I know there are much better lists possible, but I just like to mix as many things together as I can. In this case dragonhawk, dragons, spell damage and battlecry :p
I was playing this Jan'alai in both my Odd Mage and my Elemental Mage deck. The Odd Mage deck was active almost always by turn 7 if not sooner without any play style changes or 'forcing' the issue.
The Elemental Mage deck would often not have the choice or opportunity to ping for 1 damage. If your hero power does not kill an early minion, it's such a bad play. Sometimes you don't have the choice, but if you have the choice between 1 damage on a Flame Elemental, or playing a solid 2 drop, what would you do?
The 2 damage ping for Odd Mage was so strong, that you could and would take turns off because it was the better play. I think playing this card is ok, but it will be much harder to activate and therefore is only good against slower decks, not aggro.
I mean, if you are facing down a board of Murlocs, do you really think your fire eater + 3 damage is going to win you the game?

It is enough to remove a Warleader or Scargill...so maybe?
I still think Fire eater is a card you're going to want to play. I don't know if Jana'li will be, though. Especially when it looks like Toni might be the better choice thanks to all the spell synergy.

Oh, Fire Eater is still very good, but does it justify a 7 mana minion that may or may not be active without more help?
I think if more control cards for Mage are released in later expansions, sure. I wouldn't necessarily dust it though, as I think its a good card, but maybe not right away.

I am beginning to believe that Freeze Mage may be the best Mage. In that case, she may be playable. But I agree - she seems totally out of place in any sort of SMOL Spell or tempo mage.
To me it seems that Jan'alai was never meant to be included in Tempo/Aggro decks. It was solely down to Baku which allowed her to be used as some sort of late game finisher. Don't forget that the upcoming storm of MRGL! will be a time where Blast Wave might become a real option, especially when powered up with spell damage. And Warleader/Underbelly Angler can be removed with ease via Fire Eater + heropower. Sure, once Coldlight Seer hits the board you're in trouble but which class won't be, except for Warrior (Brawl)? All in all I think Control Mage might remain a viable deck.

I don't know if Jan'alai will make the cut into Tier 1 decks, but I can definitely see a Tier 2/3 deck make it easy with it in it.
