Hello ill make this quick as possible im a Wow/Hs veteran i have 5 gold heroes 3 over 1k wins even been playing since launch ive only recently gotten into battlegrounds I understand its a different beast and a slot machine but what gets me is every single thing I read online says always level up on 2 and focus on a late game plan more then being ahead in the beginning and to ignore tribes don't force them only go for stats until late well im here to tell you thats crazy because everytime I try to follow these guidelines and builds my opponents get perfect tribes and have 50/50s plus every game I get top 4 easily 70% of the time honestly my issue is how do people get perfect tribes? When everything i read says thats bad...if its so bad why does it beat me everytime this guy had a full board of Murlocs all 20/20 plus before we were even at 10 gold....it doesn't make any sense one game a voljin had 4 dragons one of which was gold on turn 4 so 7 gold that absolutely does not happen for me ever I don't understand it is it because they buy perks? And that gives them better rng? Cause if moneys all it is ill gladly Uninstall tonight also to be fair im on mobile my cpu died and my A.P.M isint the best because of that but even with this handicap it makes no sense they have perfect unbeatable tribes everytime and I have random mixed up bull crap I want honest answers people please im desperate why does all the strats online contradict what im seeing in game at this point I want to ignore leveling and only go for triples because thats whats beating me in my heart I know thats wrong and a very linear way of playing but it works for them so why even try???
I had to skim past some of that wall of text, but the "ignore everything and hunt a 5*" was the correct game plan a few months ago. Not any more.
The meta game changes with every patch, currently heroes have diverse strategies, but usually you need to start scaling as early as possible and then gradually replace your utility units with better equivalents.
Battlegrounds is stat scaling simulator these days. So find some good minions that scale up with stats early and build around it. Or if you get George then divine shield/poisonous murlocs usually wins against other builds.
It depends on the hero you play whether you want to level up at turn 2. In most cases I do level up. The further levelling depends on the luck you get with early game minions.
If you get some good minions and you have a strong early game, you can skip buying minions in a turn to get a higher level quicker than the rest. Which might give you some advantage for late game plays.
If you don't get good minions, you level up on the obvious levels.
Don't try to get stuck in a single minded gameplay. Look at what you are offered. You need to realise in a game with 8 players there are 5 people usually unlucky, two are lucky and 1 is overpowered lucky. You should always be happy with a top 4 result. If you did better than 4th place, you had a good game.
On average you should win 1 in 8 games if you play well.
The best strategy depends a lot on the hero (and in particular the cost of your hero power), but even more on the tribles that are in play each game. There are a few buildaround minions that you want to get as soon as possible. Many of them are in t4, some are in t5, a few even in t3. So with most heroes a better strategy is to stay on t1 for a few turns looking for doubles and eventually triples (as well as for tokens to facilitate your curve) and once you get a triple you can either hold it in hand or freeze it in the tavern until you get to your desired tavern tier. Then look to discover stuff like Doomsayer, Lightspawn, Tarecgosa+Promo-Drake, etc... and start building and scaling your endgame comp as early as possible
The basic strategy for Battlegrounds is waste as little resources as possible refreshing so you have more chance of completing your build later. Buy a random minion for 3 gold and leave in your hand rather than searching for something, let your build come to you and use those extra minions at critical moments.
You build what you get. If you try to to build something specific you are most of the time crippling yourself. You cant just start a game and play dragons, bob decides what you build.
To adopt to his offering is the most important skill.
Tribe synergie is massive nowadays, though often in late game you change everything.
The Goal is allways to reach top 4 and many akward builds are good enough.
In general, there is no rule of thumb, bg has a truckload of factors to consider, my personal "rule" is, as said above, build what you get.
My guess is that you've been reading advice that's a little dated.
First of all you have to get familiar with the various minions and the various builds, once you have taken this familiarity you can begin to study the openings or "curves". The standard opening (level up to 4, 7 and 9 coins) has recently started to lose appeal and at the moment is recommended only with some heroes (not many).
For a precise list of openings there is a document written by Minder, which explains in detail the purpose and advantages of each curve. I recommend you read it.
I personally reworked the data to make it a bit more readable (for me) and to better understand the curves. (similarly to what is done in the world of chess, where there are openings and transpositions)
For this reason, I have broken down the curves by when they go up (2 on x, 3 on x). The most popular curves at the moment have their names in deep green.
The curves are not universal, in the sense that some need certain tribes to work at their best, or even to be played (e.g. for 4 on 4 you need a token) and others work only with certain HP.
In my list [not exhaustive, at the moment there are 2 playable curves ("fast standard curve" and "sleepy curve") and a series of curves specific to individual heroes] you should find the information strictly necessary, while in Minder's list you should find additional information and explanations.(for me superfluous at the moment)
Always keep in mind that the curves are indications and that in certain situations you will play outside of these curves, because the most important thing in BG is to adapt to what Bob proposes.
I hope I've been helpful, if you have any questions don't hesitate.
EDIT: Some words in my excel are in french, so: achat = purchase et = and puissant = strong
