Guys maybe it would help if we complained on Blizzard's HS forums about this? Do Blizz people read this stuff here? I mean, yes, you would have to be Gurubashi Beserkers in your deck and have them out to make this even useful, but not knowing when it would go off, its still awful.
They won't change it so we're basically just sharing our misery for solace.
I guess rogues and pallys are louder, but I think mages are the real losers of GvG. They havent got any class-specific secret/freeze/deathrattle/burn/handmage synergy, they just got some crappy mechs. Okay, some of them are good, but it still sucks that none of the previous builds have been buffed. This shitty legendary also doesnt fit into any mage archetype, not even into future GvG mage decks.
Agreed.
What about at least one epic: Destroy a Frozen minion or SOMETHING really good...
Flame Leviathan is a card that is not meant to be played. It is a card to stop aggro however unreliabily. When you face against zoo or hunter and have no answer in hand, you draw this card and wipe their board. Though, you would never play a 7/7 war golem right?
This card is anti-aggro. Basically you want to draw this card but not play this card.
There's no incentive to play this over baron geddon.
Its terrible and thats saying something from a guy who genuinely doesn't think any other card, basic, naxx, or gvg is truly bad.
It doesnt make sense to run this for anti aggro. You cant depend on it to draw 1-5, and if you do happen to draw it and stop early aggro you've lost card advantage.
Honestly, i would play stoneskin gargoyle over this card. At least itd be more reliable in stopping early aggro.
The truly crippling aspect of this card is how much it hurts the player in the competitive scene. Now your opponent can gauge your hand with meta knowledge minus one. Which can break you competitively. Even in arena.
If it was 6 cost 7/7 deal 2 dmg to all enemy characters battlecry i could maybe get on board.

Your "maybe get on board" option would be worth 10 mana (7/7 class minion + Consecration). I would eagerly spend 6 mana for a 10 mana card.

There was an earlier question about what synergizes with this card.

Except it's NOT a consecration. The self-damaging aspect cannot be ignored. Explosive Sheep does the 2 damage to all job better, at 2 mana.
Please re-read the post I was quoting. I understand that Flame Leviathan hits everything. However, the specific scenario I was responding to was a Consecration effect.
Yong Woo: I think it's great that we don't have all the decks figured out on day 1 or reveal!
He makes it sound like we are missing something... like there is that great deck idea no one is seeing oO
I said it in an earlier post.
This card is viable in a OTK frost Mage deck.
But then (as many have stated) it may just as well kill you when you are hiding behind your iceblock :( Not sure you want to take the risk of killing yourself
The chances of this card killing you is slim vs its benefits in a OTK frost Mage deck I think.
It would require the opponent to force your ice block on their turn and bring you down to 2 life or less, and for you to draw this card on the very next turn.
If you are not killing your opponent the next turn after your last ice block goes off in a OTK frost Mage deck, chances are you lost already anyway.
This honestly makes me so mad. Mage is in the bottom of the meta right now. None of the cards it got are significant enough to change that, but especially this one. I can't even see this being situationally good.
The thing that bothers me the most about this card is that it doesn't feel like a mage card at all. What does it have to do with mage lore? Couldn't we have gotten some other warcraft mage? I'm sure there are plenty that they could have used. I could come up with 5 mage legendaries right now which are fairly balanced but stronger and more interesting than this card.
I'm not even upset that this card isn't buffing mages, I'm just upset that I doubt this card can fit into any deck at all. Maybe they thought this would be funny, since RNG is so funny or something? This just feels hopeless.
To be honest, the development feels lazy. Weak card, boring effect, and no relation to magic whatsoever.
Is there really nothing the mage community can do about this?
Why are you trying at all costs to fit this card in aggro or freeze mage. You can build a lot of decks around this card, and have some awesome synergies at all stages of the game. I don't think you quite realize how much power is a 2 damage aoe for 0 mana. For example you draw it, then play thalnos + arcane explosion and have a flamestrike for 4. Same with explosive sheep + ping. Then you follow up with Cairne on an empty board. It's amazing with nerubian eggs, duplicates and Kel-thuzad. You can blow your deathrattle board for 0, trigger the deathrattles, play KT + undertaker and get insane value. Or it's just insane in an AOE spellpower control mages. This card has so much potential, and it won't take much for people to realize it.
Are you forgetting that it is completely random when you draw it? If this dealt damage when you played it then it might be playable. But as it stands, you really can't count on drawing it when you need the AOE; you might instead draw it when it hurts you (e.g. you have 1-2 health minions left on the board, or your hero is at two health).
In short, it is way too unreliable to be counted on as an AOE.
This is just a 'surprise 2-damage hellfire', which can backfire easily as mages have sorcerer's apprentices, mirror images, and other early game shit.
Also, it's a red flag that you have the card in your hand. The opponent is keeping his BGH or other removal ready. It's interesting, but it's a card that has so many surrounding things working against it that it's difficult to play effectively.
Perhaps giving it charge and -2 health would be good? Maybe then your opponent would be forced to keep taunts on the board in fear of this card.
I can't believe the devs would make something so bad and un-fun. Maybe they rushed near the end? I understand neptulon, he could be fun. But this card sucks for everything. War golem, Dr boom, and velen are wayyyy better.
Unfortunately, seems so.
I wonder if Blizzard was compensating on class legendaries, based on "awesome-level" of pre-existing legendaries, or to open up new meta styles.
Priest = Velen (stinks), Vol'Jin = Best GvG class Leg.
Hunter = Krush (stinks), Gaz'rhilla = excellent leg, opens a new hunter control meta
They won't change it so we're basically just sharing our misery for solace.
and I thought the shaman's one were bad
Agreed.

They made a worse, random version of Baron Geddon....
lol
It wouldn't even be worth playing if it was 2 damage to enemy characters

Yong Woo: "oh man! I love Flame Leviathan. I agree that Medivh and Khadgar would be cool as well. There's future!"
Well, Yong Woo likes it.

In addition to Gurubashi Berserker, Amani Berserker, and Raging Worgen, I would add Darkscale Healer, Kel'Thuzad, and assorted stalling and aoe tactics.
Yong Woo: I think it's great that we don't have all the decks figured out on day 1 or reveal!
Yong Woo: Let it breath in the meta for a little while before you condemn it!
Why is this a Mage card?
Yong Woo: Like the Snowchugger, it's a mech infused with fire & ice. I kind of like the magic theme.
Flame Leviathan is War Golem as the Koolaid man, just as useless but sometimes he bursts through the wall unannounced and crushes all your children.

Why can't the effect at least be one sided? At least then it would be a 7/7 for 7 with upside.
Favorite class: keeping all 9 of them equal in level.
I said it in an earlier post.

Warlock = Jaraxxus (control meta), Mal'Ganis (Demon Lock deck)
Shaman = Al'Akir (Combo/Midrange Shaman), Neptulon = Murloc Shaman
Paladin = Tirion (amazing), Bolvar = Meh
therefore:
Mage = Archmage (excellent Leg.), Flame Leviathan = pointless and sucky. (And at least Bolvar is an epic WoW paladin)
The counter-point to all this is, Rogue, Warrior, Warlock and Druid now have 2 awesome legendaries.
