DECK LIST UPDATED 10/3/2016
Hello! My name is Lyme, I'm a streamer, deck builder & dolphin trainer. I'm back with my "Standard Mode" rendition of my popular OTK priest! With a couple key cards from the new expansion, this deck was given a boost in power in exchange for some defensive capability. So let's begin....
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
With the addition of Embrace the Shadow, this deck is now capable of 60+ damage 1 turn combos. Primarily, your focus each turn should be on cycling as much as possible, and secondly on keeping the board clean. Tracking your current damage throughout the game is a must (keep in mind that Prophet Velen also essentially doubles with any spell damage added). This is ideal for players that love a difficult to master yet powerful and viable combo deck.
STRATEGY
- Early game: Draw cards, and set up for big board clears if necessary. Using your cards to cycle 2 / 3 cards per turn means you are playing the deck correctly EG: Wild Pyromancer into (spell) into Circle of Healing with a cleric on the board, or Wild Pyromancer w/any spell and Acolyte of Pain up.
- Mid / End Game: If you can get at least three of the key cards in your hand (Prophet Velen,Mind Blast, Flash Heal, Smite, Auchenai Soulpriest, Embrace the Shadow) it's time to Emperor Thaurissan.
- The exception to this rule is Control Warriors, the game will be slower, so saving Emperor Thaurissan until you have Double Flash, Double Mind Blast, Thalnos, Embrace & possibly a smite in hand is ideal. The most damage I've done with this combo in one turn for lethal was ~66, and my opponent almost surely uninstalled after.
If you are facing an aggro deck, saving cards for an OTK is not usually the way to win, but rather using everything you have to clear the board and stay alive. Part of the reason this deck is great is the versatility, as you can use your healing spells as damage or to bring you back to full OR clear the board. Be aware of what you are against and if you'll need to save spells to survive. An example would be using mind blast to proc a pyromancer aoe, or a flash heal to heal yourself with Velen up.
MATCHUPS & MULLIGANS
-
WARRIOR - Acolyte of Pain, Loot Hoarder, Gnomish Inventor, Harrison Jones, Northshire Cleric; This has always been the most difficult matchup. With the addition of Embrace the Shadow, you should actually be able to combo the warrior down from 60+HP. Draw as much as possible, and SAVE Emperor Thaurissan until you have almost all possible damage spells. It helps greatly to get Bloodmage Thalnos in your emperor turn, as he can add ~10 damage to your combo.
-
MAGE - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield; If it's freeze mage, it's a pretty easy matchup, just save your heals for yourself with a velen combo. Against tempo, just make sure to clear efficiently, as they typically will try to bait you into using aoe on one minion. Against tempo you're perfectly fine to use yourFlash Heal to heal yourself or combo pyromancer.
-
Paladin - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield ; Paladins seem to be pretty easy to handle. Against nzoth, go ahead and draw for about 25 damage before you Emperor Thaurissan. Against aggro, pulling pyromancer and using your spells aggressively is the way to win.
-
Shaman - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield Keep Circle of Healing if you have Embrace the Shadow or Auchenai Soulpriest in your hand; Not too difficult, Harrison is a key card here if you can read they are running a Doomhammer list. Using circle of healing in conjunction with wild pyromancer and northshire cleric to draw 3-5 cards instead of clear the board is completely ok in this matchup. The more you draw, the better chance you have of beating their tempo.
-
Rogue: Keep Harrison Jones, Loot Hoarder, Gnomish Inventor, Bloodmage Thalnos, Shadow Word: Death; You are simply trying to draw your combo pieces before he can unload. Saving pyro AOE or circle of healing AOE for their Goblin can be wise if it's turn 5 or 6, unless you can use them to draw 2-3 cards which is always preferred.
-
Priest: Keep all cards with draw mechanics; This is a very easy matchup typically. Priests are slow enough to allow you to amass a huge combo into your thaurissan. Just stay alive and give them a nice surprise. You can and SHOULD be greedy with your spells and clears in this matchup, unless they are pressuring you extremely hard.
-
Hunter - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield Harrison Jones ; Can be difficult if it's midrange. Try and draw as quickly as possible and saving aoe at the expense of taking damage is important, as they have many high value cards later on that need to be dealt with. You're likely to need to heal yourself with spells here, which is fine because you've got more than enough damage to take them down without your flash heals.
-
Druid - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield Shadow Word: Death; With the Druid nerfs, this matchup became significantly easier. The game should go long enough to draw a pretty large combo, thaurissan is OK even with one mind blast here, as most druid decks will lack any healing and you'll want to keep tempo up.

I'm loving this deck, but I have a few differences for mine. I got rid of the soulpriests and added another embrace the shadow. I also took out the forbidden shaping. The souIpriests are just too expensive when it's time to burst down your opponent. added one copy of that 3/3 priest minion that reduces card drawn cost by 1 (a very helpful mini emperor). I think I've been running two novice engineers. I might take out one or both for perhaps an acidic swamp ooze. I have enough card draw as is (often can run out of cards by turn 9) and I don't really need more draw from Harrison. That said, shaman is the most difficult class for me with this deck and an ooze might help towards that.
how to beat dragon worrior?
Hello,
I started playing OTK priest not long ago and learned a lot with your deck( I didnt play enough cycling and playing doomsayer instead of pyro)
I wanted to know if alexstraza is worth ? swaping it maybe for the forbidden shaping or is it too slow and not enough flexible.
And the last thing, why not use a mass dispel instead of the gnomish inventor? it can help against druid or rogue
Thx a lot !
replacement for harrison?
It takes too long to get the OTK going before ur dead by almost any class :( i have no use all heals on myself in every game
1-5 so far, and i have understanding of Priest, since ive played it from Closed Beta, this deck feels very inconsistent, how do you deal with Double 4mana 7-7 with only 1 death and no Entomb etc problem with this deck.
In my decks i NEED 2x Entomb, 2x Death, 1x Pain, like.. its necessary as fuck :D
I don't have Valen, but I have been running another OTK priest with Malygos. i feel like the 2 mana difference is just too much and thats why my other deck is doing so poorly. can you weigh in on this?
Yeah, you're absolutely right. In priest at least, malygos is just too expensive. Also, against tougher matchups like warrior, any spell damage on the board is doubled with Velen.
I adore this deck! Even though it might be difficult to evalue combo cards correctly in certain situations but it is so different from most of the ladder experience. I actually had some freeze priesting experience in the past, before the WOG(got golden priest hero with it) but I really didn't expect such priest to work again in standard once nzoth pally became instinct and warrior started dominating the ladder.
Maybe I'm still not used to this exact variation but I find tempo decks pretty challenging to beat. For instance tempo mage dropped me to 3 hp by turn 5. Can u plz explain that aspect in detail? Dragon warrior, hunter and tempo mage. How do u deal with them?
You must be a pretty mediocre player then.
Do you have a wild version of OTK priest?
I replaced Bloodmage Thalnos with Justicar Trueheart. I replaced Azure Drake with Alexstrasza. I replaced Forbidden Shaping with another Embrace the shadow.
Currently 4-1 Standard on Casual ranking. This deck doesn't seem to be able to climb ladder very well for me. Is there a certain ranking or starting point for this deck?
I'm having a blast with this deck. The card draw combos are insanely enjoyable. Especially when you end with a possible 48 damage combo @ 4 health!
Replaced Harrison Jones with an Acidic Swamp Ooze and Forbidden Shapping with Alextrasza.
Currently at rank 27 with the deck. Didn't have Prophet Velen, so I put in Evolved Kobold instead. Currently at a 0% win rate with the deck. I have only played 0 games though :/
Evolved is a good sub but your win rate is really low. Try adding some wild cards to your other decks.
Thx for the advice! I put C'Thun in for Emperor Thaurissan because a 6/6 is better than a 5/5. I've increased my win rate to 1% from 0%!!!!
Please make a video!
Great deck Lyme, having fun with it and success climbed a couple ranks. I've tried to make this deck work after WOTG but failed, think I needed more cycle. Lots of 1-ofs with this deck but it works because of the cycle. Harrison Jones is so clutch right now, all this aggro pirate or dragon warrior, plus shaman buys time and cycles. Only questionable card is forbidden shaping doesn't entirely fit, but I've had moderate success with it generally as a 6 or 8 mana drop.
I agree with your assessment. That was the one card I wasn't really sure of. I tried a couple other cards in the 4 slot (another soulpriest /taunts) but ended up needing something a little more versitile. Forbidden shaping can be great turn 6-8, but lacks consistency earlier. And yeah, Harrison is absolutely amazing right now.
My previous version before the standard format hit was pretty minion heavy & taunt heavy, which made it able to sustain against aggro and push damage with the buffed minions.
With those cards being removed, cycling was the only way to really pressure the opponent and keep enough cards in hand to clear the board when I needed to. It's a trade off, because we got a MUCH bigger OTK burst in exchange for really useful defensive tools.
2- Your decklist is almost an exact mirror of the one I posted previously, you likely copied it considering nothing about anything you've said indicates you are capable of creating a viable deck. That got over 200k+ views and was featured, also has multiple videos of me playing it past rank 6 to legend (where you apparently got stuck), which also tells me you had no idea how to pilot that deck either.
3- You listed some matchups that are so incredibly easy for this deck to beat... Along with your foul language, downvoting every post i've made, terrible grammar and rage for no reason, it's clear you are just a troll or an angry little kid.
I have a full time job, when I get time to edit the videos and put them on youtube, I will, I'm sure you'll think of another excuse to hate on my deck for absolutely no reason after I do so.
Anyway, reported for pointless flaming and vote manipulation. No reason to bring that shit in here when you're clueless of anything going on at higher play levels.
