Obviously it doesn't work but I'm sure that some people have dreamed that: As Seek Guidance starts in the opening hand; and is therefore not "in the deck" at the start of the game, it shouldn't count as a Shadow Spell and would grant Darkbishop Benedictus' benefit.
My question is: Would these cards actually benefit each other?
It seems unfair to be unable to use both United in Stormwind Priest Legendaries in the same deck, and since Shadow Priest would not longer have to win via the board I'm thinking that cards like the Shadowcloth Needle, and Devouring Plague could be viable cards in this hypothetical archetype. That, and the ability to discover a card from after each step of the quest, could be quite powerful. Thrive in the Shadows, Initiation, Psyche Split, are some cards I could also see working in a Quest/Shadow deck.
Would this be enough to push Seek Guidance up a tier? Would this type of deck be more enjoyable to play? How about playing against it?
Thanks for reading and let me know your thoughts xx.
This board is full of priest haters. They don't won't allow priests to climb up on tier.
But, seriously, priest cards are a mess. How in the hell most classes are able to complete their quests on turn 4 but priests Can't do it before turn 7.
I'm going to say no, since this would just be quest priest with shadowform, exclusively shadow spells, and a 5 mana 5/6 in the deck, which I think would actually be counterproductive to the viability of the archetype since quest priest is decidedly control oriented and needs to live in order to achieve its win condition. As such, shadowform doesn't do anything for the deck: you're not trying to kill your opponent with face damage as quest priest, you're trying to outlast them so you can complete your quest. So not being able to heal with your HP is actually quite detrimental, and limiting the deck to shadow spells is equally if not even more so in that it detracts from normal quest priests flexibility and overall power level. It's an interesting idea, but ultimately I don't see it working due to the diametrically opposed nature of how quest priest and shadow priest achieve their win conditions.
I tried Shadow Control Priest in Casual mode, and it is somewhat working to certain extent... but definitely not viable ready for competitive ladder yet...
Control Priest decks need healing, and since the hero power is now used for dealing damage, Shadow Priest needs more Shadow Lifesteal spells such as Void Shard and Devouring Plague
Shadowcloth Needle is a great AoE to deal with early flow of minions in Aggro decks, but Shadow Priest need a bigger Shadow AoE tool for late-game threats.....
Lastly, as always, a win condition related to Shadow spells or hero power would be ideal as a big reward for running Darkbishop Benedictus
P/S: in before Blizzard prints a Priest legendary with Battlecry: Repeat all Shadow spells you played this game (on random targets)....
Thanks for the input guys; its interesting to see everyone's thoughts on this: from the scanning of the deck being the stipulation for card/deck effects; to the variance in these decks' playstyles, to thoughts on useful spells in each deck-type.
I like Quest Priest but it sucks; I'm guessing until the next expansion when its key cards get nerfed.
Have to say I don't like having to play Watchposts, Cult Neophytes, Rustrot Vipers, Ogremancers to win games these days: Its like opposing/countering playstyles instead of reacting to them and it makes the game either one-sided or frustrating.
Alas though; we have what we're given and I guess the devs do well with the design limitations they have. I could go on all day about the "RNG" of the game, but let's save that to later.

I’m pretty sure cards like Darkbishop Benedictus (Reno Jackson, Alexstrasza the Life-Binder, Zephrys the Great, etc) scan your whole deck INCLUDING your mulligan hand after you jump into the game so I don’t your theory right, mechanic-wise that is.

Peace and Namasté and all that xx.
