And I'm sure there are an equal, if not greater, amount of examples where Nefarian yields terrible value. Its RNG. There will be good times, and there will most obviously be bad times.
i'm sure at rank 18 this card will be a bit of fun, but really don't think it has staying power as you progress beyond this
the " its only Ranked ____" Argument 3 days into the Season isnt a sound one. im currently ranked 12 right now because ive been playing All morning and ive had simular results.
it is a fine card... it's been called a replacement for ysera and strifecro said he would use it instead of chromagus in his grinder mage if it was 8 mana. It just isn't as good as Ysera because it's more rng. I've had him win me games on his own tho.Like getting twisting nether vs a demonlock with 2motltens and malganis on board.
and yet Ysera isnt MORE RNG? there are 5 cards you randomly get. Granted alot of the Cards from Ysera are good, but Still.
at no point did i say you were bad, i just said i don't think the card will see that much CONSISTENT play in the higher ranks. i'm sure you're a perfectly adept player.
I think that Nefarian can really help you. Think about it, a spell is always a spell. What's the worst thing that can happen? I don't remember a spell that can't help you winning (in a certain situation).
However, my favorite Legend will always be LEEROOOOOY JENKIIIIINS!!!!!
There are a bunch of spells that literally end up being completely useless and dead in your hand for the rest of the game. This general unreliability of the effect and the fact that you probably won't be able to make use of the spells until your next turn are part of the reason why Nefarian doesn't see much play.
Still i've got to say that Nefarian wasn't considered to be bad. He was considered to be exactly what he is. A big body with decent effect that suffers from it's inherent RNG and that is and always will be the reason for Nefarian not quite being top tier but he isn't bad either.
You can't look at a card in a vacuum. Nefarian always goes in a deck with 29 other cards. For what it's worth, most classes in Hearthstone are weapon classes, and both Deadly Poison and Savagery could be great for them (Savagery in warrior would be disgusting). Maybe that means you value Nefarian more in decks that run weapons, maybe you're willing to run the risk of an occasional useless draw.
Sense Demons is actually never a useless draw—you always at least get two 1-mana 1/1s (Worthless Imp). Totemic MIght is, yes, a complete piece of trash, but it does cost 0 mana, and there are other cards that can play off that. Nefarian is an interesting choice in any deck that runs Gadgetzan Auctioneer, for instance, and might also work with Gazlowe, Violet Teacher, Archmage Antonidas, Dragonkin Sorcerer, etc.
There's always a whole web of synergies and potential synergies to consider—think about having Nefarian, Gadgetzan Auctioneer, Gazlowe, and Mind Vision all in the same priest deck. Gadgetzan can draw off anything you get from Nef. Gazlowe can draw off any 1-mana spells you get from Nef, plus Mind Vision, PW:S, and other stuff that's already in priest. Mind Vision can steal an opponent's weapons; the cards from Nef can buff them. (Yes, I've tried it, yes, it's very fun, no, it doesn't perform well in this very aggro meta.)
You gotta admit, the RNG is fun as hell. I got a Force Savage off a Druid the very first game I played with Nefarian and have kept him in my deck since then.
Nefarian is extremely fun to play and I've been using him as a temporary replacement for Ysera. More often times than not he gives me cards that I need. Even mediocre cards can help you out from time to time. I once got Spellbender, and prevented the enemy from using Polymorph on my Nefarian. His 8 damage won me the game next turn. Of course, I still prefer solid cards like Ysera.
Nefarian is my new favorite too. He is dirtier than thoughtsteal but RNG is the name of the game so as I like to say "if you cant beat them, join them"
Statistically speaking, Nefarian is least likely to draw you unusable cards if used by a Warrior or Shaman, because the only spells they're unable to cast are Totemic Might and Shield Slam, respectively. And that's only when the two classes are facing each other.
Not saying you should put him in those classes, just pointing something out.
Nefarian is not a bad card in Control Warrior. When you're playing as a Warrior, you can use spells like Shield Slam, Deadly Poison, Blade Flurry, which other classes can't benefit from. The worst class to play Nefarian against would be Hunter, to get something like Bestial Wrath. Still, if you have time to play Nefarian against Hunter, you probably already won the game anyway.

Dont know why people thought Nefarian was a bad card. The times ive played with him, hes been insane Value
This is an example of why
Sprint in Control Warrior?!?!?!? wow
Hearthstone is a game of "copy and pasting"

RNG can be on my side for once!

i have had fun with him, just recently i got Humility vs a paladin on turn 10. he had boom out. he was pissed.
however, i have a lot of good cards, so i am only able to fit him in my dragon priest and dragon paladin, where his synergy makes him amazing.
Nefarian costs so much, ofc it would be useful in control mirrors but at the same time it's completely useless and dead card against aggro decks.
x16 Legend
The highest legend ranks:
The biggest problem with Nefarian is the 8 attack.
My comments refer mostly to the wild format.
