in various languages to the acorn to teach them about the world before they're grown, and at the first touch of water, sprout into their normal appearance in a matter of seconds. Once grown, they immediately imprint on the first person they see, meant to be a druid, who will teach them to control and utilize their powers for the good of nature. Dryads do not consume animal products, and instead enjoy various vegetables and fruits. They can converse with any living beings, such as bee hives, can grow plants at their will, and are largely immune to all forms of magic. Although they grow from an acorn, they do seem to have normal biology once done growing, as they're capable of bleeding. Night elves heavily revere dryads and Loa actually fear them.

Wait wait what?
I know most of the things in regards to Dryads of what you just mentioned but Loa fear them? Really?
Can you tell me more about this as this is something I was not aware of and I will happily hear more about anything related to the Loa, especially with Bwonsamdi and many other Loas recieving updated models and it being quite heavily in troll lore.
So can you tell me ANYTHING more about Loa and their relationships with the Dryads? Where did we get to know this? Why do they fear them? Doing some quick research folks' talk about them respecting them rather than fearing them and if so why's this?
TELL ME!! ... please? ^^'
Its from the new traveler book which is considered canon. Shadra specifically feared them but it was insinuated that all do.
I Did the Lucid Nightmare mount last night (Fuck the endless Halls, like seriously)
Is there actually any lore behind this mount, or is it just a collectors mount from blizz?
I thought there was actually quite a lot of significance behind the endless Halls: (Possible spoilers ahead!)
.

.
.
Like why do the ashes of the previous king dude send you to the endless halls, why are they there?
Nope. It's just a fun little puzzle. It was madness trying to solve it with the group as it was going on. I was there, I know the memes. Celestalon and Muffinus tended to do most of the work on those puzzle mounts. Now that Celestalon has gone to join our own Hearthstone team here I hope Jeremy (Muffinus) Keeps the tradition going! The Lucid Nightmare was the most puzzling one yet. Pretty amazing too.
That's sad. Would have been cool if there was actually some kind of story behind it.
I managed the Maze in 1 1/2 Hours...
Some of my friends were in there for 3, lol. I think i was lucky because the red and purple orbs were a couple of rooms apart and i think i luckily stumbled into them haha. Not gunna lie, i found the lack of music or any sound but the quit ambience creepy.... It was weird when you complete it going into those huge rooms where the scroll is and it's just deadly silent.
It was a great little puzzle, i hope they make more like it. "Riddle me this" Isn't as interesting so much.
I made an attempt to get the Lucid Nightmare but I lacked sufficient patience so I applaud your ability to finish the maze.

For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
I don't know much about the lore, but can you tell me the history of my favorite card - Varian Wrynn? :D
Check out my fun and innovative decks here:
Beat your opponent to a pulp with Revenant Warrior or outlast them with Demon Reno Warlock.
Wow Argentum, thanks man. I’ll definitely check out that video.
As an aside, I thought Bolvar being burned was related to him taking up the mantle of Lich King, didn’t know it was actually Onixia.
