I'm a little concerned about confusion when discussing or writing about Deathwing.
I suggest that, to prevent problems, we refer to this Deathwing as "Charlie."
Charlie? That would be a missed opportunity! If anything, we should call it a natural leader name, the obvious choice being "Simon"
"Simon says we all come into the board and stomp this sucka"
Of course, Simon didn't die to be followed, If I only could think about a famous historical figure whose death eventually inspired many to follow him...
Actually I read up on this page every day :) It just bothers me that they chose to go in this direction rather than just making new minions. I understand that "the old minions got corrupted" and so on, but it's not like we get to see this change happen (like in wow). All we see is new cards with the same minions. Also it's wierd when you play for instance Rag -Firelord and -Lightlord on the same board. In my mind Ragnaros is ONE minion.
Deathwing, Dragonlord + Deathwingin hand is gonna be epic. Works great with other cards like Ysera or Chromaggus. Much better than the original one, who would destroy everything and discard your hand, just to be killed by Big Game Hunter. Can't wait to play this.
On the topic of the card's effect... think of him as a Voidcaller for your Ysera. That card saw play despite being costly, right?
Good comparison, yeah it's basically Voidcaller on crack. Ysera most definitely sees play, it's a staple of Dragon decks and control decks alike.
It's an okay comparison. Void caller was good because you could cheat out bigger demons on much earlier turns than normal. And on later turns you could play it and do other things and still get a larger body. The trade off here is that you can get many large bodies but are stuck doing nothing else that turn most times.
Most people think this will be a great card but ... we will have to wait and see.
1) 1st you have to survive till turn 10 to play this card. With healbot and belcher gone it might be an issue. Aggro decks also lost some good cards but aggro always finds a way.
2) As many other big cards, it does nothing the turn it comes into play. Your opponent can hex it, polymorph it , hide behind taunts or even completely ignore it if he is high on health (and silence it). People might say tirion also does nothing the turn it comes into play but people vote tirion as one of the best legendaries in the game. True but tirion has taunt and divine shield. You can't simple ignore him or hide behind taunts and go face. You need silence to do that.
3) It has too much health for a minion with deathrattle . Sneeds, wobbling runs have the same problem, insane value but they must die first. For this to happen your opponent must kill them. And because you play a card like Deathwing dragonlord in your deck , it means you are playing a control deck. So 99% of the times by turn 10 your opponent will be at 20+ and you will be at 10 (if you are alive) . So your opponent will ignore it (or it will make it follow the rules :p)
4) As a control player most of the times you have 1-2 minions on board. You do that because a) you don't have enough mana to play more minions :P and because you want to make your opponent board clears useless. You don't want at any point to get hit by an equality, lightbomb or the new warlock spell for more than 2 minions. You don't need more minions on board. As a control player your minions are very threatening. Why risk a board clear?
So let's say your opponent isn't high enough on health so he is forced to clear your deathwing. we have 2 scenarios. You have a lot of dragons in your hand so you summon 3-4 minions on board now. Your opponent plays a board clear and you lose the game. I wrote the same things for varian. VS aggro decks if you are alive on turn 10 you don't need a card like varian or deathwing. You need a card that has an impact on board. If you stay alive for 1-2 more turns you will win the game anyway. Vs control decks you risk a board clear. Varian was even worse because you were getting closer to fatigue as well.
The 2nd thing that might happen is to have only a big dragon in your hand (or 2 doesn't really matter). People dream is to play deathwing, deathwing summons malygos, ysera etc. But here we come to a win more situation. If your opponent doesn't have any hard removal for your deathwing, it means it doesn't have hard removal for your malygos. If he clears deathwing it means he can't kill you next turn. it also means he doesn't have much power on board anymore because he traded most of his minions for deathwing. So just play your malygos for 9 mana. no big deal.
Once again we are missing more than half of the cards from the new set. We also don't know about the upcoming nerfs. So deathwing dragonlord might see play after all. But from my experience in HS for 2.5 years unless meta changed by a lot i don't see this card in any competitive deck. People will try it like varian but it will be too slow
if a card that comes into play, clears the whole fucking board, and leaves a 12/12 behind doesnt see play just because it is a 10 mana one, why on earth do you guys think a 10 mana dude that does literally nothing is "very good"?????
This was my worry as well.
Again, because first DW is one way ticket, when you discard your entire hand. I would play him in some decks if he would discard both hands or left both hands untouched. It's much easier to justify 10 which is just slow, and don't leave you at point of no return, because most of the time i can easily handle that slow pace. (For example most of my Handlock games reach past 10 turn easily.)
I am sorry let me clarify. This card comes out and does nothing, nothing at all that turn. You have spent your whole turn not clearing, not taunting up, and not drawing. IF you have a decent board and can make some good trades then fine, you have gained yourself some tempo. If you are behind or can't make good trades you have taken up your entire turn (if you didn't cheat this guy out somehow) casting him and now they have an entire turn to either kill you, deal with Deathwing or put you into lethal range if they are far enough ahead on life or a combination of these things.
Yes handlock games can go awhile, but he question was never "can you get to turn 10 or further", the question is can you afford to just plop this guy out and loose tempo. In the late game, generally the answer is no, you can't.
I do agree that this guy in most situation is better than the old Deathwing since you can just auto loose to removal where you may not here, I just don't think that that fact makes this guy "good".
Ok i can agreee with most, but with not everything. Because even in current meta there times when I run easily to point, when both of players are exhausted and I'm just drop things to not lose tempo with not playing anything than to removing actual board, because there is none. Getting huge body can be also a tempo gain, which is especially punishing, when game comes to that exhaust moments. And for that i see world in which i hate my life when oponent dropped Dragonlord. And because that topdeck strugges or just minion drops because we're both out of removal or games where one side constantly drop something, where second side removing it at bay are in something like 35-40% matches of mine there is moment, when i consider that card as at least strong. Especialy because it allows to break it some way that removal chain, which sometimes is infuriating.
If you are to the exahust part of the game where you are just dropping things I feel there are better deck options. N'zoth for one, and before you talk about the N'zoth plus Dragonlord compatiability remember that would have to be two turn ten drops you have to run and the first deathwing has to die, additionally there is only one other dragon with deathrattle making a dragon deathrattle deck dubious.
Additionally I feel like there are simply better options because if you are to that exhaust point you are both pretty close to just top decking, which is a position where this guy loses a lot of value. Also Deathwing the original is a much much better top deck because it actually steals tempo back in those situations.
Well, I'm not happy with that. It's game breaking if you don't have Polymorph/Mind Control/Hex.
That should be the tenth time, as an intensive Rogue player, that I feel like lifting mountains to counter worse and worse "1 card it's over" things. Now the only "valuable" answer is a least two combo card such as BGH (if it doesn't die) + Vanish or Pit Snake + Vanish (just kidding will never happen), or Prep/Assassinate/Vanish (Oh the intense value ! Do you smell your lose?) and sap barely save you one turn. Well you could maybe just sit and enjoy you death while sipping some... Tea ? (If you know which I mean).
Mill rogue could be the only one laughing at this. Very controlish deck will play that, and you should be able to mill regularly or with Vanish. Not sure if Mill rogue will survive Deathlord/Sludge goodbye though.
you realise that if he spends his turn playing this and you sap it it doesn't just save you one turn right? it may give you the game straight away sap in insanely strong against death rattle/ no battlecry minions. With that being said, if blizzard want us to play control archetype as rogue and doesn't give us more tool for it, then yes your fear is highly justified.
This shit is going to be so annoying. I hate it already. I don't know why — I think it's awesome, obviously — but this thing just pisses me off. If I win with it I'll feel like a psychotic asshole, and when I lose to it I'll feel victimized by psychotic asshole dragons. FeelsBadMan

I like "Charlie"--sweet and sort of sad, like he really wants to be your friend and tries hard but in the end is sort of a dork.
(Sorry, no offense meant to any Charlies who may be reading this thread.)

Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the end, xD

Woah WOAH WOAH THATS A CARD!
I can already see trolden videos of someone pulling Ysera/Malygos/Nefarian/Deathwing/Cromaggus in one go
