What happens? Is there any official source detailing that?
If it triggers at least 10 Defiles, it already leads to an OTK with Bittertide Hydra + Treachery. But even without the Hydra, seriously, what happens? Is there a castcap? Or does the turn loop indefinitely?
well, Disguised Toast just tested it: the loop ends after 13 or 14 turns, which basically makes Grim Patron and Defile some kind of ultimate boardclear WTF
Except it costs 5 cards and 16 mana, wouldn't even work with Thaurissan you would be 1 mana short. Edit : right, bloodbloom, good catch.
Anyway, I think what happens is it will fill the board with grim patrons until eventually there are only 2-3 health patrons left on the board, which can't die and cannot generate additional patrons either. At this point, Defile will stop. No idea how long it would take to get there.
With either The Coin or Bloodbloom as a 6th combo card the otk works (assuming 10 Defile ticks).
I know the card says "If any die, play it again" but probably the minion will just stay on the board with 0 health until the loop is done -> that way any infinite loop can be prevented.

Who can take your trash out? Stomp it down for you? Shake the plastic bag and do the twisty thingy, too?

If that were the case, then dreadsteed didn't need to get nerfed. If the case is that you do go infinite, then they messed up. So either way, something is wrong.

and to Blizzard: u nerfed my beloved Dreadsteed into the ground and pimped Grim Patron to another boardclear for Warlock? facepalm

Empty board. You play Possessed Villager for instance and then Grim Patron with Defile.

For those curious about the potential OTK:
You need an Emperor Thaurissan tick on:
Hmmmmmmm
well first off let's do some numberical stuff with grim patrons assuming board state of 3/1 3/2 3/3
3/1 3/2 3/3 3/3
3/1 3/2 3/2 3/3 3/3 3/3
3/1 3/1 3/2 3/2 3/2 3/3 3/3
3/1 3/1 3/1 3/2 3/2 3/3 3/3
3/1 3/1 3/2 3/2 3/3 3/3 3/3
3/1 3/1 3/2 3/2 3/2 3/3 3/3 and repeat forever
Yeah, the defile will stop when the board is full of patrons.
I'm willing to bet they overlook at least one of these infinite combos and have to do at least one emergency patch due to Defile.

Infinite loop of just killing off your board. You would probably be left with a 3-2 at the end of your turn.
You have a mistake at line 4, the new patron spawn before the 3/0 patron vanish, so you will never have 7 patron alive at the same time.
1 2 3
1 2 3 3
1 2 2 3 3 3
1 1 2 2 2 3
1 1 1 2 3
1 2 33 (line 2)
This is just a shining example of how dumb the dev team is. they nerfed dreadsteed but this is still a problem.
I'm here to kick ass and play cards, and I'm all out of ass.
So, since most answers here agree with there being at least 10 Defile damage ticks, I think the Hydra OTK combo deck will be worth a try:
Will this work with death speaker and knife juggler? or will the board get too crowded?
I know the card says "If any die, play it again" but probably the minion will just stay on the board with 0 health until the loop is done -> that way any infinite loop can be prevented.

Why didn't they solve it the sensible way?
If (board state before cast == board state after cast) stop;
