I too have been having alot of problems with midrange hunter. I made it to rank 10 easily, then started a massive losing streak. Nothing was working. I was losing to every type of deck. I haven't been able to get above rank 16 since. WTF am I doing wrong?
One big problem is that I can't get any big minions (highmane, Boom, etc.) to stick. They always get immediately destroyed.
I hear ya. Since my changes I've made it to rank 8 but am stuck there. It gets exponentially harder as you go from 12-10, 10-8, etc. I agree on the big minions having trouble sticking. To solve some of that, I make SURE I have board control early which makes it so they have to waste resources clearing a minion, they have to probably leave several small minions out there. It does work sometimes.
What I have found too is that this deck can NOT be played like a face deck at all. Some of the deck descriptions claim that this deck should be played very agressively. I disagree. You need to keep the board fairly clean and sneak in a few face hits until the middle turns where you start to transition to hammering face. If you go face too early or often.... You could run out steam if they have AoE spells or matching minions. You'll lose. Or, you'll get stuck playing single big minions like boom or highmane and these get removed easily. With several other minions on board they are somewhat protected. Nothing better than a turn 5 sludge followed by a highmane next turn. It's a killer....;). Two juicy minions that need attention right away. That's why I love sludge in this deck. He helps setup your late game by being a serious pain in the ass. Slows down aggro too if you're facing a pesky much Mage or Eboladin.
Damnit, damnit! Losing streak just kicked in and its against classes I usually beat. Fuck. I swear the draw is soooooooo incedibly important at these higher ranks. One bad card or a bad mulligan and you are done. The only class Im beating at this level is Priests. Im like 10-0 against Priests but for the life of me I cannot beat other Hunters(face or hybrid) and recently lost to a bull shit Shaman which is usually an automatic win. Also lost to a Rogue - how embarasing is THAT?
Ugh. It was going so well too - one star away from Rank 8.... back to 10 and its not looking good. Just wish I knew what to change in the deck but there just isnt anything. Im afarid to remove the Sludge Belchers because as soon as I do I know Ill wish I had them. But, I might go down to one and lower my mana curve a bit with a ood 2-3 drop. Not sure yet.
Might have to see how facehunter does, why not right?
If I hit 3 loses in a row, I call it and stop playing there. Its frustrating cos you want to keep going and get back but best to stop.
Mulliganed my whole hand the other days cos it was terrible (4,5,6 drops). Then I got 1 Hunters Mark and 2 Houndmasters, lol. Considered conceding but just played fgor the hell of it. Top decked some great cards and won the game on turn 7 using all cards from my starting hand.
Might have to see how facehunter does, why not right?
Sorry if I don't undestand some form of sarcasm in this sentence.. so I'll ask an honest question
why not?
also: as you might already know, I do play more facy cousing of your deck D: and like it.
Not sarcastic at all. I enjoy playing Facehunter and just reeled off a few wins using it against a shaman and a paladin that might have beaten me if I had the slower mid range deck. :)
It's strenght is against decks with little to no heals and taunts, wich means it's perfect against aggro decks (like mage you just mentioned) So it's crucial to not play it if the meta is alot of control decks like priest and warrior. But the rest should be quite easy to beat.
I have come to realise that every competitive list has some form or taunt/heal, board sweeper or control element that might ruin an all-in strategy, but i'm currently playing Hybrid to nice results
Also, stop coming onto the forums to complain that you have lost 3 games, it happens. People (including myself) regularly fall down ranks. Sometimes you will draw in such a way that you can't do anything. That might happen five games in a row. Statistically, it HAS to happen at SOME point. View that as a good thing, that hopefully your loss streak is over. If, like you say, you are playing everything 100% correctly and your deck is perfect, you HAVE to lose some games. I think the very best players in the game can't maintain above 70% win ratio (someone please correct me if I'm wrong!) You are going to lose some of the time, sometimes spectacularly.
Sorry, just like to keep posts up to date on how it's going. Agree on the streaks though, they WILL happen, for wins and losses.
-1 Flare (Is a bad card. Even if you get five secrets off it, you have still not really accomplished anything with it. Waste of 2 mana, Quick Shot is better).
-2 Sludge Belcher (Doesn't help accomplish what this deck is trying to achieve. 1 might be nice Tech but 2 is was overkill. You are just increasing your chances of dead draws early game. Bad idea if the reason you included him was to fight off aggro, he doesn't accomplish that here).
+1 Quick Shot (You NEED to pay this card. Is better than Flare in every way. Anyone who plays Midrange Hunter at high level will agree with me).
+1 Explosive Trap (Is FAR FAR superior than Belcher here. Is effectively your only way to win against one of, if not the, worst matchup Face Hunter. Having three traps also allows you to play double mad Scientist if the situation arrises).
+1 Hunters Mark (If you keep a Belcher).
I still recommend Argent Horserider. Card was made for this deck.Give you a solid 3 drop part from Companion/Bow. Also helps big time against aggro.
.Little things like having Flare in your deck are going to be whats keeping you at the Rank you are.
Not sure if I'd agree on flare being a bad card. It can be a perfect card, IMO. It might just nuke a secret that would have turned the tide on you. You also get a card draw. I like quick shot too though. Also like horse rider and am going to try and work him into the mix. Sludge IS slow but from ranks 13 down to 10 he really did help me out. And, in a slower matchup when you play him and then highmane it's quite the headache for your opponent, especially warriors who drive me nuts.
i appreciate the feedback though. Will be making a few tweaks as per your suggestions.

Thats just the thing, Flare CAN be perfect card, MIGHT do this, when in reality most of the time its 2 mana draw a card, when that could be 2 mana draw card and guaranteed 3 damage. Hunter is all about consistency, that's why it is so strong :) As a rule you want you deck to be consistent as possible, so that means using cards that are good all the time, rather than very good some of the time. For example, I'm sure Rend Blackhand would be better than Dr. Boom in some situations, but you don't use him because boom is far better in more situations/more consistent and overall fits with the deck is trying to accomplish. Most top hunter players seem to agree Flare is unnecessary, but i guess it is down to preference.
On Belcher, Hunter doesn't want to ever stall, most of the time if you have to play defence your are going to lose. Houndmaster offers emergency taunts for less mana and opens up value trades. He is also more aggressive (with a charge for example). You also have Animal Companion at 3 mana. 6 taunts isn't necessary in an aggressive deck. Ive been trying 1 Ram Wrangler as my second 5 drop recently and it's been working nicely. Im still undecided though, as he can go against the rule of cards being good all the time and a sludge Belcher may be better. Who knows. Yet again all down to preference.
These are all suggestions though, glad to hear you are pressing on with the deck though, you will get there eventually. All just trial and error.
Sludge Belcher is usually only used to stall out the game 1-2 turn so that you can draw your burst. However, It is been slightly underpeforming for me and I think I'll get a wrangler

found more with Stranglethorn Tiger, overall because he has the potential to be more aggressive.
thanks for your input, I'll be trying this one in my midrange version as I wasn't really sold on the idea but I get your reasoning for Belcher and Wrangler, so I think Tiger can fit my playstyle better: Beast tag, 5/5, hard to remove.
Great stuff here, guys. I went down to one Belcher and also made room for Argent Horserider(2). I like that card but it seems more tailored to a facehunter deck which I use two of them in :)
Flare? Yeah - I think Flare is a direct esult of the secret Pally issue that weve all run into. I also swear that Flare against a Mage can really screw them up since they always play secrets. Nothing better than stopping a "minion copy" spell or a "hero attack gain 8 health" spell. Overall though it is a situational card where Quickshot is 3 damage ANYWHERE you want to deliver it. :)
This deck is sucking horribly right now. Just went on a massive losing streak. Geeezus Crust. WTF? These god damned Warriors and their UNLIMITED armor is so over the top.... why am I not conceding right away when matched up against these insurmountable foes? What a waste of time. And, it seems to me that these Hunter decks get "figured" out by the end of the month. The last two days Ive been getting mowed down by almost everything. Every deck I play against appears to be built just to stop midrange Hunter. Every deck has heals, lots of taunts, big late game minions, you name it. Getting rather obnoxious now.
Id also like to comment on a few of the card choices. Argent Horserider sucks for this deck. A 2/1 with divine is great for FACE Hunter but not for this deck. Its wimpy and doesnt make any impact. Ive also missed having flare at least twice now against other Hunters. And, I lost to a Hunter due to them getting rid of my freezing trap that I was counting on. I dunno.... ehhh. I guess thats why you have to experiment because some of the choices people have recommended for this deck are simply awful.
Bring on the Priests - I havent lost to a Priest with mid range Hunter since like.... ever. LOL.
Time to use Facehunter for a while, LOL. So far the decks have been all aggro. Just got blasted by a FACE warrior deck. Fuck that shit.... Going FACE!!!!

If you want to try a fast hunter deck, and it's not the regular face hunter, you should try my no hand hunter!

if hunter is all about consistency, and to my knowledge it is, aren't Houndmaster, Ram Wrangler and such, inconsistent and therefore, subpar?
