A playwright, a noble, 2 murlocs, and a dragon stumble into the catacombs...
At first glance, this deck functions just like your classic Malygos Shaman. Discount a bunch of spells, pull out your big blue lizard, and send your opponent to the shadow realm.
But with only 5 minions, this deck is actually built around Barnes in order to address the key weakness of Malygos Shaman--consistency.
Overview
Ice Fishing: With 2x Coldlight Oracle on top of 2x Ancestral Knowledge, plus Ice Fishing, you'll almost never run out of cards. Ice Fishing also makes your deck murloc-free so that Barnes can work properly.
Barnes: The key to making sure you have Malygos or Emperor when you need it. With Barnes, you can pull out either of them, provided you know that it's the only card in the deck.
Lesser Sapphire Spellstone: A pretty clunky card in any other Shaman deck, this card performs admirably when you have Emperor to discount it. Having 3 extra Malygoses on board will allow you to K.O. your opponent with only 2 spells.
How To
In order to play this deck, you must be able to do simple addition. I can't, so that's why I keep an Excel spreadsheet open when I play this deck. A general rule-of-thumb is if you can chain Malygos together with 4 spells, you have lethal. The trick is discounting enough cards with Emperor to do so. Here are some possible scenarios:
Emperor discounting Malygos, 2x Frost Shock/Lighting Bolt, 2x Crackle/Lava Shock (10 mana)
Barnes into Malygos/Ancestor's Call, 2x Frost Shock/Lighting Bolt, 2x Crackle/Lava Shock (10 mana)
Emperor discounting Barnes/Ancestor's Call, Greater Sapphire Spellstone, 2x Frost Shock/Lighting Bolt (9 mana)
Here are some screenshots of the deck in action. Good luck wrecking face!
Additional notes: if you're going up against too many Secret Mages, or you feel that you're drawing more than you need in control match-ups, you can try cutting one Coldlight Oracle for another board clear. And if you find that you're not facing that many Big Priests or Cubelocks (which are easy matchups anyway) and too many aggro decks, try cutting one Hex as well.
I'd replace the oracles with thalnos and something else of value
That is a change you can make, and some other Malygos Shaman decks go that route. It's just that it ruins the Barnes synergy.
That's my point, Oracle is way worse than Thalnos for the Barnes synergy
Ice Fishing takes care of it.
Please do explain how to use the Spellstone. I mean your best discount is a 6-mana Spellstone, and you're intending to use that on Malygos (while also casting the OTK) how, exactly?
You can use it on Malygos when you summon him with Ancestor's Call or Barnes, which costs 3 with a Emperor tick. Then, with your remaining 1 mana, you can play a couple of discounted spells for lethal. Some people think the deck runs fine without the Spellstone, but I find it is pretty useful if you are short on spells, not to mention it is the only way to beat an armored-up Malfurion.
You're missing Malygos in this list lol
Lol. Nice catch. Fixed now :P
