I played it a couple times. Wasn't fun. Doesn't generate money for Blizz. Just a waste of manpower IMHO.
I'd much rather they use those resources to make the actual game better. Wouldn't you rather have a tournament mode than battlegrounds? Maybe a better casual mode? (you know, one that is casual) I for one would vastly prefer a single player mode like Hextcg has.
Maybe I'm alone in this. But, the battlegrounds mode is just stupid. It's like a game of war (the card game). And the only reason folks haven't noticed yet is that they constantly change the cards. But, it's still war, just slightly different versions each couple weeks. I mean, I guess I played a lot of war when I was 5yo, but I can't imagine wanting to play it now unless I"m entertaining a 5yo. And that to me is the game mode they have invested in, and continue to invest in heavily.
Replace" battlegrounds" with "games" and your point is equally valid.

well theyve been taking people off of the hs team to work on the standalone so they must not view it as much of a waste of time as you do
Nerf pizza Bliz! Too many ppl eat it. Isnt fair the dinner meta revolves around facing ppl who want pizza like every night. As a Thai Pad main how am I supposed to compete???
I actually enjoy it as plan B, when the meta turn to be too boring with the majority of players playing the same thing i enjoy pass my time to BG. not perfect game, but can be more fun than some toxic meta.
I don't like Battlegrounds either. If I get the daily to play two battlegrounds I instantly reroll it.
That doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. It obviously has its fan base. And I think it brings in more players to the game. I just personally don't like playing it. But someone else might like playing it and more power to that person!
It's not war (the card game). I've said it before - it's Candy Crush. Just quick pattern recognition and a lot of swiping. It's a mindless mode, which appeals to a lot of people.
Battlegrounds is the main reason I open Hearthstone right now. After a few BGs, I end up playing some Constructed and maybe an arena or two. It serves the exact same purpose as Tavern Brawls do; it pulls people in to the app where they end up maybe spending money. So while BGs don't generate money on their own, they increase eyes-on-screen which converts in to a additional purchases of packs (at a rate that I'm sure the BAs at Blizzard know down to the penny).
In business terms, it's called "ARPU". There are number of ways to increase your revenue once it stagnates. You can either increase how much each user spends, or you can increase how many users you have. If BGs increase your average daily users, you are typically increasing your revenue with a small hit to your average spend.
I'm sorry if you don't enjoy BGs. That means you're not the target audience. But it's getting a lot of playtime and a lot of stream time. It also helps Hearthstone at a time where things like TFT were pulling people away. The small investment they've put in to the game by creating BGs will help keep it competitive in a constantly evolving market. Even if you hate the mode, you should be happy that it exists and shows that they are thinking of ways to expand its appeal. We don't want to see Hearthstone turn in to another HoTS, where is gets little love from Blizzard because it couldn't hold enough market share.
If you don't like it then.....don't play it and let others enjoy it? Else, apply for team lead at Blizzard to make the political decisions.
I personally like BG due to the quicker gameplay and decision making, making it strategic yet casual at the same time. It takes a lot of skill for someone to be in the 10k mmr. You can look at it as a marathon race rather than a sprint in order to play well. Just like poker.
BGs cuts out an element of RNG in the way the the arena did - the better players tend to do better over time. In regular constructed I have to take losses against timmys I could do nothing about because they drew the nuts/hard countered me/horrible RNG/they, like 80% of others are playing the msot broken meta deck out there that compensates for having no real clue how to play the game properly/etc etc
...then on top of this I have to sit there and take it becasue, fucking hell is the game slow compared to battlegrounds. Glacially slow in fact.
BGs needs new cards, and alterations to stay fresh - currently people are getting rather tired of seeing huge demons...poisonous or bust stopped being fun, but yeah they'll change it up again soon.
More than anything I just can't cope with how slow main hearthstone is anymore, thanks to BGs. It's not ok to be that slow, when I'm sometimes in games I know for 90% sure i have lost, maybe as early as turn 2 or 3...but I have to play it out....and...jesus, where is my will to live going....going....going....
I love Battlegrounds. It seems from your argument that you haven't understood the concept of an autobattler at all.
And since they can't seem to make standard bearable it's the less rng mode there is right now.
They are a few balance patches from it beeing grear, and it needs one or two more minion types.
But it's still beta so
Maybe I havent. Seems to me the concept is to maximize the amount of stats you put on the board. (with minor exceptions like poisonous/divine shield) Did I miss the point?
I think the reason these threads keep popping up is because you have those that believe it’s an rng fiesta (it is) and those that believe it is skill based (it is)”
Individually each game is a purely rng. What minions you get, when you get them, and can you guess correctly based on further events.
Over many hours and hours of play, playing an optimized line , and hoping your opponents don’t, you can gain some advantage.
Basicslly it’s poker. Consistency is key.
so those that say it’s a waste of time you probably aren’t playing enough to start taking advantage of others mistakes. streamers play for hours every day, expierence huge losing streaks, get tilted, then come back and do it the next day.
I like battlegrounds, I used to play it more than I do now. I want to get back into it when it isn’t a “most demons win” meta. It was murlocs when amalgam was here, mechs when junkbot was better and beasts before that. Basically they are rotating tribes. I just think demons is my personal least favorite tribe.
Battlegrounds could be good if they made more than one tribe( not even balanced) viable. They are close now as the no tag tribe with Tirion is getting good enough to defeat demons, but it is still dependent on which hero (Tirion or not Tirion) can challenge demons. It’s still a nice distraction of hunter v priest that is standard.

I think yes, a computer can be made to play a nice game of poker. But, what separates poker from battlegrounds is that in poker you can bluff. That makes a game within the game possible to exploit, and probably is a lot more important than simply making the best play every turn in like a computer algorithm.

BG is insanely fun for me and my kids. Love it and hope they pump more money into it. No issues if they monetize it somehow either.

Tbh I think battlegrounds is for 5 year olds since all they have to do is let the stuff play out.

BG is obviously not for my age group but, if you enjoy it, go ahead.
You are not alone. Battlegrounds is annoying, repetitive, boring RnG bullshit, nothing more, nothing less.
Dead but dreaming
iff you dont like, dont play...
