There are two classes I play to legend every season - warrior and priest. After a lot of experimenting in legend, I decide to share only the best versions that I get. I often see fun cards which potential hasn't been used in decks enough. Having tons of fun and climbing ranks at the same time is what makes the true magical experience of Hearthstone. This deck provided that joy for me and still does it.
Newest update: Added the almighty dragon Deathwing instead of Nefarian, which lead me to legend this season. With so many secret paladins and zoo decks, this addition was necessary to dominate those match-ups as the great last resort!
Important update: Changed 1x Fiery War Axe for 1x Armorsmith . Decided to update it here because it worked very well on the ladder which led me to top 150 legend. Both options are great, armorsmith just gives edge in games against some decks.
I decided to share the deck I made for intermediate players. Its primary purpose is to help players with the knowledge of the control warrior playstyle reach legend from ranks 1-5 or just steadily climb the legend ranks while having tons of fun! You can try it in other ranks too, but I would recommend going with patron warrior or priest if you want to climb faster until you start facing more skilled opponents.
I played Jeweled Scarab in Reno warrior for the first time and fell in love with that card. Playing them instead of Acolyte of Pain is a great choice against slower decks and they do their role against aggro as well. Discover mechanic is the most fun mechanic ever and can actually win you games!
I'm not a fan of fatigue decks that are out there only to counter control decks. We have a ton of anti aggro tools. 2x Revenge and 2x Brawl are a must in this meta in my opinion. If we don't use them in a game against control, they will become legendaries by Elise Starseeker.
Nefarian and Nexus-Champion Saraad are fun and very viable choices in this deck that have a good chance of winning you games by themselves. I live for the moments where we get a Sacrificial Pact from Nefarian and instantly win a game against Lord Jaraxxus! If you really want to replace those, you can go for a card with a similar cost.
Be smart! Don't play your turns too fast. You have many choices to make while playing control warrior and you will get punished when making mistakes. I guess that makes control decks more enjoyable.
If you want to learn more about the playstyle of this deck, ask some question or just enjoy quality fun games in legend or arena, you can check out my stream www.twitch.tv/urkoth
Our legendary friend Nat played a very fun game and showed why Saraad is considered a mini ysera and the reason why I love that card so much.
Khristophesaurus had some fun games where he won a control warrior mirror without drawing justicar and took zoo to fatigue because you can do it with this deck if you wanna!
Do you think Nefarian or Ysera would be better replacement for Deathwing ?
I used to run Nefarian before Deathwing and works great, but Deathwing is better if you face too many secret paladins and zoolocks.
Great deck, 5 wins in a row at rank 13 so far
Great piloting of the deck from you as well, sir Qyburnn, keep it up!
Hey i'm really interested in trying your deck especially after i got a Deathwing again from a pack. I was thinking about making the deck, but with the release of WotOG coming soon i've been abit on the fence on if i should spend my dust making the deck. It would cost me 4580 dust due to swapping Gorehowl with Grommash Hellscream and then crafting the other epics and a Justicar Trueheart. Do you think Grommash and Justicar are safe crafts for the expansion especially with C'Thun Control Warrior potentially being a thing? If so i'm making this deck ASAP =D!
-Thanks in advance
Heyo Dage, I don't know which of the old cards will be good in the new expansion until I see the new cards. I assume control warrior will stay in the new expansion after seeing that card, so Justicar is a safe craft in my oppinion. Also, the ladder will certainly be the same for the next month and more until the expansion arrives, so you will have a lot of time to enjoy it until the standard is here!
Yea made up my mind and def gonna be crafting those legendaries and epics needed for the deck
Thank you ZilPui and that's a good question! Geddon clears 2 or less hp minions, deathwing devastates everything no matter what. Not to mention the minions like Sea giant that just get in there while they fill board. We have two revenges, it's more versatile than Geddon. Deathwing is the boss!
Could Saraad be replaced with something like Sylvanas or Kodorider?
Hey man ! I really love this deck and it's fun to play it, but i want to ask you if you could tell me how to play this deck because i've never played ctrl war? I almost everytime run out of cards in late game and don't have anything to play. Thank you for any help !
Hey LuxQy! It's a hard archetype to master but we all start from somewhere. I certainly enjoyed learning control warrior from the very beginning and will never get bored of it. Great way of learning it is also watching streamers when they play it - Dog and Neirea play it often, Kolento sometimes as well. Check out mine too, I play it a lot!
I know that feel ZilPoi! You win this one, face.
Hi there. I'd really like to play this deck, but I'm lacking of Deathwing and Saraad. I own enough dust for both, so does it make sence to craft them, how good is this deck at current meta and how it will look like after the update? Stuck at rank 6 at the moment.
I will leave that decision to you, Fable. I don't know what the expansion will look like, we will definitely play different decks than the ones we're playing now. But it will take around month and a half or more for it to arrive, so as far as I'm concerned - having those awesome cards in your collection is worth!
Thanks a lot for replying, I'm now 101% sure I'm going to craft these two legendaries and go straight for the legend! ;)
That's the spirit!
Played 7 games tonight and lost 5. I have every card but Nexus-Champion Saraad, so I substituted Loatheb, which I just noticed you recommended against. He seemed like the next best 5 drop (most frequently used). Perhaps Sylvannas Windrunner, one mana up, would have been better.
I lost mostly to aggro decks, where I couldn't remove or armor up fast enough. Aggro druid w/ Savage Roar, Tempo Mage, Zoolock. I also lost to some strange tempo-ish warlock with good card sequence and a fatigue warrior (likely this deck) who burned my Elise Starseeker with his Deathlord. The game play was quite interesting, in any event, and it was fun to out-remove/out-last a priest and a control warrior who were playing similar strategies.
It will get better as you learn it Silverbeau. Yea, I don't like changing Saraad and Loatheb isn't a good choice for warrior. I hope you're having fun playing it!
I know friend, I've been having fun with Nefarian and won many games that way but when the ladder at high ranks is only secret paladins and zoo, Deathwing is the way to go!
I don't own Deathwing but understand your reasoning for putting him in. Do you think Arch-Thief Rafaam would be a good replacement or should I just go with Nefarian?
