I think what we are seeing here is Blizzard struggling with the tri-class system. This and the previous Druid card are strictly worse than other already printed cards, and the Draw minion for Jade Lotus is also slow with a weak body. Either they found drawing from these three classes is OP or the Jade Golem mechanism itself is OP. It's the only way I can make any sense of it.
First time combo has been used NOT to make a strictly stronger outcome, but to make a pseudo choose one effect, as bouncing a minion back to your hand is not always a good thing.
This is what people need to understand. With Pandas you need to bring back something even if you don't want, but here you can kinda "choose" do you want to use effect or not.
I think people understand that. They also understand that if you're playing a deck that wants to bounce minions, you always want this card to bounce a minion. You don't want to throw away a chance at whatever combo or synergy you had planned for the sake of playing a god damned River Crocolisk.

Youthful Brewmaster *must* return a card to hand if there is one available to target, whether you want to or not. This new card gives you the option to leave all your cards in play (by playing it first) or bouncing if you want to (by comboing it).
It doesn't sound like a strong card to me, but it is not strictly worse than Youthful Brewmaster.
You really don't have to play Youthful Brewmaster if you don't want a friendly minion to return to your hand. On the other hand, you really don't need to add Gadgetzan Ferryman to your deck just to play it w/o using its combo for flexibility. It's just a waste.

The issue is that the opportunity cost of the choice is so massive, compared to the gain, that it's basically like taking out a massive loan, with a huge percent, to buy something you don't need.
In other words, the negative massively outweighs any benefit, especially when you consider it's a class card. At least make it a 3/3 so there's some choice in the long run.
I was really happy to see the next card revealed. Now i'm really disappointed. When i saw it i thought WHAT?! THIS CAN'T BE REAL! Let me get back, i must have misread, maybe there's no FRIENDLY in wording. But no, reversed stats brewmaster with a combo. I can choose if i combo or not. What a combo, such deep strategy.
Undeniably the worst expansion class card. Damn, probably THE worst expansion card among all cards. Even the pigs are better than this. And it's a RARE! Yeah, RARE GARBAGE.
I think it won't make it in most decks but in some cases it is better than Youthfull brewmaster. Imagine the Situation you played a 1-drop in arena and DON'T want to get it back on you hand for tempo. Well now you can play this card just for stats. (I mostly have arena in mind)

That's fine, if it was a common, but it's a rare so it doesn't compete with any of the panda bounce slots. Granted, there are worse rares, but remember you're more likely to see this in your rare slot than SI:7 Agent now, due to how arena works. That should be your real comparison.
After this thing they better either reveal a goddamn good weapon or announce they're reverting Blade Flurry nerf ,cause as of now this card is just plain offensive....
Um, this is as bad as purify. How can Blizzard print a class card that is strictly worse than a neutral?? I guess the advantage is avoiding the trigger when you don't want it, but at that point it is just a 2/3. What is this????????? This just pisses me off more that they nerfed blade flurry. Oh and where are those OP weapons Blizzard?

Hey now, at least Miracle or Maly builds are a thing... This is also a 2/3 body for 2, this is much better than Purify. Even in Arena this is a rare, not a common like Purify.
It boggles me why they gave Rogue this card. Sure, it can tie in with the Jade Golem mechanic and there are still a few Rogue cards left, but was this what Rogue really needed at this time? The Jinyu Waterspeaker Shaman got was something Rogues could have really used.

Just like the 1 mana 3/3 weapon to shaman - when they doesn't need any more buff, as they already got 2 mana 3/4, 4 mana 7/7. WTF, if shaman identity is big minions with overload drawback, then so be it... but why give amazing weapon as well?? And they have board clears on top of that. So perfect. Compared to rogue, which currently have no healing, no board clears, no big minions.... AND no good weapon / weapon buff.
Then there is pirate weapon buffing synergy... They give it to warrior instead. This one isn't wrong, but pirate rogue was never even on par with the warrior's. Oil Rogue was a great representation of rogue, weapon buffing combo class.

I'm seeing a comeback of some older decks, such as Mill Rouge where you can bounce your oracles for card fatigue.
Also its a descent card for Mill where you can use it as a bounce to your SI agents, its also a descent 2 drop. Hard part here is the combo mechanic.
