Using this deck, I beat Heroic Malchezaar in two tries.
General Strategy
Mulligan for early game cards like Totem Golem and Lightning Bolt to control the board. You generally don't want to play Tunnel Trogg on Turn 1 as it will be immediately killed by Orc Warrior. Instead, you should aim to combo it with Overload effects or Flametongue Totem such that it will trade with at least one enemy minion.
Going into the mid-game, use your taunts, Hex and Healing Wave to stall until you can draw Kel'Thuzad and Ancestral Spirit. If you've already drawn both copies of Ancestral Spirit but not Kel'Thuzad , you can use one on a Psych-o-Tron, Sludge Belcher or Sunwalker to stall even more.
Once you've drawn Kel'Thuzad and Ancestral Spirit, and you have lethal for Nazra Wildaxe, you're ready to move on to fight Prince Malchezaar. Play Kel'Thuzad and Ancestral Spirit, kill Nazra, and Malchezaar will wipe the board with Twisting Nether, which won't be very effective, leaving you with at least 2 copies of Kel'Thuzad at the end of the turn. If you still have any taunts in hand, play them out. If you have enough taunts, especially Sludge Belcher, the enemy minions won't be able to get through them, because Kel'Thuzad will keep resurrecting them at the end of the turn. At this point, you've probably won the game, so feel free to go face.
Card Explanation
Kel'Thuzad and Ancestral Spirit: Win condition of the deck. The glitch where enemy minions don't attack might also occur if you play any taunts alongside KT. In my case, I had a full board with 3 taunts when I got to Malchezaar, and none of the enemy minions attacked. You might get lucky too, but don't count on it. (*UPDATE*: I figured out how to trigger this glitch. If the total attack of the enemy minions is lower than the total health of your taunts, they won't attack. However, if you allow Malchezaar to generate enough Abyssals, their total attack will eventually be higher than the total health of your taunts, and they will attack as per normal.)
Psych-o-Tron/Sludge Belcher/Sunwalker and Ancestral Spirit: In the mid-game, this combination will help to stall the game further while you wait to draw Kel'Thuzad. In the late game, using AS on one of these taunts will allow you to generate multiple copies of them by the end of the turn, setting up an impenetrable wall of taunts that the enemy minions can't get through.
Tuskarr Totemic: Getting a Mana Tide Totem or Vitality Totem off him is huge. The extra draw from another Mana Tide Totem in addition to the copy run in this list, can help you draw out KT+AS much earlier. As for Vitality Totem, it got completely ignored by Nazra for at least 4 turns, until she used Cruel Taskmaster on it, and even then she only killed it the turn after.
Flametongue Totem: Helps your useless basic totems (looking at you, Searing Totem) be slightly less useless. If you're struggling to draw KT+AS, you can replace one with another copy of Mana Tide Totem.
I finally beat him after my 10th try with this as my base deck - I made some minor changes because of Tuskarr Totem nerf.
Definite Trades (IMHO):
-2 Tuskarr Totemic
+2 Acidic Swamp Ooze
Tuskarr was nerfed and only provided fodder - Ooze works better
-1 Mana Tide Totem
+1 Ancestral Knowledge
Totems never lasted more than 1 turn - Still need the card draw though
-2 Flametongue Totem
+2 Wolfrider
Totems are hard to get to stick - Wolfrider was useful everytime
-1 Annoy-o-Tron
+1 Crackle/Stormcrack
Annoy-o-Tron wasn't useful early (1/3 weapon) - Another Crackle was
Perhaps these trades:
-1 Thing from Below
+1 White Eyes
Probably not a good trade but I could hardly ever get Thing to cost less than 4
-2 Tunnel Trogg
+2 Jinyu Waterspeaker/Refreshment Vendor
Hard to get him out with enough attack - Extra life was handy
Extra Tips:
Manage your overloads and plan for the next turn
-Ancestral Knowledge on turn 2 isn't bad if you have a Lightning Bolt
-Wolfrider on turn before Kel'Thuzad instead of an overloading spell
Manage your life
-Don't hesitate to gain less than maximum life if you can spare the mana now
-Do whatever you can to stay above 9 life
Get lucky
-Sometimes a Slude Belcher will stop him for a couple of turns (I won without this happening)
-Sometimes Kel'Thuzad isn't in the last 2 cards of the deck
For those without mid-sized collection, this is probably the easiest way to beat him. Below are the main options ranked by how feasible I think it is to win with these archetypes without every single card to your name:
#1 Burn Shaman + Kel'Thuzad + a few rares
-Took me 10 tries (very close on another attempt)
#2 Deathrattle Hunter + Call of the Wilds + a few rares
-Couldn't test (no CotW)
#3 Resto Paladin + Anyfin Can Happen + Legendary and Epic Murlocs + several Legendaries/Epics
-Tried to improvise without some of the needed cards - tried 6x - should work in 20x
#4 Resto Priest + C'Thun + a couple of Legendaries
-Tried to improvise - tough to setup - failed 5x - got 2/3rd of the way there one time
#5 Freeze Mage + Counterspells (+ Doomsayers are probably helpful)
-I don't have Doomsayers. Hard to win in the second phase - failed 10x w/o coming close
#6 N'Zoth, the Corruptor + Kel'Thuzad + a few more Legendaries
-Not a chance I have these
Don't work for me. RNG is too bad for draw the right cards.
Logged in just to say this deck rocks. I tried beating him with a paladin everyfin deck for the past few weeks. Won with this deck in 3 turns. Thanks!
2nd try, no sweat. thanks!
Glad to see that it still works in spite of the nerf to Tuskarr Totemic
Fucking hell she executed my KT before I could Ancestral it...
Ideally, you should play KT only if you can use Ancestral Spirit on the same turn that you summon him.
Sorry to hear that dude :(
Like I mentioned in one of my replies to an earlier comment, your card draw luck is a big factor in determining if you'll survive until you can get both Kel'Thuzad and Ancestral Spirit in hand, which is why getting an extra Mana Tide Totem off Tuskarr is a big deal.
On the other hand, if you're lucky enough to have already drawn both KT and AS, but you can't kill Nazra with what you have on the board, I suggest playing out the KT+AS combo to work towards lethal (Be sure to avoid Overloading the turn before you play KT+AS. Almost cost me the game the one time I made that mistake). I personally have not tried this, so I'm not sure if Nazra will trade into KT or just continue going face. Hope this helps!
Defeated on the first try, unlike other decks which didn't work at all after >10 tries. I didn't even have Ancestral Spirit but the no attack glitch worked. Great deck.
Worked wonderfully especially when I got two Kal'Thuzads out.
Thank you so much! That just made my day haha
Took a few tries, but eventually got it. I added another ancestral knowledge (for card draw) and Harrison Jones to kill his weapon and gain tempo. Managed to get a Kel up with ancestral knowledge & then next round a sun walker with ancestral knowledge. After the Twisting Neather it was a piece of cake. Thanks for the deck :)
You're welcome! Which cards did you replace for Ancestral Knowledge and Harrison?
"looking at you, Searing Totem" - HAHAHAHA!
I'm sure we can all agree that Searing Totem is absolute garbage lol
You're welcome! Just being curious, which card did you replace for Dr Boom?
Thanks I'm glad you liked it!
Its not working! I tried over 10-15 times. Nazra kills me before i get the cards.
Hey there! Sorry it hasn't been working out for you. Unfortunately, luck is still a big factor for this deck, mainly based on whether you can consistently keep playing taunts and removal cards in the mid-game, while getting as much value as possible with Mana Tide Totem. I know it can be really frustrating when it doesn't work out (I tried and failed with Anyfin Paladin 8 times before making this deck, easily the most tilted I've ever been while playing Hearthstone), but this deck definitely has the potential to beat the boss, so just keep at it and you'll get it eventually. Good luck!
