Hey readers, welcome to my second custom Hearthstone expansion. I'm bad with names. Just like WotOG, this is a dark, much more serious themed expansion. While I do enjoy some of the game's lighthearted content, I do wish to see another serious, dark expansion soon.
Just like my last expansion, this is not Warcraft themed, but I may try to throw in some little nods and Warcraft related bits and pieces here and there. This is intended to be a HUGE expansion, with roughly 200 cards and usage of a new keyword, Dark Matter Orbs.
Explanation on Dark Matter Orbs:
Dark Matter Orbs are a form of mana-like resources that are stored beneath your Mana Crystals (just like Overload). Some cards like these ones down here will give you these orbs to use.
And your favorite classes get to join in on the fun as well.
But what do these orbs do? Like, what are they used for? You use them an alternate means of paying for effects.
Classes of course get to join in on this fun as well.
Its your dark matter, use it the way you want to. You decide how many orbs you use. When you play a card like this, a Discover-like interface will pop up giving you choices to pick. These cards can be played if you have no Orbs, they just won't do anything except for Doomsday Portal.
This comes at a price though. Dark Matter Orbs do not regenerate. When you use them, they're gone for good. So, be careful with how you use them.
I'm general weapons that can gain attack are probably a bad idea. Decks like Pirate Warrior do exist after all. Other than that, loving it so far. Can't wait to see the Hunter cards.
Obviously intended for combos which Mage can already do, so this can fit right like a glove in Mage decks focused on spell combos. May need to make it 2 mana because right now, it's extremely easy to combo 2 of these off getting Spell Damage +4 for only 2 mana. Pretty crazy, I know.
Blessing of Undeath
A relatively strong Paladin buff that adds the premium stats of a 2-cost minion onto one of yours for that much mana. Basically think Mark of the Wild with +1 Attack instead of Taunt. Also, gives you one of those sweet Dark Matter Orbs.
Soul Explosion
Have you ever forgotten that Duplicate or Effigy has rotated out? Seems silly to be playing around it now, but not anymore with this card. Very much in the same vein as Explosive Trap for Hunters. You pretty much play your opponent into it before your opponent even knows you have it, then your opponent wants to trigger it before it causes more damage. If you're lucky, you could get a HUGE board swipe for only 3 mana (this mana discount is pretty much in-line with Explosive Trap and Consecration). Unlike Explosive Trap though, this doesn't hit face.
Darwinist
Think Master of Evolution only more controlled. You choose a minion, then you get 3 minions that cost 1 more than the chosen minion. After you choose one of those minions, you transform the minion you originally chose into that minion. You don't get a copy of the minion you transformed. No longer will you transform a 5-cost minion into a Big-Time Racketeer, because you get the choice and also a better chance to get a top-tier choice. As in typical Discover fashion, it's limited to your class and Neutrals.
Darksayer
Mostly kind of a joke card as a non-destructive remake of Doomsayer. However, it could gain you a fair few orbs if it stays alive and just like its more destructive counterpart, it does have a massive 7 Health.
Skull Sniper
Personally, I've always been a big fan of the Steamwheedle Sniper mechanic and I really don't think it should be limited to just one card, especially one that's rather easily forgotten by quite a few people. I'd love to see the mechanic come back, here's a way to do it. Its effect applies until you actually use the Hero Power and one of the main weakness of Steamwheedle Sniper was that it was easy to kill it before you could really take advantage of it. Not the case here. Though the next time you use your Hero Power, you should target a minion (unless you have lethal), because even if you target face with it, the effect will still go away.
Servant of the Moon
So, powercreep over Drain Life? Well yes, but Drain Life has never even been remotely okay to begin with ever, and has already been powercreeped by Bash in TGT, and Gadgetzan Socialite also kinda does the same thing. This will give you a 1/1 minion that deals 2 damage for 2, which is okay in itself, but also gives you a small Health bonus on top of that.
Shard Golem
Basically the exact opposite of Rotting Ghoul, which is a 1/4 for 2 which gains Attack when you spend your Orbs. This is a 4/1 for 2 which gains Health as you spend your Orbs. Spend enough Orbs and you could potentially get a 4/5 for 2 mana, with the additional price that you need to spend your Dark Matter Orbs to make it survivable. But, also just watch out for Earth Shock, or you're going to be sad.
Pheran the Shapeshifter
Renounce Darkness's for everyone! I'm sure we all have had our fun moments with Renounce Darkness, and now all classes get to have that fun. While yes, this is a fun card to play and will probably be played mostly for the fun factor, swapping your class in reality can have a lot of utility where you can play this late to swap your cards out for more stuff, similar to a Golden Monkey. You also swap cards you have in your hand from other classes, so if you have two Mage cards in your hand as a Priest and you play this (and choose Warrior for example), you will also swap those cards out as well. In addition to that, it's also a Chillwind Yeti on the board.
Pack Leader
A 3/3 that can be really useful with The Marsh Queen, and Deathrattle themed Hunters.
Shadow Silhouettes
Half a Soul of the Forest, for half the cost, only a little bit better because you now benefit from the minion's effects. Could potentially be good in Deathrattle Priest where you benefit from the Deathrattles twice and the 1/1 copies will contribute to completion of Awaken the Makers.

This is really cool, like the idea of Dark matter orbs, tho imo you could've come up with a better name (I know it's a hard thing to edit the cards now).
Referring to your arcane greatstaff problem, I had the same idea tho I ended main it a weapon in my (mini)expansion so I would avoid stacking

Thank you. Do you have any name ideas? If so, I'd like to hear them.
Do you think I should just make Arcane Greatstaff 2 mana? Or should I make them tokens from another card?

Sorry for responding so late, what do you mean by names? A name for the whole expansion or for some new cards.
I feel like Aracane Greatstaff certainly couldve been 2 mana, if you feel like it will be a lot weaker the you can throw in "Draw a card" maybe.

Yes, a name for the expansion. I think for the competition, I will make Arcane Greatstaff 2 mana.

Now that the custom expansion contest is a thing, I'm thinking of using this if I'm allowed to.
