Blizzard "alow" people to play this game for free because they know they can sell a fuckton of packs and the adventure modes. League of Legends and Dota, Smite and a ton of other games are free, that all have things you can buy. It's how you hook people. Give them something free and dangle cool shit with a price tag in front of their face. Soon enough, you've got $50 from the people who play your "free" game. It's how games like Candy Crush make so much money, advertising aside.
If you honestly think that you have any valid points here, you're sorely fucking mistaken, kiddo.
Why not just be happy that the game is free to plat, and they are actually giving us free stuff? So what if it is not a card pack? Its christmas, i love that its different, and it is not something they do to get more money, because the cheap option would not be to design a card back. Why not be happy that they spend the time and made something special?
Because it does nothing to improve my deck or card collection.
Blizzard takes you out to burgers every week. Except just for this week, since its a special occasion, instead of a burger, it's at an expensive ass fancy restaurant.
And apparently, no one wants that garbage, gimme the burger instead.
come on guys, are you seriously complaining about this, i like a cool card back more then my standard 40 dust...
Issue is: Not all card backs are equal.
The older the card back is the rarer it is hence the very first Pandaria card back is rarer and as a result more prestigous than the winterveil one they just released. Then you have HC adventures proving you can netdeck and have a collection but even those require some effort so yeah they're considered better than a seasonal card back and finally you have the Esports / Legend card backs which show you're actually good at hearthstone and its a symbol of respect to a lot of players.
So why would anyone care about a freshly released card back they'll never use when they probably have a cardback that other players A) Respect more B) Is rarer. Meanwhile 40 dust is useful regardless of your point in game as you can use it to build golden collection + fill in joke legendaries
Respect card backs?... ha ha, I couldn't give a shit what card back another player has. They mean nothing to me.
I respect the element of surprise. When someone plays a deck I've never encountered and pulls off something unexpected to win against me.
As for the Brawl, I'd prefer a free pack but I can manage without it.
you maybe dont care, but if i see someone playing with the first card back that was available that means that this player has been playing for a lot of time, and is probable that he or she has good cards and knows how to play. if i see someone with a legend card back is not the same, a lot of people have that cardback and new ones appear each month and maybe they have gained it playing face hunter, but the pandaria cardback has lot of value.
this card back... who cares? is cool to have one more card back, but thats it, people are going to use it until january and them they will use the new one and this one is going to be forgotten until next year or maybe forever.
The brawl is pretty terrible. First game my opponent played a King Krush out of a gift on turn 4. GG...I conceded. Next game my opponent conceded after I dropped some other legendary (I don't even remember the game was over so fast) on turn 3. Haven't played another game. To me it just seems like a race to the first gift and whatever bomb drops out of it.
To everybody that's salty about getting one freebie instead of another, the Feast of Winterveil goes on for several weeks, remember? There's a good chance that the gifts will get better as it goes on...which is pretty standard practice for MMOs around the holidays. Even if not, you weren't getting the free pack a few months ago, so I think you can deal with a cardback instead. If you're that hard up for a free $2 pack of virtual cards, you probably ought to re-prioritize your time.
It's like everyone forgets that the free packs for Brawl were intended as a limited time thing anyway. It's entirely possible that we won't get any more free packs for them in the future. And it won't be the player getting ripped off because we've still gotten 4 months or so worth of brawls that gave us free packs. They've given us so many free packs that now we feel entitled to them.
Well we're not. Blizzard instead tried to give us a nice new card back that someone actually spent the time to design. It took more effort and money than just giving us a pack. I mean, personally I think it's ugly and I don't ever intend to use it, but I appreciate the thought.
Well as a ftp player, i just want to say if blizzard did this cardback instead of pack in other event, I really would not have mind.
But its Christmas and every player expect something bit more than what they get usually. So seeing other ftp player making comments is not invalid.
In this Christmas, all that a ftp player has got is a cardback from hearthstone which doesn't happens in other games as other games celebrates its success in Christmas by offering even to ftp player.
Does this tavern brawl reward disappointed me? a little coz it is not a Christmas reward but a substitute of reward that we used to get. We are not getting even 1% more in this Christmas event if compared with normal days.
Is the complain of ftp player is valid? Yes
What blizzard should have done? given both card back and a pack
Am I one of few people that don't complain about getting anything from the brawl? Like personally I'm just as happy with the card back as I would have been with a pack, then again I'm pretty unlucky with card pack openings and rarely get anything. Can't even the follow 1 in every 20 legendaries rule right ;/
The free packs, daily quests, constructed chests give incentive to play. People say that you complain for not getting free stuff, but it's a complaint that blizzard is interested in. Good business give you just enough for free to make the game playable for free and keep you interested. The game grows, has a healthy community that doesn't dwindle down and the longer players keep interest in this game the bigger chance there is that they might spend some money. Don't think that blizzard does this just to be nice.
I did appreciate a new cardback for a victory instead of a pack. To me at least, it made this tavern brawl feel a wee-bit more special than prior ones. :)
Unless they're brand spanking new (like, less than a month in) this isn't that much of a setback. Cardbacks are worth considerably more anyway. (Can't craft or disenchant)

Just a card-back? Seriously? Just a card-back? What the actual fuck, Blizzard? You give away free shit, but it isn't enough. Why not both a free pack and a card-back? Would that be too difficult? Why not give us some free packs on Christmas day too? Perhaps you can give us all of the card-backs we're missing.
I swear man, people will find a way to bitch about ANYTHING. Even free shit... Some people's kids, man. Some people's kids. smh

Yeah i saw a guy who reached legend with no cards but a nice card back... sure.
Did he reach legend on the back of a single card pack?

today i have used the winter veil cardback on ranked, my opponents conceded without even playing, i was rank 20 and now i am rank 2 and i dont even know what cards are in my deck because i dont get to draw before i have already win! i would have continue to legend, but there was one guy who played with a pandaria cardback and i conceded automatically to that.

I hope you understand the fundamental difference between something that MIGHT help you improve your deck/play/collection and something that in no way ever will ?
And I hope everyone understands that whining over free content is ridiculous to begin with. As if Blizzard "owes" us something. Yes, cards (which these days for me are basically dust) help but, out of one pack? A single pack? We're crying over a single pack?

If you think that this game is PtW, you don't seem to understand the concept of Pay-to-Win games. Yes, the time investment to be a completely free player is huge, and it is designed that way on purpose to help drive profits, because...
If you think that FtP game isn't trying to make money, then you're insane. Profits keep the game running and pay the developers. Every FtP game is profit-driven. Some only as playable ads to get people to support the developers, but any FtP game of this scale is going to trying to drive sales. And the key is: there is nothing wrong with that. Blizzard is not a charity, they aren't making this game out of the goodness of their heart. They are game developers, and that is a profit-driven business.
If you feel that the developers owe you for playing their game without pitching in a cent, you are simply wrong. If you don't like the game enough to pay for it, and find the FtP game too grindy for your liking, then this game doesn't seem to be for you. You aren't entitled to free stuff because you don't like the product.
It was nice of them to give us as many free packs as they have for Brawls, and it will be nice if they give us more in the future (personally I don't think they will). As I and others have said over the many threads covering this, the free packs were meant as a temporary reward. If they aren't gone for good now, they will be one day. If it makes the game untenable for you after that, you quit. Sucks but such is life (happened to me with MTGO and Pox Nora). If people do that instead of whining about how they want free stuff, then the devs will have to fix the game or let it go under. Or they'll discover that they're not enough in the majority and, again, the game just was not designed to their liking.
And if you think Blizzard owes you something for Xmas, they ain't Santa Clause. Bah Humbug.
And on a sidenote: hart7668: I don't think you deserve all the roasting you're getting, but at least it's largely amusingly written.

You do realize MTGO is alot more expensive, i would estimate about 150$/month if you want to stay competetive.
Strive for constant improvement and achieve your full potential.
