Hi guys,
My name is Malygos and I want to present you my version of control warrior for challenging the ladder on a very competitive and climbing level.
I've achieved legend several times over the time I play a lot of different classes. Last season I have been really trying control warrior and developed this deck that I am presenting you now. It can withstand all the aggro and defeat the control so I believe it is a deck worth at least testing.
It can really help you climb easy with a huge win streak as I've tested it on all levels on the ladder.
Basically the idea behind the deck is to withstand the aggro early game while surviving until the mid game where you can Justicar Trueheart and start gaining armor, clear the board once again with Baron Geddon or Brawl and finish your opponent in the late stages of a game.
Here is a short mulligan guide that I will expand in the next couple of days.
Hunter
It's a 75% win match basically. Keep Armorsmith, Cruel Taskmaster, Acolyte of Pain, Fiery War Axe and Revenge Keep in mind a lot of them are running Bear Trap so don't go face unless you can clear it. Shield Slam is good if you have The Coin .If you have a good start it's a really easy game from there.
Mage
A lot similar to hunter, especially look for Fiery War Axe because without it you can't really win early game. Save Armorsmith to activate traps and play around Effigy
Paladin
A lot of times, especially in the beginning of the season they are riddlers or some aggro. Same vs hunter and also you need an Execute. Best case scenario on turn 6 when they play all their secrets you have equipped Death's Bite. Activate trap with minion, play Sylvanas Windrunner, attack with weapon and it kills her because she drops to 1 health from their secret. Then she dies and you steal their big minion. It's absolutely my favourite play and it destroys paladins.
Warrior
Patron or Control what you need is Death's Bite. It is best vs Warriors. Try to get Justicar Trueheart if you are sure he is control. You can snowball easy from turn 6 and kill him with ease afterwards. Also try to get Acolyte of Pain and card recycles like Shield Block. Cards are most important in control. You need to play smart and use them to their maximum efficiency in order to win.
Warlock
If it is handlock get Death's Bite, Execute and if you are second or have Shield Block save Shield Slam too. If they play 2 giants and something else don't hesitate to use Brawl
If it is zoo play it as it is hunter/paladin.
Priest
Fairly easy match, just get Death's Bite and removals and if you clear their minions early one they run out of steam easily. They can't keep up and your late game is much stronger than theirs. It's an easy win.
Druid
Hardest match up these days. They get a lot of tempo and midrange. Try to get Fiery War Axe to kill their minions on turn 2. Try to control at all times and ALWAYS calculate combo. YES - with innervate. You can't obviously play around it all the time but try to. Sometimes stack armor in stead of playing a big legendary just to keep yourself alive. Calculate & win.
That's basically it and I will definitely add more guides. Please keep the questions coming ! : )
Hi ! Thanks for detailed answer and good questions.
1. I switched acolytes because a lot of times they are too slow and I only get one card of them and If i get more it is usually vs control which is bad because you fatigue first. Also a lot of patrons out there so acolytes are really bad. Slam can hit divine shield minions and also doesn't leave a minion for the opponent to make patrons out of or to implosion. Slam also activates grommas and kills minions behind taunts. Sylvana is really awesome keep her. A lot of time people will trade minions to aroundher and this buys you time.
2. To be honest I switch them all the time. Usually I only get one card out of ysera. No matter of the situation she would almost never survive two turns and 75% she will give you the card you dont need. Also 4 attack is rubish vs control especially warrior with justicar hero power. Nefi excels here. He will give you 2 cards and a lot of times those are consecration, twisted nether and all the goodies you need. Also ysera gets stolen by priests and you cant always kill her easily. Plus you have a lot of plus 7 attacks so Nefi survives. Sarad gave me useless spells and things like equality and fireballs when I most needed them.
3. Justicar is a must. Vs both control and aggro +4 armor a turn becomes unbeatable after several turns of using. Also shield slams are always usable. Save and craft her you will never regret it. You can try replacing her with emperor.
I hope those answers help if I missed something I would answer any time.
replacement for nexus champ saarad?
loathe or harrison jones
ty man and for geddon?
Why do you run acolyte over slam? Vs agro it's too slow, vs control it can fatigue too quick
I like it because it challenges the board and it eats removals. I can't always draw with slam and often loose because of that.
having trouble playing this deck i suck
Have you played CW before ? It's difficult to learn but once you get the better of it you will see you can win vs anything :)
Hey ! Do you think Emperor Thaurissan or Loatheb could be good instead of Geddon ? Could you tell me why if you are not agree ?
I don't have it actually
Hey mate, better use Chillmaw. If you don't have him try running any of those I am sure it will work in some cases. : )
Ty mate
Hi, i haven´t second brawl and Baron.... i use Gorehowl and second maiden.. its ok ?
Hi, yes I think that can do. : ) Hope you have success with it !
hi
have no geddon and trueheart biblletrump
Hi, try using another Shieldmaiden and Chillmaw or Gorehowl in stead. It should work almost as good.
maybe 3rd brawl?)
I disagree with "almost as good" justicar is irreplaceable.
Hi, I faced a lot of priests and they steal it with shrink plus cabal shadow priest. Also 9/10 times you get just one card out of her because she is instantly removed. Also you have a lot of big threats with 7 attack and Nefi usually lives. He gives you 2 cards, always. Also RNG but a lot of times you win. Furthermore if they steal it from you your highest chance of dealing with her is Execute. However you not always have it and sometimes she lives at least 2 turns for the opponent. Where as you can remove Nefi in all kinds of ways. I find him better to climb with also he gives you the opportunity to be more aggro.
Great deck. I've had some experience playing Control Warrior and felt like getting back into it. Only card I don't have is barron geddon so I've been using Gore Howl like that other guy, I plan to craft it soon though, I just made Justicar a few weeks ago so i don't have the dust yet. . As you said, I've been able to beat every deck ive come across EXCEPT DRUID. Unfortunately not only have they given me trouble (I've lost every single match except 1 against hem. But they are ALL OVER THE PLACE. Like I would have ranked pretty fast by now but just about every third game is a ramp druid for me. I feel like we need to figure out something. Since we are so passive, they get to be passive as well and stack up their combo cards.
hile we clear their mini threats with weapons and attempt to stack our armor but it's usually not enough armor. I feel like the only way we can win is by perfect brawls because we can't get rid of their shades of naxx except by lucky brawls. And thats all they need is a 6/6 nax to up their combo damage by 9.
Hi mate, thank you for the great review. Druids are indeed tough and have always been for CWs. If you just get fiery to kill their darnasus aspirant early one this crushes their tempo. A lot of times you need to mindgame them and play cards to bluff. I've found that playing justicar on turn 6 decides the match in my favour if I have it. Also to be honest in this match Ysera is a lot better than Nefarian. All you have to think is playing around combo and sometimes going aggro and gambling that they don't always have it. Furthermore play your Death's Bite to attack first and save the second hit to clear Ancient of Lore. A lot of times they'd play a minion so you could use your weapon on it in order to play another minion. Key to this match is thinking what they would do so you counter it. This will dramatically increase your winning. Furthermore the beginning of every season is very hard so 66% win rate is pretty damn good : )
