Hey there! I'm Odemian a french pro-player from team Millenium.
I was having a bit of a hard time climbing ladder this season , so I decided to try some whacky stuff with the new LOE cards. It turned out Rafaam was actually not that bad, especially in paladin, which massively lacks burst damage. So I just stuck him in Lifecoach's Highlander Paladin, made a couple of other changes, and voilà!
I got to Legend [2] with the deck on the day of its creation (today :D) and I have to say that Rafaam MASSIVELY carried a couple of games where I felt pretty screwed. The deck behaves superbly well in almost all matchups, and Reno is incredibly OP versus all aggro and midrange decks.
I must repeat that most of the credit for this deck goes to Lifecoach, but I just thought it would be cool to share with you guys a deck where Rafaam actually works. I'll probably be writing a full guide to this deck at some point, but for the moment just try it out, and enjoy ;)
Replacements for Coghammer, Piloted Sky Golem, Sylvanas and Boom?
Whoa, there - the early game is balanced by a hair as it is - taking out a 3 Coghammer --> for a Defender of Argus, no, that's too greedy. Same with moving from Dr. 7 to your choice of 8 or 9, etc.
I am mulliganning to keep the cog - just did and very lucky I did, too! It's great late, but can be a lifesaver early too.
AlchemistApprentice - sorry I missed the context (of missing cards), I think you'd have to go to the 3 mana Raptor dude, or maybe Argent Horserider or Lance for the charge since Cog has a very nice charge effect. But I must say Coghammer has been vital in this deck for me, it would certainly be hard to do without.
I agree that Sky Golem is a good sub for Dr. Boom although others don't like it much, at one less mana. If Nefarian didn't work so well here, i might prefer Sky to Boom, since the latter would then be the only BGH target. My Boom are getting BGHed more often than not these days, I don't understand solo 7+ cards like Dr. Boom's in decks.
Any reno deck beside renolocks are worth less than a collosal pile of fresh goblin shit. People should really stop making reno decks with other classes, they're just underperforming, simple as that.
Errrr, not true, I consistently win renolocks with pala-Reno.
You just have to be less sucky at playing and you'll achieve it too.
Sure you do, pretty sure you're a dumb fuck that can't even reach rank 15 on ladder.
Maybe its a good idea, but not to use it on turn 1, just to have it if you are having trouble with an agro opponent, to see if you get the Totemic Call, Armor Up, or Lesser Heal...
I think he doesn't mind the tempo loss for long term control.
50 games so far with this deck. 7 time legend player for a basis of "skill" (Hint, its not skill just lots of time invested)
The deck has around a 23% win rate. Its honestly just too slow and to speed it up you start taking out cards that make this deck...well...this deck. You end up with the standard aggro pally. If the meta would slow down and blizzard actually make cards to punish playing aggro this deck might do well. For what it is right now, ts just a fun gimmick deck like mill rogue
Can do nothing with shaman. 3 shamans - 3 loses
depends on your draw luck - if you don't get any heal or your Taunt, you're screwed against aggro.
If there was only a way to adjust decks to the current meta or your own needs...wait...you can actually do that ;)
I love this deck vs face hunter/aggro, once you play Reno they concede :)
always keep in opening hand
Kel'Thuzad seems like an incredibly odd choice for this deck. Even Chromaggus feels like it'd be better in that spot. It doesn't feel like there's enough taunt or deathrattle to make him strong enough, and at that point I question why not just Ysera.
there is 8 deathrattles in the deck which have super strong effects to be reused and in general kelthuzad is a huge tempo play that almost secures the rest of the game with value even with without deathrattles or taunts on the field that ysera and chromaggus with their randomness just dont guarantee
Kel'Thuzad provides zero value if you're board is clear so to say he's a huge tempo play is simply wrong. He's a win more card the majority of the time you play him. You need to already be firmly in control of the board before you play him. There are very few situations where you play Kel'Thuzad and then can trade a value deathrattle minion that same turn that you aren't likely already winning, so to say he "secures the rest of the game" is like 1/2 true; he is securing the game that is likely already pretty secure.
yes i considered the boom bots because their death rattles are actually quite huge if you have rng and yes he isnt a tempo play with nothing on the board but you almost always have something on the board from your useful 1/1s to a dr. boom that could trade into theirs even one or two creatures dieing on the board is always good so maybe the word i should have used was a insta value play not tempo
This deck is legit! I've said many times that Rafaam was a bad card that would likely not see play. I was dead wrong! Rafaam has been doing some serious work for me and I can honestly say no other card could done it in the way that he did. I applaud Lifecoach for conceptualizing this deck and I applaud Odemian for making it even better with a ballsy move like running Rafaam. 8-2 so far, just hit Rank 3.
Won 3 out of 4 random fights with this deck, and I never play paladin :) I did change a couple things. Instead of Coghammer I put in Sword of Justice and instead of Zombie Chow I used Sir Finley Mrrgglton. And instead of Piloted Sky Golem used Emperor Thaurissan. Worked out nicely :)
This deck is actually really bad.
Didn't draw any removal (BGH, Equality or Peacekeeper) in 5 games in a row after drawing more than 20 cards each time.
It's a classic midrang pally with half the removals. Yup, too slow and too bad in EU ladder.
Or perhaps just variance? Just cause you get unlucky a few games doesn't exactly give you the right to call this deck flat out bad. #salty
