DECK LIST UPDATED 10/3/2016
Hello! My name is Lyme, I'm a streamer, deck builder & dolphin trainer. I'm back with my "Standard Mode" rendition of my popular OTK priest! With a couple key cards from the new expansion, this deck was given a boost in power in exchange for some defensive capability. So let's begin....
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
With the addition of Embrace the Shadow, this deck is now capable of 60+ damage 1 turn combos. Primarily, your focus each turn should be on cycling as much as possible, and secondly on keeping the board clean. Tracking your current damage throughout the game is a must (keep in mind that Prophet Velen also essentially doubles with any spell damage added). This is ideal for players that love a difficult to master yet powerful and viable combo deck.
STRATEGY
- Early game: Draw cards, and set up for big board clears if necessary. Using your cards to cycle 2 / 3 cards per turn means you are playing the deck correctly EG: Wild Pyromancer into (spell) into Circle of Healing with a cleric on the board, or Wild Pyromancer w/any spell and Acolyte of Pain up.
- Mid / End Game: If you can get at least three of the key cards in your hand (Prophet Velen,Mind Blast, Flash Heal, Smite, Auchenai Soulpriest, Embrace the Shadow) it's time to Emperor Thaurissan.
- The exception to this rule is Control Warriors, the game will be slower, so saving Emperor Thaurissan until you have Double Flash, Double Mind Blast, Thalnos, Embrace & possibly a smite in hand is ideal. The most damage I've done with this combo in one turn for lethal was ~66, and my opponent almost surely uninstalled after.
If you are facing an aggro deck, saving cards for an OTK is not usually the way to win, but rather using everything you have to clear the board and stay alive. Part of the reason this deck is great is the versatility, as you can use your healing spells as damage or to bring you back to full OR clear the board. Be aware of what you are against and if you'll need to save spells to survive. An example would be using mind blast to proc a pyromancer aoe, or a flash heal to heal yourself with Velen up.
MATCHUPS & MULLIGANS
-
WARRIOR - Acolyte of Pain, Loot Hoarder, Gnomish Inventor, Harrison Jones, Northshire Cleric; This has always been the most difficult matchup. With the addition of Embrace the Shadow, you should actually be able to combo the warrior down from 60+HP. Draw as much as possible, and SAVE Emperor Thaurissan until you have almost all possible damage spells. It helps greatly to get Bloodmage Thalnos in your emperor turn, as he can add ~10 damage to your combo.
-
MAGE - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield; If it's freeze mage, it's a pretty easy matchup, just save your heals for yourself with a velen combo. Against tempo, just make sure to clear efficiently, as they typically will try to bait you into using aoe on one minion. Against tempo you're perfectly fine to use yourFlash Heal to heal yourself or combo pyromancer.
-
Paladin - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield ; Paladins seem to be pretty easy to handle. Against nzoth, go ahead and draw for about 25 damage before you Emperor Thaurissan. Against aggro, pulling pyromancer and using your spells aggressively is the way to win.
-
Shaman - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield Keep Circle of Healing if you have Embrace the Shadow or Auchenai Soulpriest in your hand; Not too difficult, Harrison is a key card here if you can read they are running a Doomhammer list. Using circle of healing in conjunction with wild pyromancer and northshire cleric to draw 3-5 cards instead of clear the board is completely ok in this matchup. The more you draw, the better chance you have of beating their tempo.
-
Rogue: Keep Harrison Jones, Loot Hoarder, Gnomish Inventor, Bloodmage Thalnos, Shadow Word: Death; You are simply trying to draw your combo pieces before he can unload. Saving pyro AOE or circle of healing AOE for their Goblin can be wise if it's turn 5 or 6, unless you can use them to draw 2-3 cards which is always preferred.
-
Priest: Keep all cards with draw mechanics; This is a very easy matchup typically. Priests are slow enough to allow you to amass a huge combo into your thaurissan. Just stay alive and give them a nice surprise. You can and SHOULD be greedy with your spells and clears in this matchup, unless they are pressuring you extremely hard.
-
Hunter - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield Harrison Jones ; Can be difficult if it's midrange. Try and draw as quickly as possible and saving aoe at the expense of taking damage is important, as they have many high value cards later on that need to be dealt with. You're likely to need to heal yourself with spells here, which is fine because you've got more than enough damage to take them down without your flash heals.
-
Druid - Keep any draw, Wild Pyromancer, Smite, Power Word: Shield Shadow Word: Death; With the Druid nerfs, this matchup became significantly easier. The game should go long enough to draw a pretty large combo, thaurissan is OK even with one mind blast here, as most druid decks will lack any healing and you'll want to keep tempo up.

I'm trying the same exact setup but with Malygos instead of Prophet Velen. What do you think of it?
Unless you don't have Prophet Velen, I don't see the point. Won't 2 more mana just limit your burst potential?
In order to do the 30 damage with Malygos, you need to get more than one Thaurissan discount on one mind blast, usually. For the combo to work, Velen doesn't even have to be in your hand, most of the time.
Can you update your mulligan guide for the new deck? It still has all the older cards in it.
Just gonna ask before I try it, what do you think of cold light instead of azure drake in this deck? Just really enjoy using that card and was wondering.
Yeah i ended up just adding one in place of one of the drakes. But after a few hours of play i do get annoyed of having to hold a minimum of 5 pieces to burst. Oracle is never leaving the list for me though made an anyfin pally burn anyfin >:D best moment of my night.
Damn, am I happy I found your guide. I just got Prophet Velen in the welcome pack booster and I was pleasantly surprised to have all cards for this deck EXCEPT Bloodmage Thalnos. So my question is, even though there are no ideal replacements, what can I fill that missing card with?
I have even considered fitting Kobold Geomancer in the deck since it would at least work as a similiar 2 mana +1 SF replacement without the draw. Is that an acceptable sub or should I try something else, like a second nova instead?
I'm no pro, and only play HS for about 4-5 months, but I really look forward to playing this deck since I love combos (and my worgen deck is now dead).
I look forward to your answer, thanks in advance.
P.S: Please don't mind english mistakes as it is not my first language.
kobold is good enough
I've played this deck with no Thalnos, I've just run more neutral draw. You can also just play extra AOE or removal. I would recommend something like Excavated Evil just for cleaner board clears.
Hey Lyme,
You nailed my maly druid last week with this deck (I was one turn off lethal!). I copied your deck, except for -1 Bloodmage Thalnos + Malygos. Gives an additional unexpected win condition, otherwise seems you have to set up the perfect storm every match. Nice to have a viable priest deck.
no warlock guide ?!
Started from rank 20, I've won 6 games in a row without losing so far. I haven't faced one single aggro deck except for some off beat zoo build. I don't think anyone has any idea what I'm playing, that might be an advantage. It's a cool deck, check it out.
Thanks for the comment, I just updated the list and as of now, this is by far the most consistent version of the deck. With shamans, hunters & warriors getting a slight nerf, the deck got a slight buff.
You should continue to lose fairly little until about rank 10 when people start realizing what you're playing, but even then if you play each turn correctly you'll still do well.
i'm missing some cards, but i can craft them... except for thalnos. What should i exchange him for?
I've actually just opened Prophet Velen and am excited for this! I replaced Shadowfiend with Mass Dispel, not sure why yet. It just sounds like it may work well.
Okay - so I have tried this deck and it is pretty good. Score so far is 6 wins, 5 losses.
My score would be better - but I made some misplays because this style of deck and some mechanics are new to me. I also don't have Harrison Jones or [card]Bloodmage Thalnos[/card] so I replaced them with Shadow Word: Horror (It's nice vs warlocks) and Yogg-Saron, Hope's End.
Yogg-Saron, Hope's End is quite nice in the deck because it can buy some time while you search for your OTK cards, or it can provide a little extra survival or damage if you used your OTK cards to stay alive (I have had to use the OTK cards sometimes in order to heal or to proc Wild Pyromancer for a board clear).
This deck is not Tier 1 by any means... And if you are one of those people who favours aggro decks (a brainless simpleton), then you should probably not try this deck.
I just found a Golden Velen and I have always wanted to use this kind of deck - but I only play wild mode (standard is only aggro shaman and hunter, so I avoid it completely).
Can you suggest some swap outs for wild?
Here's his old list before Standard: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/407465-legend-top-50-lymeotk-priest
You may consider swap out Alex and add card such as Embrace the Shadow.
The climb videos were from a different deck completely and a previous expansion, this is a much more aggressive version that is played in a much different way. I've made some adjustments to this for the meta, but haven't really pushed to keep it updated. I do have several videos, I just need to get around to updating them. Priests unfortunately aren't getting anything useful this next xpac, so this isn't likely to change much other than the above stated changes I made.
When I posted this, zoo, reno lock, tempo mage, and cthun druid were far more prevalent, which made this a viable (it's not a tier 1 deck) way to ladder past legend. If your meta is all control / dragon / hunter like I've seen lately, I'd suggest a different deck. Each of those is still winnable, however. It plays a LOT like the worgen combo warrior decks, as you want to wait till you can combo your pyro with circles, smites, and clerics to get ultimate clear / draw value, so taking a huge amount of damage is basically negated by the fact that you draw 5 cards, clear the board, and develop it in one turn.
You're obviously not an amateur player, so I'm sure you already know this, but this is NOT an easy deck to pilot. Worgen otk is considered hard, and in my opinion this is even harder given the nature of the combo and the versatility of your toolkit. Either way, thanks for the comment! I'll try and get around to putting some videos up this weekend.
http://imgur.com/p80e2r0 OK so here is where i stand at the moment... I swapped out Excavated Evil for one more Holy Nova and I use Acidic Swamp Ooze instead of Harrison Jones , but my problem is i don't have a replacement for Bloodmage Thalnos .. Any recommendations? Love the deck btw! <3
