I searched for Thalnos, didn't see any related thread in that regards. So here it is. Why is it Sylvanas, Ragnaros, Azure Drake, all go wild because "they're in too many decks" but Thalnos didn't go wild? Maybe it's because of my preference to Shaman, but I have seen Thalnos in just about every deck I look at these days, whereas I see zero Sylvanas or Ragnaros. Azure Drake I will say does belong in wild.
Anyway, I just feel like their only requirement for making those cards wild was because they "Showed up in too many decks and became staples", so I wish to see the end of Thalnos too.
And yes, I'm just salty because I don't own it and don't want to pony up 1,600 dust on it lol.

Hearthstone, the only place where Shaman isn't nerfed to hell
I think Sylvanas was moved to the hall of fame because of the cards that were released in this set. She would have been OP had she stuck around. Ragnaros was moved because of hose commonly he was used as well as Azure Drake.
My guess is that it was a close call, but i'm sure Blizzard didn't want to push it too far with the hall of famers. When they rotate more of the classic set out, this will probably go then.
That said, I really like the card and makes low cost spells far more playable.

I don't know man... Maybe in Rogue? MAYBE. But for the actual Deathrattle deck I mean... we have like zero strong deathrattle effects except for Cairne.
Drake is bigger, so harder to kill, you can have two because is rare and grants you immediatly the card draw. There's also the fact that is THE 5-drop minion (with no more belcher and loatheb is harder to find better 5 drops). Sylv and rag are really present in the meta because they're not replaceble, instead thalnos (even because many people refuse to craft it) has generate the biggest question since hearthstone release (better loot hoarder or kobold geomancer? XD)
As someone that's been maining Shaman since Naxxramas and played a ton of Rogue/Mage, Azure Drake is more powerful, flexible, and splashable than Bloodmage Thalnos and it's not even close. Thalnos is run because of Azure Drake, not the other way around. Azure Drake is a card that's passable even if you don't have a single spellpower card in your deck since it's an immediate draw effect with a non-ignoreable body. You can play it on curve and not feel bad about it, whereas playing Bloodmage Thalnos on curve feels awful, not only making it prone to silence but also giving your opponent a free trade most of the time. If you go take a look at every deck Thalnos has ever been included in, you'll find that they almost unanimously have 2x Azure Drake as well. However, there have been plenty of decks out there that use Azure Drake but no Bloodmage Thalnos (for instance, Midrange Druid, Dragon Priest, Dragon Warrior). Azure Drake allows you to run a spell power removal/burn package, the reason Thalnos is in decks is because it compliments Azure Drake and makes your spell power more consistent. Expect to see Thalnos play dwindle for pretty much everyone except maybe Rogue/Mage now that the engine that makes spell power packages work, Azure Drake, is now gone.

As a legendary, Thalnos has a much slighter impact than Sylv or Rag. When you think about it, Sylv was a 4 mana reduction on Mind Control, and it was neutral. What?!? Rag is probably the best neutral legendary the game will see for quite a while. Thalnos really isn't much more than Kobold + Loot Hoarder - Stats.
Azure Drake was simply the best card at it's mana cost, exceeding many class cards. For a long while, Drake outclassed Druid of the Claw, for example. Thalnos isn't that.
In order to make cards better than Drake, they had to start being very high above curve. Plenty of decks don't use Thalnos because a number of 2 drop minions are better.
Considering that Bloodmage Thalnos's effect is very similar to Azure Drake, I wouldn't be surprised if the skeleton in a dress starts showing up even more often now that the drake has moved to wild, making it a good candidate for the next hall of fame.
It wouldn't surprise me if the good Bloodmage ended up in the Hall of Fame at some point - the card deserves it out of respect! He's incredibly versatile and enhances a large population of decks without infringing on Blizzard's design space (as others have pointed out).
I would love to see these Hall of Fame cards end up being cards that everyone can eventually get for free as a login bonus or as a quest goal of some sort. It would be a fun way to help newer players, or players who simply don't have them, experiment with these cards in Wild, Tavern Brawl, etc.

Thalnos don't break the 2 manas curve like Drake break the 5 manas, Sylvannas the 6 manas and Ragnaros the 8 manas.
Cards to be more powerful to compete for the same mana curve will be OP.
He did...
edit; my bad I confused it with the 6 mana 5/5 reduce cost.
no idea.
Thalnos likely isn't as damaging to their design space.
I feel your salt pain though, this has been one of those cards I've wanted for a while, but just don't want to spend the dust on it!
The only reason Thalnos was in Shaman lists is because of Spirit Claws. Apart from that he is good in Rogue, decent in Mage and sometimes Druid.
Hardly the kind of card you can just put in any deck, if you aren't using a lot of spells he's just a bad Loot Hoarder.
Leave my spell damage alone. :P
Agree. That guy shows up everywhere. He fits the criteria for why they put rag and slyvanas in wild.
I too want the 1600 dust loan :)

S39 Legend - Quest Rogue, S38 Legend - Murloc Paladin, S37 Legend - Miracle Rogue, S36 Top 200 Legend - Aggro Shaman, S35 - Finished Rank 51 Legend - Aggro Shaman, S34 Legend - Aggro Shaman
Because he does not restrict the design space for devs the way Rag, Syl, drake a the other HOF cards do.
If they need new candidate for next year's Hall of Fame, Bloodmage Thalnos will most likely be considered if it stays popular in the Year of Mammoth.
Thalnos isn't oppressive like Azure Drake was. Azure was in every midrange decks that seeked to draw a bit. (A bit).
Used to be a proud Handlock player.
Legend 17 times.
Still flirting with the ladder from times to times with Renolock.

Ya I have been mostly replacing him with Kobold, but that does beg the question if I should have been using loot hoarder lol.
Thanks guys you bring up some really good points! No less salty though lol.
