After losing many matches vs freeze mage (doomsayer frost nova) i start wondering: why a controllish class like paladin is not worthed a single target removal? I think right now is it's only weakness. Even druid has one, naturalize, which is bad, but still serve it's purpose. Rogue got the new minion that destroy something when comboes and the spell that gives poisonus to his weapon, warrior has plenty of removal, same for mage, priest and warlock. Shaman has the best single removal ever printed. Hunter has deadly shot, which is random, but being an aggro class and not a control one is fine. And then there is the poor paladin, that in order to destroy something has to play equality, making his own board vulnerable to any AoE. Is this gonna be fixed in the next expansion? What sort of removal (or silence) would you like to see? In my opinion to fit the style of the class should be something like "target minion loses X health"
Classes need their weakness though and I think this is the trade off paladin gets for such strong board control mixed with weapons and strong heals. Paladin gets both weapons and secrets as well. A big part of playing control paladin is just not over committing in the board in the first place in order to deny the opponent the clear. If you can force them to freeze doomsayer when you still have a flush hand its forcing them to use two cards and lose tempo in exchange for slowing the game down. In the freeze mage match try to use your weapons to force in damage and break those ice blocks. They don't really run heals and instead rely on the blocks to save them. Just race them down.
What are you talking about?Strategy of racing freeze mage to death works very rarely as a paladin. You can pop one block, sometimes even two,but that is often the turn you die from his spells. You just get him to 1 health and play eye for an eye, then do completely nothing.
As for a single removal that idea with reducing a minions health by a certain number sounds interesting.
Sure if you run eye for an eye but most control paladin lists don't. So I was talking about how to deal with them in that case. If you just sit back and try to play the long control game they just hit their combo pieces and kill you.
I would say Humility is a better card than Naturalize, and essentially exists for the same purpose of board control except Naturalize has a much worse downside and long term repercussion.
well nobody runs eye for an eye,but you have 84% of getting one from hydrologist, not guaranteed, but it's the best way and it is so satisfying when you just hit end turn constantly;)
Makes sense. Sorry I hadn't thought about hydrologist.
Pretty much every control Paladin right now runs 2x Hydrologist. You have a 60% chance of getting Eye for an Eye each time, so you're pretty likely to get one. Control Paladin should have an 80+% win rate against freeze mage. You can can also get rid of doomsayer with equality and concentration or pyromancer or a weapon. There's also now Sunkeeper Tareem plus a weapon.
Each class is suppose to have strengths and weaknesses.
You've located one of Paladin's weaknesses. While they have durable weapons and durable minions, they also don't have very efficient spot removal. But don't forget some of their basic cards that actually is direct spot removal. Like Hamer of Wrath.
True. Single earlygame minions that can get out of control like Flamethoung,Manawyrm,or the hyena are rly hard to deal with as Paladin, but a singletarget removal wouldn't fit into pally(maybe with a healing sideeffect? But they would make it super expensive cause it would have to cost more than asassinate.)
I guess one day pally gets a two mana deal three dmg spel(plus a small heal)wich is pretty close to a good removal.

I'd love to see this spell. Almost like Quick Shot with a Paladin spin to it.
As a few people have said, most classes have specific weaknesses to counter their strengths. Rogue lacks healing and a great board clear, Hunter will probably never be a great control class because of almost no card draw or heal, Druid lacks great hard removal and Swipe is decent but not the best, and Paladin lacks hard removal against minions with passive abilities such as Scavenging Hyena or Ysera.

Stampeding Kodo don't solve your problem? Works nice in paladin.
Sure works fine vs doomsayer, but remain a random effect. Why can't this class have a proper removal?

Why am I sticky?
Why not have a game without classes? Then you can have all the single target removal you want.
Why am I sticky?
....true silver??

Bring back the Sorry emote!
That's because it's the flavor of the class not to have single target removal, just like rogue doesn't have board clears, or hunter has no card draw.
Paladin manages minions mostly with debuffs, weapons, and trading minions.
