Basically try to kill or freeze every creature before they can hit you. Sapphiron has 2x Pure Cold and 2x Frostbolt = 22 damage from spells alone. He also has two azure drakes and you can expect him to combo those with his spells for a few extra points of damage. This doesn't leave a lot of margin for error. To help us out we need him to trigger our Ice Barriers, if coupled with Vaporize we can even trigger it without taking damage.
Mulligan for cards that have a cost of 2 or less.
Don't use minions or spells to hit his face (and only use your hero power on his face if you don't have anything better to do with the mana). The main damage dealer for this fight is fatigue damage. When Sapphiron has drawn all his cards and used up all cards he intends to use (he usually saves two Blizzards), then you can unleash whatever damage spells/mininons you have left on his face.
Sapphiron's Deck List (and ideal counter for each card):
1x Coin
3x Mana Wyrm (Countered by: Frostbolt)
2x Frostbolt (Countered by: Ice Barrier)
3x Loot Hoarder (Countered by: Fireblast)
3x Faerie Dragon (Countered by: Breath of Sindragosa or Explosive Sheep)
2x Dancing Swords (Countered by: Steel Rager)
3x Shade of Naxxramas (Countered by: Volcanic Potion or Flamecannon)
2x Skeletal Smith (Countered by: Forgotten Torch)
3x Necroknight (Countered by: Fireball)
3x Spectral Knight (Countered by: Vaporize)
2x Azure Drake (Countered by: forged Cyclopian Crusher)
2x Pure Cold (Countered by: Antique Healbot)
2x Blizzard (Never used)
Other useful plays:
If Necroknight is the leftmost minion on the board, consider freezing it and killing it next turn to get more value out of its deathrattle (Sapphiron always plays new minions to the far left).
Other cards that would work well in this deck:
- Bluegill Warrior
- Wolfrider
- Reckless Rocketeer
- Ray of Frost
- Hench-Clan Hogsteed
- Redgill Razorjaw
- Remixed Musician
- Molten Rune
- Kaboom Bot
- Fire Sale
- First Flame
- Twin-fin Fin Twin
- Burrow Buster
- Star Power
- Spark Drill
- Voodoo Doll
- Combustion
- Rolling Fireball
- Ogre-Gang Ace
- Leeroy Jenkins
- Sylvanas Windrunner
- Anomalus
Thanks alot, finally beat that annoying creatures after 2 tries!!!
Great deck
Got it on first try after several druid fatigue and warlock decks that I tried with no luck.
You have more than enough spells to counter Sapphiron minions and enough health to survive fatigue. You do have to be careful though one or two cards misused and you could end up losing.
I was wondering your take on me replacing one Arcane Golem with One Ice Block. I just do not have the second Golem.
In this deck Ice Block is roughly the equivalent of a random heal of say 1-9 points. So basically it's a weaker and more RNG dependent version of Antique Healbot or Ice Barrier. If you already have 2 barriers and 2 healbots, then almost any damage spell or charge minion would be better than Ice Block.
That said, this deck is so strong that replacing one or two cards with weaker cards is more than okay. You should still be able to beat Heroic Sapphiron easily.
Awesome deck! Won first try fairly easily. I didn't have all of the cards (1 Flamecannon, 1 Arcane Golem, and no Vaporizes) but I substituted in an Argent Commander, 2 Ice Blocks and a Stormwind Knight because I had no clue what to put in the last space. Finished on 17 health although I had pretty much complete control throughout the game. I actually used both Blizzards to combo into a Flamestrike which clears everything on the board unless they play a 6 health minion the turn after you Blizzard. Overall pretty gr8, I would r8 it 8/8 m8.
nice one! finished him with 24+7 life left, having all the answers early game just wins.
Nice Job on this deck! Had tried countless times with other decks, but this one first try! I followed your guide on what counters what and i eventually fatigued him to death :) thanks!
Excellent deck and an easy one-shot for me. Just be careful to remember that you have to let something attack you to trigger the Ice Barriers!
This worked awesome! Thank you very much, won on my first attempt after many failed with other decks.
Brilliant. I didn't have the whole deck, had to replace a few cards and smashed him first try.
For those missing cards- all single target damage spells/minions are sort of substitutable by duplicate (as you can dupe the minion and use it 3 times rather than once).
Amazing deck my friend. Beat it first try, thanks a bunch!
This is, in my opinion, the best deck for fighting heroic Sapphiron at the moment. I was able to kill him with fatigue damage on my first try.
Oh boy THX 4 this deck, win on first try.
I only registered just to upvote this, cheaper and faster win since GvG I think, on this boss.
This has to be the best deck I have ever seen in my life. Every card is so well thought out and is just perfect. I could not get sapphiron with those crappy face decks because of all the luck and the fact that they run out of steam so fast. I was trying for ages to make a deck that would work, I must have lost to this hero 500 times, but this deck got me through on the first time. I only took 16 damage the whole game (from the double frost spell thingo) which was easily countered by double ice barrier and healbot.
It would be hard to lose to sapphiron with this deck.
Finally I made it! Thanks for this deck!
I tried the Budget Mage before but was unlucky because to much RNG. Then I tried this deck and made it with the first try.
I only replaced 1 Reckless Rocketeer with 1 Pyroblast
First try. Great deck!
1st try i got it with this deck.
I ran some tests with an older version of this deck, namely the above deck list but with these changes:
In 10 tries I ended up with 7 wins and 3 losses. When I won, I ended the game with health ranging from 12 to 26. One of the losses was the result of drawing neither of the Healbots nor the Ice Barrier with my first 21 cards. One of the wins came despite not drawing any Polymorph before the last 3 cards in my deck.
All in all 70% win rate seems all right to me considering the deck I played with should be strictly speaking worse than the deck list posted above.
After adding the GvG cards, I don't think Polymorph is needed any longer. In fact, since we have enough "heal" to survive without it, I would suggest not running Polymorph.
Edit:
I ran another 10 tests, this time without the Polymorphs. Once again I went 7 wins and 3 losses in 10 tries. But this time I had between 18 and 32 health remaining when I did win. All in all, it felt stronger this time around even though the win ratio ended up being the same. Not polymorphing the Dancing Swords, means you have more cards in hand and thus have more options.
Amazing Deck!
Worked first try.
I followed your counter guide exactly like you wrote it and it's flawless.
Thanks! Gave you +1
after trying over 3 hours with other decks, this worked in the first try.
amazing deck!
thanks for the info :)
